When Rue is giving her intimidation speech, she not only cites names from The Wire (2002) but also adds a line from Pulp Fiction (1994). She recites a line from 'Marcellus Wallace', when he said he was gonna call some people "to go to work on you with a pair of pliers and a blow torch."
Jules' costume is inspired by Claire Danes look in The 1996 movie Romeo + Juliet (1996), as is the under water kiss.
All of the people from rehab Rue says she will send to the Roy/Troy twin's house are people from "The Wire (2002)".
As with many of the episodes in this season, the episode title refers to a rap song - in this case; 'The Next Episode' by Dr. Dre featuring Kurupt, Nate Dogg, and Snoop Dogg.
When Nate and Maddy walk into the party in the final scene, Maddy is dressed like Jodie Foster in Taxi Driver (1976). This character has a number of parallels to Alabama Worley from True Romance (1993) (also referenced in this episode) as both are prostitutes that the main character tries to rescue by killing her pimp and his entourage in a bloody shootout. (Quentin Tarantino, who scripted True Romance (1993), cites Taxi Driver (1976) as one of his favourite movies, Sydney Sweeney, also appears in Quentin Tarantino film, "Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood (2019)")
