Trumpet builder Peter Werth is kidnapped. The kidnapper seems to know the victim very well, which makes the investigators infer to a possible culprit from his immediate environment. Also, the sum of the ransom demand seems strangely appropriate to the financial situation of the family. When Werth is found dead, it turns out that both the family members and the former employee Harald Borken have a motive. Jan Maybach is especially fond of the case, as he has recently lost his own father and is still struggling with his feelings.
