- Charlotte and Sidney clash again, only for Charlotte to be left confused by a chance encounter. Tensions surround Miss Lambe's arrival in Sanditon.
- Aiming to seal a match for her nephew Edward, Lady Denham hosts a pineapple party for the West Indian heiress, Miss Lambe. Edward's beautiful relatives Esther and Clara complicate matters, while Charlotte and Sydney have an awkward confrontation.
- Sidney grants his brother a few more days for his socialite mates to attend the festivities to launch the project, insists his ward Lambe must accept prestigious invitations 'as her father had wanted' and stops Charlotte's apologies, pointing out her opinions simply don't matter. Lady Denham invites everyone for a 'lunch party' in honor of Antillian heiress Lambe, but starring a specially grown pineapple. Cousin Edward fails to seduce the impertinent guest of honor, who finds partial allies around the table, but mostly Charlotte, taking offense at Denham's blunt remarks, so the atmosphere turns as rotten as the star fruit proves when Arthur cuts it without permission. Charlotte impresses Tom and his foreman with architectural insight and is embarrassed to see Sidney return from sea bathing, starkers, but proves the only support for Lambe, who cries sulking at the beach after a stagecoach duly refused to take her aboard back to London with cash.—KGF Vissers
