Female face off and bonding
lightheartedbeing2 October 2019
I quite liked the climax of the storyline between Clara and Esther, both of the women showing a bit of compassion, understanding and vulnerability. It shows a bit more of what Austen loved to do, depict the difficulties women in particular of her time faced. She had her characters and plots run up against the social morés. class, and limitations bringing it all into question. If the show is to really follow her abilities and adept capacity to create great characters and interesting dilemmas for them, this episode is showing a bit of moving more in that direction. Meanwhile, we meet Miss Lambe's mystery suitor and Charlotte and Sydney have another confrontation. The picnic scene is in a beautiful flowery meadow, fun on the river, a chance to hear about slavery, too. Makes me want to read what Austen actually wrote.

Kept us waiting

This was probably the weakest of all the episodes in the first series. Even after a few re-watches holds true. Best part by far,: the last 15 minutes.

45 minutes of Charlotte and Georgiana was ok, but not riveting, nor must see. Otis, boyfriend of Georgiana shows up, and no surprise they take advantage of Charlotte's naivete. Overall Charlotte without Sidney Parker interaction, will not do. It was a very slow 45 minutes.

But towards the end they have a scene ...💥 The music matched perfectly to the intensity of the moment. Hurt feelings, angst underpinning a fear that the tenderness and comfort just recently found might be lost.

Never offer pickled tongue to a kissing couple
CostanzaPiccolomini27 January 2020
A complicated sibling relationship threatens to thwart Lord Babington, a suitor who is madly in love with Esther, the sister of the sibling couple. Edward, the brother, as an impoverished baronet, had just as many constraints on choosing a marriage partner as did most women of the era. Hence we observe the deepening of the struggles among 3 desperate potential heirs, all dependent on their rich aunt. Exterior shots of the stagnant, leaf-strewn pond on the Denham siblings' property seems to speak of the stagnant nature of their relationship, especially with the contrast of the wild cliffs and the sea so close. A lovely clandestine meeting between Miss Lambe & her Otis, facilitated unwittingly by Charlotte leads to a rip-roaring shouting match between her and Sidney, only intensifying the sparks that fly whenever they manage to get in proximity of one another!

Love Miss Lambe

I love how we get a more in depth view of Miss Lambe and Otis! And we get some of the tension between Charlotte and Sidney, so this episode is a win!

Romance from a bygone era!
audrey-u19 June 2020
The Regency period with its charm and elegance, from a bygone era. Sanditon draws us into its development as a seaside town for the well-to-do! We meet The Parker brothers Tom (the developer of the seaside town), Sidney our protagonist (cold and mysterious) and Arthur (sickly but likeable) and Charlotte visiting for the season. Through Charlotte's eyes we experience her introduction into this society with it's high hopes, opportunities and disappointments. Love found and lost, family loyalties challenged and sacrifices made. Truly a lovely Jane Austen story woven together with Andrew Davies imagining what the end could hold.

Warning: Spoilers
Miss Lambe's love interest is introduced in the most perfect picnic spot I have ever seen, causing yet more tention between Charlotte and Sidney, just when they were finally getting along. Esther and Clara's characters have some interesting moments. Charlotte can't understand why Sidney doesn't like Otis.

The depth of character development is wonderful. You love to hate Edward and strangely feel so sad for the troubled Esther. Sanditon continues to deliver.

Enjoyed this episode it's really interesting to see the dynamic of the relationship between Esther and Edward in the end she's just a lonely girl longing for love and attention which means she can't see Edward is controlling her.

Really well written
viriovari7 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I really liked Otis. Mrs Griffiths and Sidney impressions by Charlotte was way too hilarious, I looooved it. This episode was really well written. It was unique to see Esther's vulnerability. Also Clara opened up before Esther. Two unscrupulous enemies but they have a lot in common. I like the dinamyc of the realitationships, Clara and Esther, Clara and Edward, Sidney and Tom, Charlotte and Sidney, Charlotte and Young Stringer, love between Georgiana and Otis is beautiful and true. (May I missed some relations)
