Surprisingly fun
muamba_eats_toast21 July 2020
I almost didn't watch because of the poor reviews on her but was so glad I did. Yes the shows absolutely ridiculous and a total cringe fest at times but if you embrace the silliness and don't take it so seriously the show is absolutely hilarious. Most of the series I couldn't stop laughing.

Funny and gripping
mikemikeparker3 May 2020
Great fun. The two lead actors are always superb and here they get the chance to show off their comic skills. Great chemistry between them - and a great sub-plot about infidelity.

What was surprising was the criminal plot, which was gripping. My wife and I loved it and can't wait for Season 2.

I really enjoyed this! Something very different!
PinkPuffin27 October 2021
I wasn't sure about this initially, but I've now watched season 1 and 2, and I really like it!

Mixing comedy, with a police drama is difficult, and yes, very often the situations are absurd, but you just have to sit back, and not take it too seriously. Personally, I don't think it's laugh out loud funny, but it is amusing, all the way through. With one of the cops being brought back from the dead, with AI, it is completely unpredictable, as his AI system doesn't work particularly well! Lol

I love the two main actors, and despite it being a comedy, their genuine friendship is heartwarming, touching, and very believable.

It is rated 15, but I would say, that that rating is mainly based on strong language. There are shootings, and injuries, but it definitely isn't gory, and the violence is not extreme, as it seems to be with the majority of cop shows nowadays. I can't watch anything that shows extreme violence or gore, so this was a joy to watch, as there was nothing that I had to hide behind a cushion for!

It looks like a 3rd season has been commissioned, so I look, forward to that!

Genius comedy
aem_yr12 May 2020
Genius comedy writing with three actors at the top of their game: Daniel Mays, Stephen Graham and Anna Maxwell-Martin. I loved this series - a relentless pounding of laughs with visual slap-stick, pure farce and brilliantly quotable gag-a-minute dialogue. Enjoy.

Potential?
stevenkeithjones10 May 2020
It's early days and a bit raw but I do think it has promise. The humour is good, it just needs sharper stories but I do live the actors. Mays is great but Stephen Graham is really good!

Clearly divides people- the idiots from those who get humour
nicolajdavies4 September 2021
If you like a bit of silly, and a bit of subversive, and a bit of ironic cliche, you should like this. The 3 leads are good as always; Daniel Mays, I would say, outdoes Stephen Graham, which is hard to do (I really laughed out loud at the drug and tazer scenes). I really enjoyed it. Those that didn't have limited mental resources....only my opinion.

Well worth watching.
Sleepin_Dragon7 March 2021
Treat this show for what it is, a comedy, crime series with a twist. The exploits of John Major, a Detective brought back from the dead with AI, who begins a journey to discover who killed him.

It's zany, crazy fun, it delivers lots of laughs, and some very human moments. It gets better as it progresses, and series one ends with a truly marvellous conclusion, best of the lot.

Mays and Graham work amazingly well together, at times it feels as if the pair could burst into laughter at any point. Anna Maxwell Martin and Tracy Anne Overman are both great too.

It is very well produced, it looks great, and has some decent specific effects too.

I was so pleased so see a second series had been commissioned, it deserves a longer run, 8/10.

Decent series 1-2, 3 has huge issues
chris_rowe-881-1688204 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed the first two series although I can see why some people didn't, it doesn't move particularly fast and the humour is a bit slapstick but it worked with me, I laughed constantly.

Whilst obviously futuristic and not realistic there was a glaring issue in season 3 that just constantly annoyed me. The premise was John has been hacked and his eyes were reporting back to someone unknown whilst a serial killer is in full swing. Yet at every stage after knowing about his issues, carver, parfitt and others constantly let him look at everything even though it could be a massive detriment, it was infuriating and illogical, it was just really annoying and felt like such a huge glaring oversight in the writing. Shame. It was a good season just ruined by silly writing.

Omg painful
iainface7129 April 2020
Looking forward to this. Love Stephen Graham. When it started I realised it was going for a sort of 'touch of cloth' comedic type program which is very different to his latter roles. This though is like it's been written by a 12 year old. Might appeal to a different audience but not anyone I know.

Think Naked Gun meets Million Dollar Man

Two great character actors who aren't afraid to laugh at themselves. Been a huge fan of Stephen Graham since Snatch and Daniel Mays career I've followed keenly since Line of Duty.

At no point should this be taken seriously. Just sit down relax and treat the show as it should be treated, plain silly fun.

Brilliant!

Funny, but...
jacquelinepaull21 August 2022
Basically the humour is outweighed by the constant arguing.

There's a decent laugh but either side of it the arguments kill off any lasting humour. Which is a shame because it could be great.

Do yourself a favour - stay away
DoubtfulBadger29 April 2020
I was looking forward to this. I've always rated both lead actors. But the script is AWFUL. Most jokes are telegraphed well in advance and then take a long time to die. One minute John Major has a database bigger than the internet but the next he can't recognise everyday objects.

Not funny at all.
henrybrown-terry4 May 2020
How all these great actors were persuaded to get involved in this travesty is beyond belief. It is NOT remotely funny at all. Is it supposed to be a comedy drama/satire/slapstick? It just not work at all on any level as it is presented. Go watch Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) instead.

Mays and Graham hold this together and are very funny, the supporting cast are a real let down.

Oddly Hilarious
stacisam-663-94520316 May 2020
This show is odd because the three main characters who are supposed to be the funniest are actually the least funny thing about the show. The two main detectives and the doctor provide a strange slapstick element to the show that is often unfunny and exaggerated. ALL of the side characters bring laugh out loud comedy to an otherwise, if left to the main three I mentioned previously, unfunny, average show. But my god, if your patient, the laughs are worth it.

So disappointed
I really wanted to like this but if just missed the mark on so many points. It's not quite funny enough to be comedy, not quite clever enough to be satire. The promise of Stephen Graham and Daniel Mays in a dark comedy was really appealing, but it just doesn't live up to expectation. I can see what they were trying to do with it, can see it's potential, but it just doesn't seem like it's going anywhere. It's jokes just makes you just groan rather than laugh.

Funny, clever & silly jokes
vaoxley9 May 2020
I loved this series, it was definitely tongue in cheek humour made equally funnier with the two main characters played by Stephen Graham & Daniel Mays. These two actors usually end up playing serious roles so it was great to see them in this silly comedy. Its obvious that the jokes are so bad it makes it all the funnier. I loved it & hope there will be a second series.

A few good one liners but they don't save this car crash. Stephen Graham and Daniel May are far better than this.

Brilliantly silly and great comic timing. Humour kind of reminds me of Toast of London. Hope another series comes along soon.

Woefully bad
repomonkey10 April 2021
I was attracted to this series by the quality of the cast and the central concept of the show with its sci-fi elements and I had high expectations for it. Unfortunately what I got was one of the worst shows I've seen in a long time - cringe-worthy, embarassing, utterly unfunny and really, really, cheap. Maybe the production team had no money left after they paid the well-known cast, but the setting, the sets, the special effects (or rather the lack of them) made this look like something the BBC would have made on a budget in the early '80s. Stephen Graham seems to make the best of the dreadful dialogue, but Daniel Mays is just awful in this - never mind chewing the scenery, he eats the entire set.

The script appears to have been written by a couple of 13 year olds on a sugar-rush after one too many Red Bulls and the production levels fall short of Sylvester McCoy era Dr Who. I'm a forgiving sort of a bloke when it comes to TV shows and films - I'll put up with all sorts of plot holes and wonky acting if I'm even mildly entertained. But this show is just dire in pretty much every single regard. Never mind Code 404 Not Found, this show's 400 Bad Request.

Disappointing and Embarassing
pfleury-976516 May 2020
Stephen Graham and Daniel Mays - 2 of those very rare actors where you think 'whatever this is about, it must be good because they're in it". What a disappointment though, which has shattered that view. Why oh why have they put their names to such a weak script? The storyline is childish and they all look like they're going through the motions of 'doing comedy'. Couldn't even finish the first episode. I really hope they shelve any plans of a 2nd series and get back to doing what they're good at.

Marmite
emmammartin16 May 2020
Marmite. You'll either love it or hate it. Much of the humour is too subtle for many people and you have to be quick to pick them up. I loved it and can't wait for series 2. Great performances by the two main actors in rolled totally different from what they've done in the past.

I wanted to enjoy this, but...,,
paulcook33313 September 2020
As with many other reviewers, I wanted to watch this purely based on the two lead actors, but I couldn't get past the first episode, not for me unfortunately. I think this will be a case of marmite, you'll either really enjoy it or not at all. Gave two stars for the lead actors.
