The Eyes of the Devil
Prismark1024 October 2021
When Blake Gaines told Michael that he had a new driver. I knew it would not end well.

Criss crossing with the Parable of the rich fool. Gaines falls out with the church that pays his legal fees in connection with his defence of Patrice Ganimana.

God is an important factor in this episode. Gaines does not respect God, the church and Ganimana are fearful of God.

It is always surprising that those committing genocide never think of how they will explain their actions to God.

Kate meets Ganimana and she is in no mood to listen to his excuses or his sorrow.

Meanwhile through the use of animation Michael finds out the real connection between Alice Munezero and President Bibi Mundanzi.

Hugo Blick uses many tricks to explain his story apart from his own effective cameo. Gaines too was an ill man. However I do consider despite the depth of this series, it lagged a little and maybe at eight parts this has been stretched out. Not enough to make me throw up yet.

Warning: Spoilers
A LOT of vomiting(!). Otherwise, great acting and even greater soundtrack. Leonard Cohen & Lou Reed!

Slow Again

Purely on technical terms, there is a great acting scene in this episode between Michaela Coel and Tyrone Huggins. I won't spoil it for you. But as far as drama goes, that's it.

This series suffers from characters that are difficult to identify with. Kate Ashby is a screwed up young woman who indulges in being as antisocial and profoundly self-righteous as she possibly can.

Someone died during this episode and there was really no tension because we all wanted to see that person to die. As a result, the death scene was performative rather than suspenseful.

This series consistently delivers the screenplay within remarkably stunning settings. However, atmospheric elements cannot compensate for a narrative which lacks the essential tension necessary to propel the story forward.

We can only hope the next episode will rise to the heights of the third one.
