A Great Watch
iamaditisengupta27 April 2021
Just finished watching " Unicorn " on Hotstar starring Debalina Dutta , Chiranjit Chakroborty and others directed by Tathagata Mukherjee , it was a great watch . This film is a pure indie work . The locations used in the film are beautiful . There has never been such a movie or story in Bengal before .This movie is very different from the other movies that are currently being made in Bengal . The story was unique and I loved the way , the film ended . The bgm was beautiful . The editing was done very well . In short the film is wonderful 😊!

I request everyone to watch this movie . We must support this indie movie . There are lot more indie bengali movies which are available in YouTube like Chonchu which is based on Satyajit Ray's short story . Plz watch all these movies and also watch independent films all over India .

Magic Realism! An Obscure Territory in Indian Cinema!

Tathagata Mukherjee's "Unicorn" is visually prepossessing, descriptively unparalleled, and above all; stout promoter of 'Escapism'. Targeted towards a Niche section of the audience; it illustrates a working woman's inner conflicts and a staggering secret dwelling deep in her conscience!

In the midst of habitual chores in our daily lives; somewhere underneath reside, dozens of unfulfilled longings! Aren't we all wanna break free from this vicious cycle? Those mere shackles of our weary existence? Every so often, our innermost being inaudibly cries for help. Undisclosed misery depicting an endless mental tussle betwixt what we want and what we must!

Whilst shedding some light upon the human psyche in general, It scrutinizes an independent woman's mind under severe distress due to office workload, family obligations, and on top of all that; scads of abuses & taunts she faces over and over again! Quite a metaphorical delineation, I gotta admit.

Owing to some poetic imagery, largely shot at tourist destinations; the Director managed to captivate us in every recurring frame. The comforting & restful Score adds up to this wonderful sense of serenity and self-exploration!

Even though Performances are praiseworthy. Alas! That's not the case in terms of its relatively shallower characterization! A bit more depth was needed to ably portray the entwined relations the characters share among them. Things looked rather vague to my eyes.

In conclusion, the underlying concept belongs to an obscure territory! 'Magic Realism' as it is called; is a rarity in Indian Cinema, let alone in a Bengali Feature. So kudos to Mr. Mukherjee for being inventive and for having the audacity to supervise such a complex subject matter!

Unique story with a subtle undertone massage.

Story was really nice. It had so many layers from social life to sci-fi, but more than that l liked the narrative. Visual effects were also praiseworthy. Performance wise also it was good. Charanjit Chakraborty & Debolina Dutta are very experienced artists and both of them didn't disappointed me. Tathagata Mukherjee is a great film maker he directed this film brilliantly. Only underwhelming aspect of this film is that they could have made this screenplay little longer.
