Tamara is a professionally trained classical dancer,which this story revolves around. Tamara is a woman coming to terms with never having the opportunity to achieve her potential. After the death of her mother, Tamara is forced to return back to her hometown, a small town in Northern Ontario. Tamara's younger brother, Lamar, a dark-skinned black man whose had to leave his career as a professional football player due to a career-ending injury. Both Tamara and Lamar are adrift, Lamar is resentful of his sister because of her fair skin, feeling that she has more privilege and entitlement than he could ever have as a black man. Both brother and sister try to find a way to stay as a family, but tensions arise with the introduction of Lawrence, a man returning from Afghanistan after eight years in the military.
