I really thought the series would end with this episode but I was wrong, it was more of a setup for a presumably action packed final season. I really enjoyed most of this season even though the season 2 finale made me think a third round is kind of forced and unnecessary. The writers did a great job putting together a coherent logical story while doing justice to the small plot holes from the previous season. I have one big complaint though: the last 10 minutes was very rushed and Gloria suddenly joining the revolution out of nowhere and keeping her secret felt pretty off, but this is something they can easily work out next season. Overall, this season exceeded my expectations

This season has some interesting plot twists, and I found myself switching which characters I was rooting for every couple of episodes. And, like all in the Shell, I was ultimately tricked by the offshore, who were behind everything the whole time (DUH. How did I not see that coming?).

That said, the season as a whole felt like a filler. Yeah, it was interesting, but it didn't do anything to progress the story of this world. Season 1 set up the Hunger Games-like world where the cast are trying to join the offshore. Season 2 shows the background of how the offshore was created in the first place and about how the Cause can topple the Offshore. Season 3 showed... the Offshore are the bad guys? We already knew that. What's new?

They set up well for a 4th season that hopefully is the last at least. If the writers know it's the last season, they have the opportunity of an epic last season of beating down the bad guys, having good ultimately prevail, and we wouldn't need any fake cliff hanger to extend the series any longer than it needs to be. Honestly the 3rd season should have been what they set the 4th season up to be, but it was still good. I'll be extremely disappointed if the show isn't renewed for season 4 though and this is the ending of the series.
