Gets better
johnfpfallon21 November 2019
The juxtaposition of good and bad; Japanese and English; male and female; are all a joy to behold in a series where one does care about the characters and all their human flaws. Exceedingly well written; encapsulating both understated Japanese and overpowering English culture. A genuine treasure.

Episode 1.5

Donna should had watched Pulp Fiction. She would have then known, never leave your gun behind.

The aftermath of the shootings both in London and Tokyo is a mess. When Vickers tells Donna that his dad is a Pittsburgh gangster and events will get messier as his dad will want answers to tough questions. Donna takes drastic action.

It is Taki who discovers her uncle Yuto lying seriously injured on the street. It left to Kenzo to heal his wounds. However their father has died back in Tokyo.

Yuto tells Kenzo what the Yakuza will do to him if Kenzo gives him up to the gangsters.

There are reflective moments in this episode. The sadness of bereavement. Yuto revealing to Kenzo about the child he had and the double dealings regarding the Yakuza gang war. Even Taki has a revelation regarding her true feelings.

It is interesting seeing Kenzo's facial expressions. He knows he is in big trouble and yet at the same time can't quite grasp the enormity of it. His police boss back in Tokyo knows Kenzo is protecting his brother.

Somewhat calmer, very good.

The almost calm after the storm, we have the fallout of the gun clash, and a somewhat more sedate episode, which focuses more on the character play.

From the smallest of chances, it's Taki who discovers her uncle, battered and injured, Kenzo is delighted to see his brother is alive, but still incredibly angry with him, their relationship is changing the dynamic of the story.

And more gangsters are on the way from America, to join the British, Japanese and Albanians.

Is Kenzo falling for Sarah? And what exactly did Rodney do to Tiff.

So good, 8/10.
