Water
imdb-1748310 September 2020
Not a bad episode. One thing had me scratching my head though. They have bags with which to collect the water. Cool. Sooooo why the whole negative ion charged suit stuff? Why couldn't Emma just hold the bag up to the nozzle to collect the water as it sprayed out? I would think that would be _a lot_ easier and more efficient.

Enjoyable & believable but for one scene
digitalchet14 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Decent episode as far as the series goes. Was invested and enjoying it until they got the part where they perform the EVA to collect the water. We're expected to believe that they go to the trouble of suiting up, spending precious time decompressing, stepping out of the ship into empty space to perform a completely overcomplicated procedure? C'mon, we're either actually too stupid to understand the physics involved, or they didn't explain the reason why they had to overcomplicate the procedure. Emma could easily have held the bags to the valve and gathered all of the water instead of having them both sitting there looking dumbstruck while water leaked out into space. This seems like the work of a writer either trying to be overly clever, or one simply failing to convey the science that necessitated the manoeuvre. Anyways, barring that one scene, it was enjoyable.

Far Fetched Science
Hitchcoc8 September 2020
Well, here we are, one episode left, and we're not to Mars yet. There are some big doings coming in the last hour. It should be interesting. This whole thing is about the quest for water, to allow them to try a potential suicide mission. The romance on earth continues. Pretty good suspense, I guess.

Fast forward the Lex/Isaac/Mel/Matt scenes and it's pretty good.

Liked it. Agree with another reviewer - just let the pressure get the water into the bag. Like collecting snow.

Loved the spacewalk and the view of Mars... Wow.

DIY skills??

Warning: Spoilers
While the season has certainly had its slow moments, and each episode has at least one person overreact, I'm liking it so far. However, I'm pretty sure that any member of the crew who's gone through THAT much training, should be able to drill thru one layer of the ship without puncturing the second layer. Moderate DIY dad skills. Just saying.

Ugh just use some duct tape
jim-118528 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Really the smartest people in the world don't take duct tape with them when drilling a hole in the space ship? The air is going out; easy to plug a 3/8" hole. The technical part of this show drives me nuts.

Water Water Everywhere. But Not A Drop To Drink!!!
wandernn1-81-6832745 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
So now the team and ground are focused on landing on Mars. Even tho there is no proof at all that the Pegasus survived.....only a glimmer of hope.

Now Matt, who was excluded from mission control, is now back in mission control. He was too emotionally connected before.....what changed? Oh that's right, nothing!!! But he's back in mission control nonetheless ordering people around.

Now Ram, who just backdoored Emma last episode, is sucking up to Emma telling her about how many people care about her. Yeah sorry man you showed your character when you let LU walk all over you last episode.

And the pity party continues. Lex is crying reading her mother's texts... And everyone constantly is talking about how something 'terrible' might have happened.

Isaac at least, seems to have his head screwed on straight. Maybe the only one in the whole show...

So they spend this whole episode crying about water., again......

And at the end Emma and Ram do a spacewalk to work on the water problem. When they come back....there's a moment when it seems like Ram is going to kiss Emma. LOL... After betraying her last episode now he wants to make out with her?? And it seems like she's thinking about it too!!! WoW.

Okay it doesn't actually HAPPEN, so I'm just going to leave it there.

A few simple questions for the scientists out there
Stanley-UK14 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Leaving aside the questionable technique that was used to drill a hole in the wall in order to access the water in the hull, this stimulates these questions:-

1. "Why was there not a tap built into the wall to access this water, when dying of thirst due to the complicated water recycling system breaking down was clearly a reasonable possibility?"

Also, it is not clear to me:

2. "What kind of radiation would be able to pass through the (presumably metal) walls of the hull but be unable to pass through water held in the walls of the hull to absorb this radiation?" Also:

3. "Would it not have been possible to put a coat of paint capable of absorbing this radiation on the outside of the hull, so it would not be necessary to have the 'protective shell' of water there?" And:

4. "Where, exactly, was this radiation coming from?" If I was a cynic, I might suggest that the main purpose of having a water 'shell' in the hull was to allow the writers to come up with a plot line involving a desperate attempt to access this water!

The temperature outside of the spaceship is mentioned as being close to Absolute Zero at around -270 degrees Celsius. On that basis, unless there was incredible thermal insulation in the hull walls, it would be reasonable to assume that the temperature of the water in the hull would be below 0 degrees Celsius, i.e. It would be present there as ice. As a result, when the tap was opened by Commander Green from outside the spaceship:

5. "Why did liquid water come spurting out?" And:

6. "What caused the pressure to make the water spurt out?" It could not be a head of pressure caused by gravity, which causes water to come out of a tap or faucet on Earth.

If, for some reason, the water in the hull was in the liquid state and some magical force generated the pressure which caused it to spurt out into deep space:

7. "What forces caused the water to stay together in the form of droplets, instead of immediately spreading out and forming a fine spray or aerosol?" Furthermore, if the temperature outside the hull was -270 degrees Celsius:

8. "Why did the water droplets not instantly turn into crystals of ice, instead of staying in the liquid state before being attracted to the spacesuit by static electricity (described as a 4th grade Science experiment) and somehow magically collected in plastic bags?"

I realise that it must have been impossible to convincingly film the series on Earth whilst pretending to be in zero gravity, so I am willing to overlook all of the objects sitting on tables etc. Throughout the spaceship, but - in my opinion - this does not justify having a storyline involving 'tapping' the hull of the ship to extract liquid water at temperatures that it would undoubtedly be, or quickly become, solid water.
