"Le mort de la plage" is a pretty average movie, neither superb nor awful. The premise shows great promise, but that promise mainly fails to materialise. In other, more capable hands the blood-drenched subject matter could have turned into a truly chilling or saddening modern tragedy, but sadly this is not the case. The writing too leaves something to be desired. For instance, there's a plot line about a stolen abbey treasure that peters out in an unsatisfactory manner. Come on, people, it can't be all that hard to think up an interesting tale about a king's ransom in stolen treasure...
The acting isn't anything to write home about, but the sets and scenery are nice enough.
