He's better than most
illinoisbrah993 October 2018
He's not the best comedian. He's not the worst. He is however one of my favorite celebrities and that's partially why I've seen all of his stand up specials. I understand why he's talking about pop culture topics, but I believe that he's capable of more intelligent stand up. Although I do enjoy how he's able to provide an intelligent take on dumb pop culture topics. I liked this better than his last Netflix special, but "Talking Monkeys in Space" is still my favorite by him. Good work Joe.

Strange times indeed! Great work Joe.

A solid piece of stand up comedy, Joe likes topics about vegans, animals, presidents and nominees. Just overall a good listen with some subtle underlying points that make you think.

Funny, but not his best performance
keibaston15 October 2018
Normally I'm a big fan of Joe's comedy, but I wasn't feeling this one.

He starts out with typical anti-Trump jokes (which we've all heard 100x before), then anti-Hillary, then anti-government. It's cool. It's just comedy. But it's not new material.

The rest of his performance is a mix between examples of how life is bizarre, how weed is getting legalized, imitations of women, and overdrawn apologies about how he didn't want to offend anyone. It misses the mark, and we've heard this all before, especially from Joe. If you listen to his podcasts, he talks about this stuff incessantly.

There were some funny moments because of Joe's expressive nature, but I feel like I couldn't relate to this performance at all. In my opinion, some of his best work isn't when he's critiquing how bizarre things are to him, but when his comedy is bizarre. No one thinks covering up your nipples is strange. No one thinks women giving birth is either. This Netflix special is like a rehash from both his "Talking Monkeys in Space" and "Triggered" material.

Glad we still have a comedian who still goes there, feminists don't watch this or your head will explode.

Has some highlights
ComedyFan201025 October 2018
I like Joe Rogan's podcast and was curious to see him as a comedian. He really isn't bad. But a lot of it wasn't really funny. Not offensive just not funny. One thing that I found hilarious was the part about vegans and animals. And this has nothing to do with me being against vegans. I am for saving animals and admire them. I liked how Joe Rogan even said that most vegans are good, an he said it in a pretty fun way. I loved all the other jokes on the topic as well as his whole body language. I wold say that difference between cat and dog personalities is a common joke but he did it in a very special way. And this topic was a big part of the stand up so I can say I enjoyed most of it.

Joe's podcast. Without the guest
ersbel3 October 2018
This show is one hour. Which is a blessing, given the podcast can go up to three hours. The downside: there is no guest.

Possibly his best standup special yet!
TheHandThatBleeds6 October 2018
I got into Joe Rogan back when I randomly decided to watch Talking Monkeys in Space. Since then, I have kept up with him and watched all of his standups. They've all been pretty good, but I felt that they never got close to the greatness of Talking Monkeys. I have to say that I think Strange Times might just top them all. It's been a while since a standup show had me laughing heavily throughout the whole thing, and this one did just that. This routine really hits Dave Chappelle levels of funny, and I think that's the best compliment I could give.

Expected way more..
beryl-9423117 October 2018
Firstly I'm a HUGE Joe Rogan fan! I've probably watched half of his podcasts at this point. His previous specials are better IMHO. An average podcast is much more comedic.. I think because it comes from a more relaxed atmosphere. Joes nervous screaming and swearing throughout the special is brutal.. A couple of good bits here and there but I expected WAAAY more.. Certainly after Joe had said that this was his best special. Joe shall forever be a podcasting god not a comic..

Luv u Joe!

We laughed so HARD
PalmTreeCloud10 October 2018
I love Joe Rogan's brand of comedy. He is not for everyone, but if you enjoy him you will laugh out loud. He says what everyone is thinking but won't say. The pacing is great and if you listen to his podcast you won't be disappointed.

So funny.
zzzonkout24 December 2018
He uses the "F-word" way too much. Like, it's not always necessary for the joke. It actually takes away from the joke because you're thinking, "My god he's said the F-word 16 times already!" With that being said, his jokes were pretty brilliant. He definitely gave us a funny way of looking at things! If it wasn't for all the constant neverending cussing, I'd give this a 10. He had me and my husband laughing quite a bit and nodding and saying things like, "Well, he's not wrong!" Very entertaining. We watched Russell Brand's new standup the other night, and this was much better. Much, much better.

PS- I don't know if he recycles the material from his podcasts because I don't follow that. So everything I heard was brand new to me.

Solid piece of observational comedy
dannygarbutt-201975 September 2019
Joe is a strong and interesting comedian. However, for better or worse it's clear the success of his podcast has affected his comedy as he discusses numerous subjects of that crop up quite regularly on his show.

I think he's a very intelligent guy subconsciously and doesn't give himself enough credit for it, he understands what his audience listens to him for and it is clear he caters to that.

He sees things that are already hugely popular talking points amongst the general public, mainly politics and societal issues and makes high quality, interesting jokes.

Everything he said was on point and struck a chord with me and he does very well to accommodate all sides of the political spectrums and opposite ideologies by making both sides a target for his comedy.

Very enjoyable special overall and I would like to see another from Joe, possibly with the following changes:

I understand this was meant to be a slightly aggressive piece of comedy aimed at specific groups of people... However the delivery came across slightly shouty and due to that his tonality seemed to be off at times, meaning I couldn't always understand where the punchline was in the joke or where he was using sarcasm/being serious.

Try think out of the box, Joe. I understand these are trying times and he speaks about them all the time on the podcast, therefore it's familiar stomping ground for him. However, it would just be nice to see something a little different from him rather than a complete social commentary on subjects that are broadly discussed in general day to day life of people in this strange political climate.

Not a natural comedian
BradysJoc22 September 2020
He works hard and has been doing this for a long time. You can tell he's well prepared but, he's just not that funny. His delivery is overly shouty to the point of being annoying. He has strange body language sometimes, like how he grips the mic very tightly and holds his elbow up and out, it's like he's flexing his forearm at the crowd the whole time... it's weird, like a nervous comic thing but he's supposed to be this long term vet of the business and the way he talks about comedy on his podcast you'd think he was in the top tier of stand up comedy. All that could be forgiven though if not for one thing, his material is pretty bland and at times very shallow. If you've seen his podcast you've heard all of these jokes before. To quote Joe himself "there's an originality problem". I love his podcast, enjoy his UFC commentating, actually liked Newsradio, but have never been a fan of his stand up. I keep trying to give it a chance because of how he talks about the "process" of creating standup like he's an all time great but I constantly get disappointed but what he puts out on stage. He clearly doesn't have a lot of self awareness when it comes to his standup abilities (dunning kruger effect in action) and I'm starting to think the majority of his comedy fans (and high ratings) are coming from his die hard podcast followers who are more than a little biased. Watch for yourself though... always.

Joe Rogan strikes again!
leon-zrile2 October 2018
His comedy routine is edgy, provocative, and not at all gay. Not that there's anything wrong with gay. It's not only funny. It makes you think, which is what real comedy should always be about. From man and women rights, double standards, to religion.

A must see for everyone who hates cats and vegans. (That's a joke you'll get if you watch the show :) )

Pleasantly surprising
grantss13 February 2022
A Joe Rogan stand-up comedy special filmed in Boston.

I had low expectations for this. In terms of Joe Rogan's comedy, I enjoyed him in NewsRadio in the 90s but after that he went on to do low-brow reality TV stuff like Fear Factor, so I figured he was out of the comedy business. Furthermore, the recent controversies involving his podcast made me think that that his comedy routine would just be some right-wing rant.

So it was a pleasant surprise when I found his comedy very funny and hardly an ideology-based rant. He is quite irreverent and un-PC but hardly as potentially controversial as Dave Chappelle or even Ricky Gervais or Bill Burr.

In fact that is a weak spot in his routine as he is often saying "hey, that's not my view, that's my comedy" as if to diffuse any backlash in advance. This has dampens the effect of some of his jokes.

Also pleasantly surprising is how well thought out and intelligent some of the observations are.

However, not brilliant. Some of his musings and joke build-ups go off on a tangent and he seemed to run out of steam towards the end.

Very funny for the most part though.

Oh it's good
mikayakatnt22 March 2020
An hour-long Netflix special of Joe Rogan doing what he does best: being the loud, politically-incorrect, dudebro we all know. Expect lots of yelling and a surprisingly solid stand-up performance.

I don't follow Joe Rogan's podcasts, but the Netflix special kept my attention. He goes back and forth between the usual "lol, leftists" topics and goes through some interesting shower thoughts topics.

Was a bit more yelling from Joe Rogan than I liked. The guy yells himself red while on stage. The energy is funny at first, but gets old fast.

3.5/5. Good hour-long entertainment, but not laugh-out-loud funny.

He speaks the True True
armoredkittens8 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This stand up is a huge breath of fresh air. It's not political at all. Joe talks about the truths of our strange reality and the things people are afraid to talk about. Every bit is very well constructed and informed. You can see bits of Carlin coming out and Joe having to hold back in the most disciplined way. I think if anyone doesn't enjoy this special, it's because he taught them something they didn't know about themselves that's unsettling, and that's what comedy is. This was a missing link in the chain of the progression of stand up comedy and he's showing us a beautiful glimpse of the future that he's already learned to manifest. #vegancats

Came in Sceptical but was pleasantly surprised.
djspazmtl29 November 2018
Like many others I discovered Joe through the UFC. I have become a fan of Joe's mainly because I've been impressed with his curiosity, candid discussions and the variety of guests and subjects he covers on his podcasts...I watched his 2017 stand up performance in Atlanta and found it was a bit underwhelming(although it had some funny moments). This special was excellent in comparison and much more consistent with what you hear on his podcast.

Love the podcast, but...
sheila-988583 October 2018
Pretty much a cringefest in my opinion, as always with his stand-up. He comes in with a lot of energy in this one YELLING the entire time, which pretty much pressures the crowd into laughing / applauding at stuff that's really just not funny at all. One or two good bits in this to be fair, but it's all just recycled stuff that we've already heard on his podcast for years. Not even worked into any funny type of way. Poor Joe. You're a great podcast host but not a good stand-up comedian.

One of his better Stand-up specials
nic_vv25 October 2018
I have been a long time supporter of Joe, listening to his podcasts since inception. Regardless of how good his podcast is, I have always considered his stand up pretty average. As others have said, there is a lot of yelling and often I find the material simply not funny and shallow in nature. This special was different though, the jokes had deeper substance (even if the jokes punchlines were 'simple') and the content was relevant to today's PCness. Overall I found this actually quite funny, inciting laughs at some of the hooks and inducing a different way of looking at issues which I generally appreciate about comedians state of minds and how they look at life.

Definitely one of his best works he has done so far, well worth the watch.

Don't trust reviews here - Watch it!
IrakliKandelaki6 January 2019
Yeah, you read that right. Go and watch it yourself, don't trust the reviews here, including mine.

This is Joe Rogan's one of the best works, hands down.

I was kind of skeptical in the beginning, but turned out to be one of the best stand-ups I've ever seen.

It's not like he is screaming and forces everyone to laugh, not at all.

And trust me, I've seen Rogan's bad stand-ups too.

My husband watched this, and recommended it to me. I was skeptical, because I'm not a big Joe Rogan fan. I laughed so hard at this special that I was crying. My stomach hurt from laughing so hard.
