Is both the choice of story...as well as the execution...which yes...applies to everything. But in this show in particular. The show is barely watchable if it's not a good topic (IMO) or if the execution of it isn't good. Essentially, if there's dancing or some sort of sketch...nope.
When it's a good topic and well executed...GREAT SHOW!
When not....eh. Sam Bee is funny in the right situations and circumstances. She isn't able to take something mediocre and strictly on her presentation of it, make it work. It's ok...it is just something that after watching newer and older episodes...that has become apparent. It took me a while to warm up to her on the Daily Show, but once she did, she became one that I mostly looked forward to. So that's why I was happy she started a show here. I just with it was better. I guess this show isn't designed for me though. A lot of the stuff isn't going to appeal to me. So...I take that into consideration. I'm not her target audience. We will align some percentage of the time...but a lot of time, not gonna be right for me. Anyway...this was a pleasant surprise episode. And now that I think about it...the daily show was a lot like this. The last few years of the DS, there were some episodes that were instantly forgettable. So...I like it for when it scores...but know that it isn't always gonna be a homerun. Sometimes...gonna strike out looking.
