Just look at his face
Prismark104 August 2018
Barry Davies was for a generation the voice of sport on BBC television. This program was a tribute to his talents, a look at his life, his family and the variety of sports he has covered.

Football, athletics, ice skating, tennis, hockey, rowing were just some of the events he covered. Barry knew the difference between a triple lutz and a triple salchow even if the audience at home did not.

In football he had a friendly rivalry with John Motson. I am sure there was a bit of needle with Motson taking the lion's share of the big finals such as the FA Cup and World Cup finals. In the 90s Barry went public in the press that he had not yet commented on the FA cup final.

Barry did commentate in the 1994 World Cup final which finished goalless before being decided on penalties. He also went on to commentate on several FA Cup finals as well. However one final that did not go as planned and involved him turning into a news reporter was the 1985 European Cup final at Heysel where crowd trouble caused the death of 39 Juventus supporters. You can sense he still feels uncomfortable talking about it.

The program was broadcast as Barry was about to hang up his microphone with his final commentary at Wimbledon. An end of an era.

Barry Davies a consummate professional.
