I think this was my favourite episode to date, it had a great story, some fun moments, and a bit of depth into Miranda's character, great that we got to see her and Max get closer as characters. A very clever story, well written, it could have easily been a Death in Paradise script.

Al Weaver was great, nice to see him outside of Grantchester. He was in good company, the case here were excellent. 8/10

A surprisingly good episode!

When it started, "The Mallorca Files" was not a show to be impressed with, but after the first two episodes, the series has got progressively better. "Number One Fan" is a very good episode and easily the best of the season so far.

Let's start with the good aspects, shall we?

. The production values are great as usual. The music fits the scenery and the acting's good all around.

. The story is very compelling with lots of suspects, intrigue and witty- dialogue.

But....

. I was not so impressed by the direction. There are some weird camera angles and the editing is rough in some places.

, Also thought the solution (Otto killed his sister and dressed up like her) was bit too obvious from the start.

Overall, a very good fun.

8/10 HK.

It starts out with a lady on a train. After the train emerges from the tunnel the lady is gone.

Max and Miranda investigate the missing lady, a famous fashion model Valentina Caligari. Everyone associated with Valentina has something to hide.

Her partner is pregnant and worried something bad has happened to her. It seems there was a strange man on the train who might had been stalking her.

Miranda is still uptight, here she displays signs of claustrophobia which gets in the way of the investigation. Max also winds her up by implying that their boss is celebrating a landmark birthday.

This was a nice mystery, there are enough clues laid throughout so in the end you think it was rather obvious.

If Mr. Bean were a male superdupermodel

Julian Looman is the funniest man on television! Poor Al Weaver, going from James Norton to Tom Brittney to Max, but he was EXCELLENT in a contemporary character role. This was the best ep. of the series thus far, comedy cornucopia with great character development of Miranda & her relationship with Max, love that Inez was humanized (a little) as well. This show may have been derivative to begin with but it is evolving into something unique because of its talent & locale. More operatic Max, pls!

Zoolander in Mallorca

Al Weaver, famous for his role in Grantchester, guest stars as Richard Webb in Number One Fan. I'm enjoying watching Mallorca Files and sure, a lot of it is grounded in unrealism but so what, Mallorca Files ain't a documentary. Also if I wanted the grind of noir drama and all I'd tune into a Scandinavian series. Anyway, here there's the mystery of the missing model on the train and we wonder where she (well it's more complicated than that) disappeared.

I look forward to seeing the rest of season one and then season two, which I understand was shortened due to the pandemic, but thankfully there's a season three.
