The Dead Girl In Apartment 03
BandSAboutMovies22 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After recently moving to New York City, Laura's (Laura Dooling) new roommate Elizabeth is already dead and she's left alone in the apartment to deal with the emotional and supernatural aftermath.

With the help of Detectives Miller (Frank Wihbey) and Richards (Adrienne King, who is - of course - Alice from Friday the 13th), as well as her ex-boyfriend Christian (Bryan Manley Davis), she has to figure out who left the symbols under Elizabeth's bed and murdered her before she's the next victim.

The movie starts with Christian trying to explain to the cops why three dead bodies were in her apartment and also why Laura is gone before rewinding back to its story. That's a huge spoiler delivered by the actual film that we're about to watch. That said, Dooling is great in the film and her fears are quite believable, especially once the power goes out.

Director Kurtis Spieler has become well-known for overseeing the dubbing and assembling the footage to create the patchwork cult film New York Ninja. He also made the movies The Devil's Well and Sheep Skin.

Do you believe in ghosts?
nogodnomasters15 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The film opens with a man being questioned at a police station about dead bodies found in an apartment. He asks the investigator, "Do you believe in ghosts?" This lets us know the glimpses we get of people in scenes are supposed to be there and not rogue stage hands. Laura (Laura Dooling) discovers her roommate is dead and has been dead for a few days. Then weird things start to happen as we get to the climax.

The film is a low budget ghost story filmed primarily in one location with Laura Dooling having to carry the whole film. The scares were okay. The acting and script were about average, There was nothing bad about the film, it just lacked a great scene. They should have done the final apartment scene better.

Guide: No swearing, sex, or nudity.

Warning: Spoilers
99% percent of this movie was dark. Like I could see my reflection in the screen dark. I expected more. Just usual scary movie. Got some jumpscares. But otherwise it's just meh. Same story that was done before. I felt like I'm still confused about this movie.

A clumsy movie
olcayozfirat19 October 2022
An unsuccessful horror movie made in 2022. It is a movie translated by 5 people with amateur acting and a ridiculous subject. One of the two girls staying in the same house is dead, the other hears a scratching sound and enters her friend's room. There he encounters the girl's body. The girl died with her mouth slipping. The police come and investigate and leave the girl there while the house is like that. Then strange things happen to the girl at home. Evil spirit, witchcraft, etc. All together in the movie. The movie is boring even though it is 1 hour and 10 minutes. I knew it was hard to dodge forward. There is no fear element at all. There is constant conversation. I definitely do not recommend the movie. Waste of time.

There are no nudity or sexually explicit scenes in the movie.

After this, there may be people bored to death in multiple apartments...
paul_haakonsen27 August 2022
Right, well of course I opted to watch this 2022 horror movie as I stumbled upon it. After all, I have been a horror fan ever my early teenage years.

I hadn't heard about "The Dead Girl in Apartment 03" prior to watching it, so I wasn't sure what to expect from writer and director Kurtis Spieler. So every chance to impress and entertain was readily available.

30 minutes into the ordeal and I am bored to tears. Wow, talk about a snoozefest of epic proportions. This movie was a massive swing and a miss, and it just fell entirely short of capturing my interesting. Watching boring monotonous dialogue hardly constitutes being proper entertainment when I sit down to watch a movie.

The only thing that was scary in "The Dead Girl in Apartment 03" was the absolute sheer boredom that permeated the movie in every scene. The whole movie was just so incredibly slow paced that I was losing more and more interest in it with each passing minute.

I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble that participated in the making of this movie, but it was a real shame that the actors and actresses were given nothing worthwhile to work with in terms of script, storyline, dialogue or characters.

This movie is not something I will return to watch the rest of. 30 minutes of literally nothing was more than enough to scare me away. And this is definitely not a movie that I would recommend for horror fans to sit down and watch. Some of us suffered through this ordeal in greater or shorter length, so you don't have to.

I am rating "The Dead Girl in Apartment 03" a very generous two out of ten stars, and that is based on the production value of the movie entirely.

One of the worst movies I've ever seen
lsworks23 August 2022
Very one dimensional and formulaic storyline. If u left and came back later on, u will not have missed anything in terms of any new plot developments. It seemed like a really bad, boring episode of Goosebumps.

get you nightgoogles on cause its awfully dark...
ops-525359 August 2022
A film That you will forget as fast as youve read this review. Theyve made a basic horror movie, with a small cast, the same names showing up multipel times on the cast and crew list, and bear all signs of wannabe filmaking. But its hard without the financial foundation, and the story is mainstream satanic, and is narrated through a police interview 9 hours after the horrific happenings occured.

The cast delivers ok, and the playtime is perfect, its just the plot and story that doesnt hit a homerun by the grumpy old man. Its obviously an oblivious obelisque on the silverscreen heaven.

New genre: 'Agony'?
dirkmeilink13 August 2022
The only horrifying aspect of this horror, is that the acting performance -of pretty much everyone but the lead, Laura- can apparently be poor enough to make you not even notice how awful the writing actually is.

I never leave reviews, but this compelled me to.
brookslaw-9622011 January 2023
It was bad. Absolutely nothing to see here. I hate I'm required to write anything. I'd rather be nice and say nothing more. It was extremely dark and I believe that's a tactic to keep you either interested or not knowing how cheap the set/production is. There is no explanation as to what happened. Just a couple plot ideas thrown into a pot. The audio is weird. Sounds like it was added after filming and laid over it. The actors weren't great, but in their defense they didn't have much to work with. I hope there was more to this and the best was left on the cutting room floor that we'll never get to see.

Maybe The Cops Missed Something....
wandernn1-81-68327430 November 2022
Really some bad scriptwriting here. I noticed 2 conversations where 2 different characters repeated the same line. That is annoying. Like when one person says 'Maybe the cops missed something.' And then like 20 seconds later another character in the same conversation says 'Could be the cops missed something' . And that happened more than once. That's poor. Very poor.

So some girl is dead and her roommate is left with the mystery of whodunnit, and the cops are clueless and really don't follow standard procedure very well. In fact the cops' procedures are really in question in this movie, like whoever wrote it and directed it really didn't know cops' procedures in general That's poor. Very Poor.

Overall this movie was poor. Very poor. 3/10.

Suspenseful
gcjzkdnj29 August 2022
The film does a great job building suspense for its first half. The film cuts between the quiet and haunting apartment as our protagonist scenes to the police investigation and the slowly-becoming-involved ex-boyfriend. I won't spoil anything major, but the film follows a predictable-enough arc that it's still a good watch knowing the major plot points. A major strength is the picture's shorter runtime. It makes for a quick-and-easy watch and each scene proves intentional towards moving the plot forward and wrapping up the the ending. Cheesy at times? Definitely, but that's my style for horror/suspense as well.

Personally, I'd recommend it to just about anyone and I think any older-school horror fan would have a great time watching this.

I maybe a little biased
vberry-1477110 August 2022
First I will say I am biased because a family member filmed this movie. It's quite unfortunate that this movie is not there. The dialogue sounds like a bunch of npc's in a poorly made video game. The plot doesn't seem to fully be thought threw. I enjoyed watching this keeping in mind that it is a small company making it. But I can't get my mind off the fact that the audio is terrible. Another issue that presents itself is the fact that the actors are unfortunately terrible. I've seen college film finals with better acting in it. The characters don't match the vibe of the voice a bit. Not a single emotion is showed while the actors are talking. Unfortunate that this movie turned out this way because I know the people who made it. Another thing to add is that it is labeled as a horror movie yet in the first hour nothing scary happens that anyone who watches horror movies would call scary. The ghost showed itself a few times yet it's a little too predictable. Overall, this company has made better movies in the past, unfortunately this one is not any good.

Pathetically Predictable
tmccull5211 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
What is it that first responders say to gawkers and rubberneckers that stop and stare at the scene of an accident?

"Move along, folks. Nothing to see here."

There you go. There is virtually nothing new to see in this movie, either. I had the end and twist of the movie figured out when the dead roommate's boyfriend showed up, and I am not a master detective by the stretch of even the most generous imagination. The performances by the cast weren't exactly stellar, but they weren't the worst that I've ever seen, either. The plot and storyline are dreadfully predictable, however. As far as being a genuinely scary or frightening movie, it's not even close. There aren't any jump scares or frightening moments that haven't been used a bazillion times in a bazillion other, better horror movies.

Several issues right from the start
SirenKnight9 May 2023
Okay, I'm 10 minutes in and I have issues. This movie is very short, and part of that time is a long opening credits without storyline.

The movie starts with a girl finding out her roommate is dead and has been for "a day or two" - most people may not realize this and I'm sorry to ruin it for you, but trust me, as soon as a body dies, it begins to decay and soon after it starts to SMELL. After "at least a day" unless the room had zero air flow into the apartment she would have noticed. There might even already be flies. Add the annoying sounds of car horns outside during the otherwise soft spoken short police interview and JT appears the windows are open, which means the AC is NOT running (at least it's not heat on?) but I just wish if you're going to do a B- Horror movie which typically appeals to a certain crowd, do some minimal research please.

Also, once the roommate says "I don't know, I didn't know her that well" they ask an even more personal question. That's just lazy writing.

The acting is flat. Everyone is deadpan in an emotional situation. One scene with some hysterical hyperventilation is it. I was annoyed long before the by the expressway that must run in front of this apartment based on the horns that go all night long.

Sadly, it had potential. It's why I gave it two stars. The actual plot of the movie which ends in the middle with its mediocre twist (which to not spoil it, I'll just say, maybe it will give her more personality?) and unfinished cliffhanger are just not worth the 73 minutes of flatline phone conversations and horns honking. I'm fine with minimalism when done well... This was just DOA.

Silly
hoops-534367 May 2023
I can't just write silly and I am afraid if I write silly 100 times (to cover the 600 character minimum) they won't accept it....or maybe figure I came from the movie The Shining.

This is a miserable piece of crap that should not be shown. It seems anyone can make a film these days and subject poor viewers to an hour and a half of misery.

I taught middle school and my middle schoolers could have taken the first ten minutes of this film and made it into a really good movie. Since I am teacher I will grade: Casting- F Acting- F Writing- F Plot- F Directing- F I would not want my name on any credit for this miserable excuse for a movie.

so bad
GiselleRomana11 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I don't write many reviews but this movie struck out to me. I thought it would be a normal horror movie involving ghosts and a nice scary movie to watch with a blanket. Let me just tell you the acting it was um horrible. The whole time the two police officers acted like a married couple. What does it make sense to me is that the police officers took one look at the scene and was like all right here's my card see you they didn't even clean up the body or investigate the room. The officer's missed the scratches on the doors in the box in the closet. They didn't even shut down the apartment and they let Laura stay in the apartment it wasn't even like closed off or anything. This movie does not make sense to me The acting is terrible just let you know.

It needs a lot of improving...
rosie-2941610 August 2022
This movie honestly felt like a film-making student's graduation project. A lot of the things were really weak. The dialogue, story, scenario, even some of the actor's acting.. I of course appreciate and respect the crew's hard work, time, money, and effort they've put in, and I think it was mainly the Director\writer's responsibility to fix the weaknesses in this movie, or invest these resources to create a better story\write a better scenario. It's rated as a horror movie but nothing even moderately scary happened until minute 53 out of a movie that's 1hour 12 minutes long, except for 3 or 4 scenes that show the ghost for a few seconds! The end was very predictable and unexciting. The atmosphere of the movie was uncomfortable in a good way if anything. However, for me, it wasn't scary. I really hope the people who worked on the movie take this review as constructive criticism and a way to fix these problems in future projects because it wasn't intended to be any other way and I believe they have the potential to do so much better.

Great job on a Lower Budget Scary Movie!
rileyblis17 May 2023
I rented this movie about a month ago when I was looking for something good to watch. I really like the movie. I thought they did a great job for a lower budget movie with just a few actors in it. The lead actress is really pretty and did a really good job. I felt like I was in her shoes And could kind of feel what she was going through, being stuck in an apartment where someone just passed away because you're not able to just up and move. Realized the actress Adrienne King was in the movie. Before I realized who that was, I thought that actress did a great job on playing the tougher experienced cop. I recommend this to everyone and Rate it a 10. I actually thought it was better than some more expensive movies I rented right before this one. -I am a Horror Screenwriter myself and a move I wrote titled 'DEATH CAMP Just came out on Amazon and other platforms. It starrs Emmy Award Winner Bill Oberst Jr! I would be very appreciative if everyone reading this can check out my own movie, Rate it & write a small Review for me. I already have a sequel In Pre-production.

Not the best but fun enough for what it is
kannibalcorpsegrinder12 August 2022
After the death of her roommate, a woman goes through the process of trying to get her life cleaned up as well as the apartment of the deceased's belongings, but when she's convinced that her spirit still haunts the building tries to get some resolution to the matter while avoiding the police.

Overall, this was a rather fun if slightly flawed effort. Among the better aspects to be had here are the impressive atmospheric touches that come about due to the ghostly encounters. The initial setup of stumbling across the body and trying to come to terms with the incident is well enough and gets this going nicely which provides the launching point for the slight series of encounters throughout here as the ghost comes up at unexpected moments. Granted, most of them are just standing around behind her unknowingly or just walking quickly in the background behind her but the fact that there's a sense of an unnatural presence in the area makes for a creepy time at points with this one. That sets up the big finale where this one comes across rather nicely with a bit more action than expected. The idea of the ghostly being's true state of appearance comes off rather nicely while the chilling revelations provide this one with a strong series of storylines that serve to introduce a fine occult angle into the proceedings. That occurs with the series of ghostly encounters finally turning into a bit more malicious and even featuring a more vicious being that shows up in a shocking sequence that's highly unexpected which gets this going quite nicely into the big reveal about the incident that killed the roommate that has a lot to like overall. These factors manage to give the film some fun enough elements to make it enjoyable. There are some minor drawbacks to be had here. One of the biggest issues here stems from the decidedly unusual police investigation that goes on here which is somewhat clumsily handled. The idea of the detectives trying to get through the case as quickly as possible by blaming everything on her before doing any kind of investigative detective work seems immensely off-putting and unrealistic that's rightfully shot down by the more experienced partner. However, that's not an excuse as to why it was included to begin with beyond being an opportunity to get a name-star more screen-time. That they spend more time on the phone reacting to her bringing new clues to their attention rather than doing it themselves also shows a distressing amount of lacking in this area which shouldn't be the case. As well, the last issue here comes from the tempered and slow-building pace that doesn't do much in the way of generating action for long stretches of time. The ghost attacks are barely attacks but merely sightings happening in the briefest possible manner without ensuring that there's any contact between them until the end, Filling that time instead are scenes involving the roommate trying to go about her life or the boyfriend helping her for information on the matter so it's quite dull for stretches at a time until it gets to that finale where it picks up again. Coupled with the few instances of the low-budget shining through in the effects work, these are the few drawbacks holding it down.

Rated Unrated/R: Violence and Language.

Decently Creepy
imcharleen24 April 2023
The movie starts off with some creepiness within the first 15 minutes which is a nice change from the movies where nothing happens for an hour and a half, and then one thing happens at the very end. At least in this movie the creepy parts are peppered throughout so you are never "bored".

I enjoyed this movie much moreso than many of the other reviews on here, but I am very into the paranormal and any movie with disfigured bodies (being that they are super creepy to me).

I thought the acting was decent, I've definitely seen much worse. The cops are probably the weakest in terms of acting ability, but they play a small part of the movie. For a movie that I just decided to watch on a random whim, having low expectations from the start, it actually was surprisingly decent. I would even watch it again down the road.

I saw a lot of reviews saying this movie was "predictable", but if you're like me where you actually just submerse yourself in the movie and allow yourself to watch it instead of overanalyzing the hell out of it, then I think you'll enjoy it. I think a lot of people ruin movies for themselves because they're constantly trying to predict the ending. Just enjoy it and don't sit there overthinking it the whole time.

Moody and Isolated
selfdestructo16 January 2023
The Dead Girl in Apartment 03 is a really, really low-key ghost story. So much so, that the dialogue comes off as too simplistic, and other times redundant. I wouldn't even say this movie offers anything new to the genre, and in terms of brevity, I think it's a bit too short (72 minutes). Surely this filmmaker has left some room for characters and story to be further fleshed out. There's a police procedural angle (with Adrienne King from Friday the 13th), where the detectives basically just show up to console the "living" girl in apartment 03, and miss evidence (never mind the scratches, which are never explained, but there's a huge satanic symbol under the dead girl's bed, in the same room they were collecting evidence!). The ghosts occasionally show up to say "Hi," and nothing more, though they are startling to look at.

Why a 7? This movie has atmosphere for miles, and I can't get enough of claustrophobic settings.

Laura splits from her boyfriend in Massachusetts to move to New York City, and answers an ad for a roommate. After two months, she discovers her roommate has mysteriously died. There is an occult and supernatural element, as well as a couple twists at the end. But the bulk of this movie involves Laura's sense of isolation in her apartment (she spends the entire duration there, only once venturing elsewhere, a futile trip to the basement because her lights go out). Also, her helplessness, as her only options seem to be reaching out to her ex, 3 hours away, and the inept cop who left his number, and expressed interest in dating her (yeah, he botches the ending, as well!). So, I really enjoyed the trapped aspect of Laura's story, the subdued tone of the film, and the dank atmosphere the entire movie possesses. Could've used a couple re-writes, if not an entirely different writer.

Oh yeah, the opening and closing theme sounds suspiciously like John Carpenter's Halloween.

Loved the ambience of the film
patrickjflannigan-7322724 September 2023
The movie itself is a fun little scary piece with a "who dunnit" theme running through it. I enjoyed the style of the actors and how the story moved along at a steady pace, yet was still able to introduce everyone's general character. I especially appreciated the time and effort that was put into the colors and designs of each scene. The contrasts in some scenes were so intriguing, I would rate it a 10. A couple of times I felt like I was experiencing an animated painting. The plot continually slipped in subtle undertones of a deeper symbolism at play: who is really bad and who is good, and it had me guessing all the way to the end.
