Underwhelming.
W011y4m529 February 2020
Right story. Right ending. Wrong approach & poor execution.

It's an issue which typifies Season 2 as a whole. The narrative continues in a way which should - in theory - feel satisfying (building upon the pre-existing foundations which were already established before) but due to a systematic collection of individual failures, it doesn't - & as a result, we're left with this.

From the writing to the directing to the cinematography to the casting, none of it works like it previously did in S1; where the predecessors both behind & in front of the camera succeeded, those involved in S2 frustratingly do not.

Once the creatives who masterfully crafted the world & the universe this show inhabits unfortunately chose to depart, it's clear nobody of the same standard or calibre were found to replace them. Hence, the noticeable drop in quality.

The convoluted plot, the stripped back & over simplified visuals, the blatantly noticeable smaller budget, the tonal inconsistencies & the uninspired casting choices - Altered Carbon doesn't know what it wants to be anymore & it's rather ironic for a show such as this to be suffering from a self-destructive identity crisis.

Overall, not good but neither is it irredeemable.

Went from great to ok
The first season explored more on the subjects of immortality, humanity and morality. It was groundbreaking

The second season is just like any other scifi-action. Good enough to watch, but not enough make you think, or get angry

Not great and not awful

Warning: Spoilers
My main gripe with this series is the lack of the noir element and Anthony mackie's lackluster performance. I had high hope to see how well mackie could pull of the same mood and personality that kinnamon did in season one but he just doesn't compare. To sacrifice the kovacs at the end of the episode wasn't a twist it was an ending you could see happening a mile off and the same with the return of poe suddenly having kovacs dhf downloaded ready to be restacked. It was all just too predictable here's hoping season 3 returns the moody wonder that season 1 showed us

I don't get it
splosh328 February 2020
I guess people loved season 1 for the hard R swearing and nudity. Sure season 1 was better, but this season wasn't bad by any means, it was still entertaining with interesting science fiction. Really don't understand the hate

Enjoyable and exciting

I enjoyed season 2 as much as I enjoyed season 1. Anthony was terrific and Renee never disappoints. If you understand what you're seeing, season 2 will not disappoint. Bring on season 3!

Redemption
JamesHunt1810 October 2020
Season 2 doesn't quite match the quality of season 1, in my opinion, however it certainly isn't poor as many seem to believe. It does seem to cruise with less memorability than the season prior but it ends much better, on the other hand this does mean this episode had a lot to do. The episode succeeds in great acting moments, a beautiful score throughout, incredibly choreographed fight sequences and some real closure in character arcs focused on this season. A special shout out to Chris Conner's Poe who was the real MVP here.

Even though a season 3 is not happening, and that's a real shame because I love the world that's created here, I can rest easy knowing stories have, for the most part, been resolved and no glaring cliffhanger is presented to frustrate fans forever.

It is Awesome
ak-019041 March 2020
Well I was thinking that Anthony Mackie was not be good in Takeshi Kovachs role but as it proceed it was heartwarming and amazing. And the last episode was one of the finest episode of history of entertainment because it has emotions, it has action, it has suspense, and finally it was just the BEST.

Good ending to a season of highs and lows

Warning: Spoilers
I think we can all agree that season 1 was better but this Season is not as Bad as the Reviews make it out to be. The storyline with the Revenge of the Elder made sense, I mean who would not want revenge in that Situation and the self sacrifice of Kovac was not a bad conclusion to the character development over the season.

A Complete Disappointment This Season
eberkerbatur12 April 2020
The series is so bad for the first season, I never thought I wouldn't like this series but I don't like it anymore and I don't want to watch another season.

I always get a little cold when the lead characters of the series change. This time I got colder because our main character Takeshi Kovacs did not change, only the body he used changed. Joel Kinnaman portrayed his first body and since we watched it first, we learned about the main character, at least about his character and behavior but now his body has changed, he is now replaced by Anthony Mackie but the character's behavior has changed and has become ridiculous.

I didn't like the main subject at all and the little things that revolve around it overall a complete disappointment this season would make it more logical for the show to end in this way because I don't think they can get another season out.

Bring on season 3!

Not sure what the hate is all about for this season. It was certainly different from season 1 but still extremely enjoyable. And Anthony Mackie played a great Kovachs.

Soap opera
Zubacz1 September 2020
The whole episode was just senseless monologues, crying and teary "confessions". None of the characters feel even slightly similar to their versions from season 1 or even themselves from the beginning of season 2.

No wonder they cancelled this show.

I Cheered!
sajones-378315 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I love this series! Anthony Mackie was great. All the other characters were just as awesome. The only one who didn't fit was Konrad. His face just took my back to the CW Arrowverse every time. But oh well. He was a pretty minor character in terms of acting. At the end I thought, "Welp, our Kovatch died. I'm done." Figured Netflix just wanted out of the series and hit the easy button. And then he lived! I was in my seat cheering! Love this show, love these characters, and will be back day one for more every single time. Only things I would change? Bring back the gritty feel of what this show was in Season 1. Its still great without a doubt, but people loved the dark, "Look what happens when people live to long," concept. Bring that back, even just in small doses. And show us some more Elders!

Great end to the season
djarra10 March 2020
Season 2 had a tough job. I think it pulled it off. The second book is the weakest of the three, and mostly they merged into the third book as well. The tone was of course different, as it had to be. But it worked in it's own way. You get the sense of small colony on the outer edge, and it contrasted to Season 1's Bay City. Hopefully a third season will be able to tie up the loose ends.

Great springboard for a third season
thespinynorman28 April 2020
I started season 2 with low expectations as I've seen all the bad reviews here. Thankfully I've seen things differently: I was thoroughly entertained throughout the whole season. Each episode got more and more exciting as the stakes grew and more of the mystery became clear. All the characters were compelling, especially Poe had great and at some points heart wrenching character development. Really hope for a third season to see more of the show's world(s).

Season 2 Not Good
captain_astronaut9 March 2020
Wow, did Netflix fire all the creatives from season 1? They didn't even bother reading the second book. They filled this full of extra characters with backstories no one cares about. Everyone gets multiple soliloquies and they all get crying scenes. What a waste of a budget.

Terrific ending all ties together
Amadio19 April 2020
Having loved the book and season one, I was underwhelmed by the start to season 2. And yet, and yet... By the time I came to the end of season 2, I was utterly captivated and loved how all the disparate elements tied together to explain so much that had remained only alluded to and hinted at. While nothing like the book, season 2 created a tense and intriguing drama, despite the doorstop acting by Anthony Mackie. (How he got the role, or why the director allowed such wooden behaviour is a mystery.) Pretty much sterling performances by all the others involved. If they do season 3, I am eagerly awaiting it.

The season finale was great. People who think Season 2 was weak should turn in their Sci-Fi cards.

Just as much as I love the season 1, I love the season 2. To everybody hating though, I dont understand ya'll at all. Season is every bit of everything and properly executed. I am definitely watching it again. God! I love this show. My 2 years wait really does worth it.

To every newbie to this show, please dont mind the hate comments. I recommend this show for anybody and everybody, lol.

If i wanted to watch soap opera, i would.
spiritual_analysis1 May 2020
The horrible melodramatic dialogue is just insufferable, music is typical pumping and throbbing to excite simpletons, the 'acting' is just standing there straight faced mouthing the awful lines, the story is boring. What a disappointing second season to an interesting start to the series. If this is what you come up with, don't bother making season 3.

I loved season one and I never write reviews.

This is awful. Such lame story and poor production, especially considering season one.

What a bad ending to a great character
snowboarding_babando29 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I loved season 1, it was a great show with awesome characters and Joel Kineman was great. This season didn't capture the same wonder and fun of season 1, and to have the Kovacs that we came to know sacrifice himself at the end is such a poor way to go, and totally wrong choice for the character we grew to love.
