Excellent.

You can't have a Spanish set crime drama without talk of bullfights and matadors, and Dancing in the Morning serves up a Mediterranean treat. I particularly liked the tone of this episode, it was pretty serious, with a really cracking storyline. There was of course a nice touch of humour, and a few scenes where the two Detectives are becoming a little closer, the scene of the pair dancing together was great. Best part had to be the bull fight, they could have easily gone down the Carry on Camping route, but they didn't, they kept it realistic.

Very good indeed. 8/10

A very solid entry!

Warning: Spoilers
After the previous entry to the series, I was really looking forward to the next episode "Death in the Morning". In my opinion, this episode was a let-down after the very good episode about the DJ, but it's still a solid entry to the series.

Let's start with the good aspects, shall we?

. The production values are great as usual for the show. The music fits the scenery, which is indeed gorgeous. The acting's pretty good too. Julian Looman and Elen Rhys work wonders together. Really liked the setting to the story as well.

. The story has its moments. There are some nice red herrings here and there. Also, loved the dancing scene between the main characters. The humor was spot on in this episode. The identity of the murderer (Cati) was clever and the ending felt pretty satisfying too.

That being said...

. I wish to have been a lot more compelled by the narrative. At first I was quite bored with "Death in the Morning", but fortunately the story started to pick up about 15 minutes in.

Overall, good, but not great.

7/10 HK.

Death in the Morning

The pre credits scene started off in the setting of a bullring and finished with a gruesome death of writer Nicholas Mountford.

As Mountford was British, Max and Miranda investigate. Mountford seems to have been killed by a matador and Mountford was known for his anti bullfighting views.

Bullfighting was banned in Mallorca leaving some heartbroken and financially poor.

Max and Miranda dance the paso doble and in one instance verge on becoming closer.

A nice mystery and again wonderful photography. Good use was made of the bullring and Max very nearly got on the point.

Bullish

Warning: Spoilers
Here in Death in the Morning, from the first season of The Mallorca Files, the opening death was gruesome and operatic at the same time, and it's not something I expected. Anyway, here the dynamic duo of Miranda Blake (played by British-English actress Elen Rhys) and Max Winter (played by Austrian-German actor Julian Looman) set out to investigate, and here they venture out to Cazador in the wild interior of Mallorca, so it's a bit different to the hustle and bustle of Mallorca, so we get to admire the country scenery and ponder the ethics of bullfighting with the matadors and all, so much to ponder init.
