Sharmaji namkeen
puranjanbasak1 April 2022
Sharmaji namkeen is a comedy drama family film directed by hitesh bhatia. Lets not talk about the positives and negatives for the film. Lets not judge this film and only celebrate it for india's one of the most finest actors is working in it. Rishi kapoor and his legacy will always go on. Paresh rawal deserves all the praise for agreeing to this film. Watch it. Watch it for all the beautiful moments it will give you. You will have a constant smile on your face. Its a beautiful film.

This should have released in theaters!
Biswas_31 March 2022
At a time when when cinema is packed with gangster glorifying or hero glorifying masala violence film, cinema desperately needs beautiful slice of life films like Sharmaji Namkeen. Such is the low level the audience have stooped that they are only preferring masala films in theaters (except TKF) so much so that makers of such small budget slice of life films fear to release their films in theater.

Sharmaji Namkeen is definitely not the best slice of life film I have seen but it still a nice sweet one. It talks about life after retirement and the subsequent relation of a retired father with his son.

The plot is simple and straightforward and has enough sweet moments to put a smile on you and your parents face. Ofc this is a must watch with your family. Especially your mom dad who have been witnessing the legend Chintu ji for years must get to see him one last time and believe me it will leave them tear eyed knowing they won't get to witness the legend any more.

This is totally Rishi Kapoor's film. With age, he just gets more sweeter . Whenever he's given a sweet character to play, he absolutely nails it. Paresh Rawal does a good job filling in his shoes but definitely misses the charm Rishi posseses . Juhi Chawla gets in a film after long time it's good to witness her.

What I also liked is Sharmaji's elder son's performance. His character is such, even in scenes of quarrel, he never gets overboard like you know we have seen Arjun Kapoor in 2 states slapping his dad and what not in many films, but in this, his anger is under control showing he still respects his father. Good thing!

Negatives- climax is a bit overdone imo.

Overall, you just can't miss this one. If you are looking for a slice of life film that puts a smile on your face with no complicated narrations and stuff, then Sharmaji Namkeen is your film to watch. Watch it with your family.

Tejas_Vinda_AITS31 March 2022
This film belongs to *rishi kapoor* - fun loving,,, foody buddy.

Paresh Rawal, taking up the same role is a wonderful decision..., *after rishi kapoor's exit* for an obvious reason..!

Never felt that Paresh Rawal had *replaced* Rishi Kapoor.

Simple story which has emotions, drama, laughter, friendship and relations - *A complete family entertainer..!!*

Loved it but sad

Good movie yet pained to see that my favourite actor is actually no more and this is his last film. A must watch for all Rishiji fans.

The opening tribute by his son Rambhir Kapoor was emotionally moving. Love from Pakistan.

What a fantastic family movie
vishalnhce1 April 2022
I love the movie from start till end. It was too good. Humor, comedy, emotions, care, love, no extra over the top drama or buildup. I wait for such story oriented movies and really thank the makers for doing a fab work. All the actors are superb and well known. No nonsense style, it brought a smile to my face.

Anwar Says : A real tribute by Paresh Rawal to the legend Rishi Kapoor, same character played by two veterans but you would still feel that Rishi Kapoor could have finished this. The sweater clad Rishi's role was tailor made for him and may be looked as Baghban-2 .

Hitesh Bhartia's team of cinematography and editing would not feel you awkward the frequent change of artist and the simplicity of all other characters including Juhi Chawla would take you to the end of the movie. Sushil Nayar is the only character worth mentioning besides the two leads , as he stand tall against the stalwarts.

Music by Sushil Khanwakar is not at par with his previous one, but as Chintuji fan , watch this to pay homage to him , and you would not regret. His cute antics would make this a memorable one . 3.5 out of 5 from me.

Farewell Rishi Kapoor!
nadkarnisumeet3 April 2022
Sharmaji Namkeen review :

Rishi Kapoor's swan song turns out to be a warm and touching tribute to the versatile actor who passed away in April 2020 leaving this film incomplete. Paresh Rawal then stepped in to shoot the remaining portions and thus, we get to see both Rishi and Paresh in the same role of Sharmaji - a retired private sector employee who finds solace in cooking and makes it his new profession, much to the chagrin of his two adult sons.

Admittedly, it takes about ten minutes to get used to watching both the actors playing the same role but the screenplay is so breezy and sweet that you get used to it soon enough and then actually end up appreciating Paresh Rawal for gamely inbibing the nuances of the character left incomplete by Kapoor. It is a fantastic performance. The supporting cast, comprising Sheeba Chaddha, Ayesha Raza and Parmeet (Bittu) Sethi, are super competent.

As for Rishi, he is absolute natural here and looks so cute and childlike in some scenes that you just wish to hug him. Sharmaji Namkeen is a perfect feel-good farewell to the fine actor who entertained us for five decades before leaving for his heavenly abode. His scenes with Juhi Chawla will certainly invoke the fond nostalgia of their Bol Radha Bol (1992) days. Do watch it. Sharmaji, tussi fun ho!!

Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.

The movie scenes were so amazingly edited that at time you will forgot that the actor has been changed for the character. After the movie completed you will not able to remember which scene has done rishi kapoor which not.

Realistic Entertainer
IPyaarCinema31 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The story and screenplay of the film are real, relatable and it touches you from the first frame itself. Every member of the audience would find his or her reflection in these characters. The emotional void parents feel in their 50s is brilliantly narrated through the screenplay. Similarly, the rebellious young minds, who desire to live life on their own terms have been displayed with a true sense of realism.

Talking about performance, late actor Rishi Kapoor owns every frame of the film. However, special mention goes to Paresh Rawal, as he carried the film forward with the same zeel, and completed Sharmaji's journey with a satisfying closure.

The film will touch your heart, as it sends out a strong message for different generations.

Light Hearted But Not Likeable
kasonf8 April 2022
I'm surprised to see the reviews of critics and audience. We should all praise it just because this is the last movie of Rishi Kapoor ????

Rishi Kapoor has done fantastic work in a lot of better movies so it is an inappropriate tribute to his legacy.

If he has to be remembered for his later year movies then those should be Mulk, Agnipath, Do Duni Chaar or even Rajma Chawal and not Sharmaji Namkeen.

In the beginning of the movie, Rishi's son Ranbeer Kapoor praises the efforts of Paresh Rawal for filling in his father's shoes. That credit is definitely due but Paresh Rawal's all throughout grumpy face causes an embarrassment to Rishi Kapoor's cheerful demeanor. But what would Paresh Rawal do in absence of a good storyline and decent script.

The saving grace is that the movie is lighthearted.

But it is a forgettable movie. 6 months down the line no one would remember it.

Great movie
imdb-ikysmoviedatabase31 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It was a good watch, it took a while for me to get used to the constant switch between the two actors playing the same character, but that wasn't done by the producers out of choice. I wish rishi had been able to complete the film for a cinema release, with it been filmed the way it is, it was the right move to release it ott cause the film wouldn't of worked at the box office, so I'm glad ott was there to give this movie a good release. At the end there is a beautiful tribute to rishi kapoor. It was good to see rishi performing for the very last time. Paresh did really well and it was good of him to step in and complete the film for the legendary rishi kapoor who will for ever be missed. Rip rishi kapoor, thanks for the memories.

A tribute to the legend
rahulbohra833831 March 2022
Once you get use to the rythym to two great actors playing the same character then it's so smooth...it's sad and heartwarming as well....it's a great attempt to complete the film thus the last work of great actor Rishi Kapoor sahab....one of the best Kapoors to grace the screen.... I think he is the only one with the longest career with the widest varities of role played....you will missed sir......

Leave it in Style like Rishi Kapoor !
artiskulkarni12 April 2022
He took his t baby steps in the rainy scenes of -Pyar Hua ikrar Hua .He spent those tender days of puberty on screen wondering about the miracles of women body and then this lad became the youth icon with his first romantic movie Bobby where every girl wanted to get locked up with him .Without a Single Kiss onscreen ,he touched Hearts of women and took his screen partner home. With his effortless natural acting and pleasing persona ,he managed to touch difficult social issues widow remarriage , cast issues and the taboo about Single oldies giving a second chance to love life in their seventies.

In the midst of action packed movies , he found his own place without a gun on his shoulder or a toned muscular bodz.. A heartfelt smile , warm personality and pure eyes were his assets .He was here to entertain.he was here to love , he was here to romance , Holding a guitar this silver screnn saint called Rishi Kapoor spread bliss and peace chanting the Matra Om Shanti Om.

We lost him in 2020 when his fans couldnt bid him a proper goodbye due to Covid restrictions or may be he never wanted his fans cry out miserably but wanted to leave a smile on their faces. That's why he made for us a sweet savory tasty treat called sharmaji Nankin .

This movie is Rishi Kapurs last gift to the silver screen where one can find glimpses of Rishi Kapoors life. With his Royal looks this third generation Kapoor sported a jesey sweter in his romantic songs in the Swiss Alps .But he enacted a poor guy or even a tailor with the same ease.

None of Tinseltown rigid Images , media fobia , starry insecurities could trap the lively spirit of RK that-s why he could leave it easily when his love for food made him difficult to run behind the bushes and instead opted for character roles to relive his passion for acting .

Thats how the forty something Millennial Generation found their contemporary Hero .He never felt alone due to Generation gap , instead this TechSavvy middle aged man kept on Twitting his KhullamKhulla attitude .He was unapologetically open about his love for Scotch, at the same time his family values, love for his wife and kids kept him grounded and warm hearted .

One finds these similar traits in shy middle aged Sharmaji who is trapped in .family duty and middle class mediocracy. He keeps on sipping his favorite drinks in the backyard with his retired friends but he is restless from within as he still wants to keep going on, remain connected and has a untapped talent and passion to cook delicious food.

But even when covered with a lid , the smell of delicious food invites the hungry soals, his talent gets revealed and a bunch of Kitty Party ladies but flee towards Sharmaji and the party begins.

You can find a desi Punjabi Delhi Mohalla version of Rishi here sporting a sweater and muffler and doing his Thumkas to the Song numbers ,showing some secret desires for the social butterflies around him , but as real Hero he stands up when his passion for food is challenged and his family is to be protected.

Well to taste the real flavor of Sharmaji Namkin one must taste it once .Rishi being the master chef Juhi and Paresh Rawal and the others sous chefs have done wonders here .

Some last words about Rishi Kapoor for his last piece of work . Let it be real life or reel life , legends like Rishi Kapoor live it in style and when there time is up they leave it in style too.

Rishi Kapoor's Last Movie is All About Self-Love and Single Parenthood !!!
cs_rahul_prasad29 April 2022
Rishi Kapoor's 'Sharmaji Namkeen' starts with a cold open, in which his son Ranbir Kapoor explains the experiment they're undertaking with the film - Paresh Rawal stepped in to play the role of 'Sharmaji' after Rishi Kapoor's untimely demise. On the face of it, two actors playing the same role sounds like a risk but the two actors flit seamlessly between their scenes blending into a stirring character.

Hitesh Bhatia's Sharmaji Namkeen is a film run by its diverse characters and exemplary palate. Food is a recurring theme in the film- a retired manager from Madhuban Appliances, Brij Gopal Sharma finds that he can't sit idle and aided by his nosey, but delightful friend KK Chaddha (Satish Kaushik), he enters the 'Kitty Party Circle' as a 'specialist cook'.

Not only does food act as an escape for Sharmaji, he also expresses himself through food- after a particularly nasty fight with his elder son Sandeep 'Rinku' Sharma (Suhail Nayyar), he expresses his anger through copious amounts of chilli in his food. The story, written by Hitesh Bhatia and Supratik Sen, is a slice-of-life tale about ageing parents and their changing relationship with their kids, while also exploring how the dynamics change within a family as everyone grows up.

There is a reference to Baghban, but Sharmaji Namkeen doesn't paint things in binaries-BG Sharma is struggling to maintain his autonomy over his life as his son Rinku tries to navigate the spotlight the rest of their family puts on Sharmaji. Taaruk Raina as Sharmaji's younger son Vincy, whose affections are clearly skewed more towards his father than his bhai is a comparatively minor character who manages to stand out regardless.

Sharmaji finds friends in a bunch of women in a kitty circle, consisting of characters played by Juhi Chawla (as Veena Manchanda), Sheeba Chaddha (as Manju Gulati), and Sulagna Panigrahi (as Aarti Bhatia) among others. They are all well-written. Women of varying ages and backgrounds come together under one roof, carving a niche for themselves away from the worries of the world.

The film is majorly set within these kitty parties, and the film explores the themes of female sensuality, sexism, career vs family, and just...lets its women characters have fun. And it does that so well. Sheeba Chaddha and Juhi Chawla's performances are highlights but they don't outshine anyone else with each character in the kitty circle, and in the film, holding their own.

Rishi Kapoor's absence rings loud, even though Paresh Rawal gives a memorable and heartwarming performance. Rishi as 'Sharmaji' just fits better in a character reminiscent of his roles in films like Rajwa Chawal and Do Dooni Chaar.

Stay till the end for BTS scenes that capture the essence of Rishi Kapoor on sets as his hit track 'Om Shanti Om' plays in the background. The film combines light humour with sentimentality and drama in a way that mirrors real life and Sharmaji Namkeen is a fitting send off to an actor of Rishi's stature and charm.

IN PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS
msunando6 May 2022
When Brij Gopal Sharma (Rishi Kapoor / Paresh Rawal), fondly known as Sharmaji is subjected to premature retirement from his services, he is advised different ways of keeping himself busy. He fills his hours during the day following his passion for cooking at home. He is clearly most excited to feed his two sons the best of his culinary delights and seeks fulfilment through it. But the elder son Rinku, who is an executive in a private firm, seems to have a problem with whatever Sharmaji does to keep himself busy and constantly eggs him to find something professional to do, like what he used to do when he was employed. Sharmaji's is a small family of three people, he having lost his wife many years ago, but open and transparent communication amongst the three men is clearly a huge issue.

Sharmaji eventually does find his mojo - he finds that there's heavy demand for his cooking abilities and culinary passion among a bunch of kitty friends who are overtly impressed with him. Initially hesitant about the company of women and that he has to cook at their houses, he is quick to realise that he achieves happiness in what he gives and gets as a reward, he strongly pursues his newfound engagement. But he is aware that his sons and other relatives will some day get to know about his pursuit and dreads about the outcome.

Sharmaji Namkeen is a deep introspection about the pursuit of happiness. What should someone do after the professional commitments get over and all the time is available? Should he / she continue to look for opportunities in the field of experience or pursue something that has forever been on the mind that will perhaps give a new dimension to life? How important is it to conform to social norms and consider what others will have to say about the new endeavours? Will the dilemma about what to do and what's socially right to do overburden the mind?

Rishi Kapoor's last screen appearance is a remarkable movie by all means and had he been able to complete it, Sharmaji Namkeen would have been one of his best in his mature years. Not that it isn't, but Paresh Rawal, who stepped in to complete the film after Rishi Kapoor's demise holds his own grounds. Consequently, we get to see two stalwarts playing the same character, but doing their individual brand of histrionics. Whilst hugely enjoyable as a subject that you can instantly associate with, watching two very different people playing the same lead role is uncanny. No harm done, Sharmaji Namkeen is a film for everyone, excellently executed, heartwarming and a raucous comedy. A special mention about Juhi Chawla who encourages Sharmaji to follow his pursuit of happiness, she is brilliant in her little role, and Parmeet Sethi adds zest and glamor.

Predictable plot, few funny titbits
asgharsphone2 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The story is predictable from the first 15mins.

Opening scene is Ranbir reading a monologue from a tele promoter. The monologue is supposed to be a tribute to his father, but he still needs a tele promoter.

There are a few laughable moments other than that it's a good family entertainer.

But Kapoorji true to his standards does overact to his best will. Paresh rawal scenes were much better and done really well.

It's a really fun movie to watch with your all family . Hats off to Rishi Kapoor. One last time before he said good bye to us. Paresh Rawal, another excellent acting. Thanks to all the people who believed in this movie and finished it. Would have been nice to watch it in a theatre or multiplex and it surely deserved a theatrical release.

A must watch - Rishiji's last movie
bahniman-114181 April 2022
Since my dad retired way back in 2016, he has been trying his hands on everything. Never sitting idle at home with lots of ideas on his mind he would try this and that. Watching this movie I can fully empathise with Rishiji's character. We should always encourage our parents to do things they always wanted even if they fail, it's alright, atleast they tried. Much like how they would do for us when we were kids. This movie is a must watch for all whose parents have retired recently or have been retired for a while. I have stop underestimating my parents and so should you. Let them underestimate you cuz that's just them being parents. We are still kids in their eyes. Plus, Rishi Kapoor looks very cute in this movie.
