Right story. Right ending. Wrong approach & poor execution.
It's an issue which typifies Season 2 as a whole. The narrative continues in a way which should - in theory - feel satisfying (building upon the pre-existing foundations which were already established before) but due to a systematic collection of individual failures, it doesn't - & as a result, we're left with this.
From the writing to the directing to the cinematography to the casting, none of it works like it previously did in S1; where the predecessors both behind & in front of the camera succeeded, those involved in S2 frustratingly do not.
Once the creatives who masterfully crafted the world & the universe this show inhabits unfortunately chose to depart, it's clear nobody of the same standard or calibre were found to replace them. Hence, the noticeable drop in quality.
The convoluted plot, the stripped back & over simplified visuals, the blatantly noticeable smaller budget, the tonal inconsistencies & the uninspired casting choices - Altered Carbon doesn't know what it wants to be anymore & it's rather ironic for a show such as this to be suffering from a self-destructive identity crisis.
Overall, not good but neither is it irredeemable.
