First one more powerful but remake not as bad as originally thought
daisyrose-5871724 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
IMO the first one (1996 version) was superior to this newer version. The impact more powerful especially during the courtroom scene when the Judge laid into the people for knowing things, for seeing things and yet not saying anything and it was done in a compelling way. The courtroom scene in the newer version lacked severely in comparison to the original version IMO.

With the newer version I liked how the flashbacks were done and it was nice to see Shannen Doherty again. The actress who played the friend did well too. The updates to technology were handled well and accurate in how teens interact with them. The actor who played the boyfriend did pretty well but sometimes it seemed cheesy. Some may not agree but I preferred the way Fred Savage played the boyfriend.

Overall I did think the newer version did well enough, better than I expected when I first saw that a remake was happening though I felt it was more like the same old same old Lifetime-style movies rather than set apart from the movies Lifetime pumps out (and maybe that's just an issue with time difference), and so I rated it a 7 but the 1996 version I rated it a 9 (would really say it's a 9.5 though).

Different things about this one and the original
mwcanadian29 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Ok, while the original one was good, a re-make isn't a bad thing to do in this kind of movie. The issue difference (and why I like the original better) is because of the boyfriend. The boyfriend in the Original (played by Fred Savage) was better since he hid his personality better. The boyfriend here clearly has a temper and it was easy to see. I liked how both main characters did playing the abused girl, but the boyfriend had wasnt as good here. When the girl went missing, I think the whole school should've suggested the boyfriend.

Good movie but I love the original
kparkslpn14 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This is a very good movie but it does miss some of the stuff from the original that I feel would be beneficial to showing how mean and terrifying Rob was to her. I think the content is critical though to show young people that dating violence is a real threat and it is not love. I have hope that this movie will save someone's life.

Heavy movie
ivegonemod9 October 2018
I have watched the original version of this movie numerous times, but I would never watch this version again. Newer TV movies aren't re-watchable like the ones from the old days, but besides that, I feel this particular version was much more emotional and heavy, too much so for me.

I thought the casting of all the main players was good. I'm not understanding this theory that Fred Savage and the lastest guy to play the role were too nice looking, too innocent looking.

What does an abuser look like? Is he supposed to look rough and tough? Guys who look like nice guys can't beat the crap out of someone and make them feel horrible? Thinking like that is stupid, and obviously it isn't true.

I feel some people don't realize this movie and the original are based on a true crime, so they think it is OK to make insensitive statements.

Even with a mother who obviously cares and is engaged in her daughter's activities teenagers have a tendency to keep secrets from their parents...stop keeping secrets!!!
Ed-Shullivan9 November 2020
Parent and child relationships through those difficult teenage years (and as they blossom through to adulthood) can be an awkward time and confrontational period for both parents and their children and sometimes one or both parties choose not to ask or answer the obvious and/or difficult question(s) about the child(s) relationship with their first boyfriend/girlfriend. In this case a young teenage girl named Sarah Collins (Matreya Scarrwener) develops a crush on an aggressive boy named Rob Tennison (Callan Potter) and when the opportunity to be away from their parents at a cottage is accepted both teenagers agree to have sex for the first time.

The story of the abusive relationship of the boyfriend/girlfriend who then wants to control his girlfriend's/boyfriend's every move happens time and time again. I am sure most of us can recall in our past lives a similar physical/mental abuse case that either ourselves, a family member, and/or a close friend experienced with their significant other. I myself recall back in the 1980's when a friend of mine who had a 20 something aged son who broke up with his girlfriend only to find that her son was responsible for spying on his ex-girlfriend as she slept with a new boyfriend and when the new boyfriend departed after his overnight fling, my friend's son went into his ex-girlfriend's house, murdered her out of rage and jealousy and stuffed her body into her parents freezer in the basement. He served a deserved life term in prison as a result of this enormous error in judgement . This young man's parents were kind and caring parents, and the son was polite but people do strange things and some of us react in a manner most of us would never think to do.

In the case of Rob Tennison who first physically abused his girlfriend Sarah and then later culminating by cowardly murdering his young teenage girlfriend who he felt he was losing "control over" allowed for early enough warning signs in their young relationship that should have, or could have been caught, by her friends and/or her own mother. I guess the message this film tries to resonate is "If you see something, SAY something"

More importantly there are thousands if not millions of wives/husbands who have stayed in a long term physical and/or emotional abusive relationship that they just cannot seem to get out of. Don't be another statistic in another abusive relationship that may lead to murder or even permanent damage. If you, your friend and/or a family member are involved (or know someone else who is involved) in a mental or physical abusive relationship then contact the appropriate authorities and STOP any further abuse before it is too late.

The acting in this made for TV film is very well done, and the story evolves as unfortunately expected. I hope many people take the time to watch this film and I would go as far as to suggest it may make for a good school curriculum in students preparing written papers that can be evaluated and graded by professionals to assist in determining those early signs of abuse before it is too late for both potential victims as well as their perpetrators who could get the early professional help that they so desperately need.

I give this educational and eye opening film a deserved 7 out of 10 IMDB rating.

It was okay
TracyGiirl23 September 2018
Believable because sadly this happens every day. The one part that really bugged me though was Mira Sorvino as the judge. She was almost in tears and obviously showing her bias. A judge is not supposed to be emotional on the stand in any way so that was fail and very bad acting.

Better the 1st time around
lewisjm7717 September 2018
I loved the first version of this movie but sometimes things are better off left alone. The only believable actor was Nicki, she really was good. The scenes jumped so much around it was awful. No ones acting was believable when they found there daughter & friend in the lake. Even the background music was annoying. If I could of rated this lower than a 1 I sure would of.

Epic Teen Tragedy
imasna21 December 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is based on a true story. The cutbacks to the story during the trial might confuse some viewers, but you have to see it from the beginning. This story hits home hard for some career moms today, however, it highlights that teens should not keep silent concerning peer abuse. There ARE teen abusers, male and female. I have seen BOTH with my own children. My daughter got punched ONCE that I saw, the day of her first prom that night. I happened to look backward as I shut the front door and saw him grab her by the hair as she had leaned in the passenger side window. He held her by her hair with his right hand as he double punched her TWICE with his left hand, and yes, the boy was a southpaw. I ran to the car, looked at my daughter, told her to get some ice, jerked his back door open, got in, told him to drive to his house. I was going to speak to his parents to decide the rest of his life. Trust me, there were no more proms in his future. This movie is so much more to the point. The girl only dated this guy less than 6 months and lost her life! She tried on numerous occassions to break it off with him. He then would proceed to tell her how ugly she was, belittle her, undermine her self confidence, and you can not tell me that the teachers, students in the halls, and others had NOT CAUGHT his manipulations, language, and obvious psychopathic tendencies. I also kept wondering what WAS the purpose of the blond snobby, standoffish, classmate who stood by with very obvious envy, jealousy, and smiling throughout the whole movie. Girls like that contribute greatly to the under current of "disenfranchised youth". To her STATUS, is above everything. The RIGHT, clothes, right BOYFRIEND, right CAR, right EVERYTHING. Just so look as IT looks right and is the IN THING, IT has to be RIGHT. So WHAT IF you have to endure some petty humiliation? At least you have the right clothes, makeup, car, parents, and BOYFRIEND on your arm. You can do and say anything you want or need as long as you at least PRESENT yourself and anyone or anything as the proper person is on your arm. Now, on to the complacent adults. In what universe do parents EVER just let their teenaged children go and do what and when without the who, what, when and HOW. THER moral compass what so ever.

Do not even get me started on the drones running the school, who notice , NOTHING!! Parents, school officials, absolutely NO ONE in a position noticed not one thing off.

If only we had more of these movies to bring awareness to DV with teens
coxpnw17 September 2018
I actually thought this movie was done very well. I have missed seeing Shannen on the screen during her battle with cancer. Glad to see her back. I am not sure why anyone would rate this movie low. It is a Lifetime TV movie all of them are pretty good, but not meant to be a big screen production. If you watch TV movies you would already know this. Anyway, I think that this was a great example of a DV teen relationship. They don't want anyone to know, the guy makes them feel amazing one minute and the next abuses them. I wish there were more of these to bring awareness. You hear about other issues but never DV teen relationships.

Excellent Necessary Remake
Kristamw14 April 2019
When I saw the 1996 version with Fred Savage and Candace Cameron, I remember being invested in it all the way through. I remember feeling every emotion that Stacy (Cameron) felt, even though I hadn't experienced what she did.

This remake is just as outstanding as its predecessor with Matreya Scarrwener playing the main character, now named Sarah, and Callan Potter as Rob, her devoted boyfriend. When I say devoted, I mean devoted to controlling her and abusing her every step of their relationship.

This is a true story about a 16-year-old teen who murdered his 14-year-old girlfriend. A boy who felt justified in inflicting physical, emotional, and mental abuses at Sarah, then who showed no remorse, just cold empty soulless eyes as he was sentenced to a life sentence in 1992 for first-degree murder.

A story of a boy who moved fast onto his victim, made her, yes, made her be with him, stay with him, no matter what he did to her, who refused to let her have any friends, who blamed her for his own insane jealousy and fits of anger. Scarrwener honors Amy's (whom Sarah is based on) memory. The entire movie, she is happy, bright, enjoying life, and when Rob hurts her, she cowers, feels guilty, loses her vivacity all the while trying to please him. Watching her endure the torments of her abuser tore at my heart. She had a wonderful support system, primarily her best friend and mother, but she felt obligated to stand by Rob. And when she left him, he still found a way to trick her just once more so that he could kill her.

Shannon Doherty plays Sarah's mother with grace, a loving mother who can't see the darkness her daughter experiences because Sarah is too ashamed to let her know. She is so good at excusing Rob's behavior, at hiding her own pain, at doing whatever it takes to appease him that it just grips your very soul.

Young adults need to see this film, and the original. There are so many important lessons here for young teens, for parents, for friends of the abused and the abuser.

Why remake this one?

The original from the 90's was a good film and didn't need to have a remake.

About the judge's closing statement in this remake
wilsonandrewc23 January 2019
The closing statement that the judge in this remake made was a lot similar to the closing statement the judge in the original version made.

"How many of you have been hit? Who among you slaps your girlfriend? Well, this is against the law; it's wrong... and you watched it happen to Sarah and you did nothing. You have a responsibility to the people you care about. If you see them hurting or see them in trouble, you step in and do something about it. Tell someone so that this does not happen again."

Silence has claimed the lives of many. While one may understandably feel as though they have no right to intervene, abuse and sexual assault cases can prove to have tragic consequences. Help the ones you love. Tell someone, and urge them to do the same.

The acting was lacking.
jaleasabreanna22 September 2020
I went into this movie with high hopes. I really liked the original version with Candace Cameron & Fred Savage so I thought this one may live up to its predecessor. I was wrong. Older lifetime movies are always better in my opinion. The low score is because the acting wasn't believable, aside from Nikki. It came off really cheesy. Especially Rob & Sarah's characters. However, I do believe this is a movie all teens, boys & girls alike, should watch. Whether it be this version or the '96 version. Domestic violence is real & it happens more than we realize. The low score is just for bad acting, not the story itself .

Bad lesson, good insight (raised awareness)!
NijazBaBs7 May 2019
This is typical psycho obsession with love movie. Like many other lifetime movies, but with worse ending. There is lack of story or details. But there are realistic and natural parts. What can we observe in this movie is that where there is obsession+rejection, there are consequences, like in any other areas of life, not just love. While we can't learn any specific lesson from this movie, because some people will just not give up or are unpredictable. We at least can learn that we are half responsible for what happens to us from any criminal or psychopath. Best thing we could do is to as early as possible take maximum distance, security, precaution. Once we get close it is too late. But even that is just enough to protect ourselves only, and not other possible victims. This raises awareness of obsessions, and consequences of rejection. We should be more aware of any obsessions, psychos, wounds, crimes, and weaknesses.

Powerful and Informative for all teens, parents and school staff
athenadanae30 April 2019
This movie had some very emotional and powerful scenes. The acting was great and the movie was a great example of what domestic violence looks like in a teen relationship. I hope teenagers watch this and consider telling someone if they or one of their friends is involved in a situation like this. I hope it bring courage to many to be able to speak up. It can save lives and brings awareness to all involved.

Pushing the button
c88ff23717 September 2018
I just commented yesterday on the movie The Bad Seed. This was the first movie that swore, with the (s) word. Twice. Now, after watching No One Would Tell, they said the (s) word in that movie. Unbelievable. I realize, if no one says anything, then we will see this constantly. You then cannot watch a mystery without listening to swearing or seeing a ton of sexual scenes, although they are trying to do this more also. People will just stop watching. I hope. The movies are not that great, so it would not be difficult. So anything made in 2018 won't be watched. This might sound prudish, but where do we draw the line of tastelessness? The only way to stop it, is to stop watching. This is nothing more than being crude, at our expense.

Intense and still relevant
phd_travel19 September 2018
Good update to the domestic violence for teens. I remember the older movie. Fred Savage was wrong in the first one too angelic looking.

The acting is good. The violence is quite spontaneous looking well acted and scary.

I haven't seen a serious issue Lifetime movie for a while and this is a welcome departure from the psycho thriller theme.

Nice to see Shannen so healthy and pretty again after her illness.

What was wrong with the original?!
therealmorningstarkeke1 September 2021
I saw nothing wrong with the original. Candace Cameron and Fred Savage were believable on screen as was the movie. This version plods along with a few oddly placed "blips" which are, (as my teens would say), cringey to watch.

As for the context, physical and mental abuse and the lengths that the abusers will go to ensure the victims suffering is beyond my.... I don't think about it because I can't. Because I get this grandiose prayer to help the world, (no matter how I think I could. Or to at least try to which is I know silly to some but I wish there wasn't news stories or movies like this one.) But there is and I can at least be a voice for those who no longer have one, I can try my hardest to write\talk about all I am able to and to hopefully let others know that it's not helpful to look the other way. As the title suggests. *Sorry about the rambling but it's a huge issue that all need to acknowledge it as such. Even through movies like this one.*

Bad movie
brabendeaw3 March 2019
I did not like the remake of No one would tell. I thought the first one was more believe able. It is such a shame they did not have the girl abuse the guy, or have two women or two gay men abuse one another. Maybe even have a transgender character get abused or someone with disability get abused. Than again this is only my opinion.

Sad and tragic but well done
worldclasscoach18 September 2018
As a man I found this movie so terribly sad, but even sadder is that it's based on a true story. We have to stop domestic violence there's no place for it in our society. It was so well produced and totally believable. I'll always remember this movie, most I watch then kind of forget but not this.

An American Tragedy
lavatch28 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
On the surface, "No One Would Tell" would appear to be a film about an abusive male, Rob Tennison. But the filmmakers' relentless focus is not on Rob's story, but on the phenomenon of the abused woman syndrome. The naive Sarah Joy Collins and her equally gullible mother Laura are placed under the microscope to try to understand why young Sarah Joy would not have filed charges against Rob at school or with the police and why she would not "tell" anyone other than her best friend about the abuse.

Even when Sarah Joy first started dating Rob, his temper flared in the school library and he pushed Sarah Joy. That was followed by an ugly incident when Rob threw her to the ground at his lake house. On another occasion, he fat-shamed her. In front of her schoolmates, he verbally shamed her once again. Sarah Joy visits Rob's home, and he physically attacks her. Later, Rob breaks into the Collins home and gives her a "promise ring." Sarah Joy instantly forgives him and grants him another chance.

When Rob's temper rages at the dance when Sarah Joy is talking to another young man, Rob ushers her into the parking lot and abuses her in front of her bestie, Nikki Farrow. That should have been the last straw. But, once again, Sarah Joy agrees to go for a drive with Rob, and it turns out to be her last drive.

A salient moment in the film is when, after all the abuse, Sarah Joy tells Nikki, "I still want him." In the trial, Judge Mira Sorvino tells the court that "this is a war!" and that we need "change on a cultural level." But those abstractions never get to the heart of the matter that Sarah Joy and her mother needed more agency in their lives.

This film was made in 2018, yet inexplicably, the culture of school campuses alluded to by the judge is downplayed. Abuse would be discussed in classes. There would be a widely known policy for filing complaints. Students were noticing marks and bruises on Sarah Joy, yet failed to report them. A major lapse in the film was to avoid how the "war" is being fought and progress is being made in avoiding the American tragedy depicted in the film.

At one point, Sarah Joy was about to inform Rob's wrestling coach about the abuse she suffered. The coach would have been required to report the incident and the school would have taken disciplinary action and reported Rob to the police. Instead, Sarah Joy was silent. In this utterly depressing film, she thereby becomes a mere statistic of numbers of dead battered women cited in court by Judge Sorvino.

The first one was better
AdrienneGrayceMusic17 September 2018
I liked the first version of this movie with Candace Cameron Bure much better. However, this version was good too. This isn't the first time LMN aired a movie about teenagers getting abused by their boyfriends. Its sort of the norm. But this one feels a little different from the rest. I'm not sure If I like the actress they picked for the main Character. It was great to see Shannen Doherty back on the small screen. She was great in the film. It was nothing special but still a little entertaining, to say the least.
