As Hanna watches the 2004 version of "Dawn of the Dead," it has a visceral impact, because it feels closer to her real life than fiction.
"Hanna" writer-producer David Farr grew up in a hometown much like Sophie's; a sort of "suburban nowhere," and the writer for the episode, Ingeborg Topsoe, comes from a small town in Denmark. They had the shared experience of growing up watching films, especially horror movies and thrillers, so they worked it into the story. Director Amy Neil also understood that small town world, having grown up in Galloway, South West Scotland.
Cinematographer Kate Reid previously worked with director Amy Neil on the 2017 series "Trust Me."
