My reaction to the finale was simply "huh". Plainly - well that happened. At least I made my way through the season, though I did it by only paying half attention to some of it. I really thought there would be more shocking twists in the last episode and not end so easily. The reveal that Simon was not what he seemed was obvious from the beginning, thought I thought at first it was going to be more of a case of Stockholm Syndrome between him and "Farouk". Finding out Reece was a bad guy with still a couple episodes to go seemed ripe to find out later that was a misdirect. The real twist was that, nope, he was was the bad guy. Was The Brotherhood just wiped out in the end? Father Chuck was just always some weird buddy of Danny and didn't have a secret past? The last episode was such a letdown. And the music made parts way too hokey to to feel triumphant.
I just wish this series was edited to go faster and so be more riveting. But also it needed to go slower to actually develop characters to where you care about them, plus to tie up loose ends. It was definitely gorgeous to look at and I don't fault the actors. Seems like a ton of money was spent.
This could be a case where the production team took for granted that making a great action movie/show is actually a refined skill, not just something any director/writer can crank out. Hollywood seems to look down it's nose at action as a genre, but it seems easier dreamt up than produced. In the right hands, this could have been amazing.
I feel like this is something custom made for me to love. I was already a fan of several of the actors. I love Egyptology and Raiders of the Lost Ark knockoffs (even really bad Scifi Channel style knockoffs). I love action movies and mysteries. This was made for me. Such a let down it was so generic and sort of boring.
