This is one of my favorite episodes (OK, have watched through before), because the importance of LISTENING to the patient, ACKNOWLEDGING that something is amiss/problematic that is real is THE most-important skill of a medical provider. I say this as a provider . . . sometimes it yields the positive result due to ability to diagnose properly or to set the course of testing and treatment on the right road, and sometimes it is (additionally) a way to help the patient -- agree w/ test/treatment plan(s) or, really, just helping the patient feel better even for a moment and often-times, well-beyond the medical-personnel-patient interaction.
The patient in this episode that Dr. Hawkins treats has a VERY-scary illness; not unlike a Dx of cancer or permanent disability (e.g., paralysis, diabetes), so, Well-played and presented. Thank you Resident writers . . .
