Re-establishing the main characters
eelcostuy19 March 2021
The first episode does a great job of diving into the main characters, showing where they are right now. In a way it refreshes your mind, so you remember what they're all about, but it also elaborates and expands upon their lives. Great mcu captain america movies vibe!

A Surprisingly GREAT Start
Habibi-Universe19 March 2021
WHAT?! The first episode of 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' is over just like THAT! 42 minutes (without the credits) that flew by so fast! This 1st episode was surprisingly GREAT! Genuine emotion, great and grounded character studies make for an extremely satisfying continuation of the story after Endgame! The MCU keeps surprising me! I thought this would just be a somewhat generic action show, but nope, this is truly high quality with such a real-world feel! Great, GREAT episode! Can't wait for next Friday!!!

Solid start

Great action at the start and a solid episode in total. It slowed down after the first scene and the ending was pretty predictble.

Setting the tone

Warning: Spoilers
Yep. Setting the tone. Reestablishing the characters. Nice cameo by Don Cheadle. This episode was really grounded, and was your typical MCU action. Can't wait to see it develop.

off to a great start
DjDarkrai1019 March 2021
This premiere was fantastic. The opening fight scene was wonderfully kinetic and proves that the aerial combat is going to be great.

We also got some great emotional beats with the characters, and a couple other fantastic fight scenes.

My only complaint is it's too short (the 7 minute credits attack once more) but overall this is off to a great start and i can't wait for more!

Average opener
mental-micky19 March 2021
Opens with a decent action scene then reverts to a slow burner for the rest of the ep.

A few seeds were sewn for the direction it's gonna take, but really not alot happened in this ep.

For me, the end scene didn't really pack the punch I'm guessing they wanted it to.

Nice paced episode to begin this show. Very good action scenes, sowing the foundations of our protagonists, new characters and enemies. Hope to see how it develops and gets better each week.

Falcon is awesome...racial drama is lame
garabedian12330 March 2021
The first 15 minutes are awesome. Falcon is awesome, i never knew. But after that it gets really slow with Bucky being depressed. And Falcon can't get a loan? How dumb. How far are the writers willing to suspend disbelief? He is a world wide celebrity. He is recognized everywhere. China, Usa..anywhere. He has a job with the air force flying super experimental flying suits. And Saved the world and he cant get a loan because he is black...Puuhhh lease...

So shield has infinte money to build flying ships but doesn't pay the avengers...How stupid do they think we are.

A solid start
snoozejonc19 March 2021
We are introduced to the lives of the title characters a short time after Avengers: Endgame.

I thought this was a pretty good start to the show, with a fairly explosive introduction to one character and what seems like more of a slow psychological burn with the other.

For me so far the story is decent, but I wouldn't describe it as compelling, as it feels like plot threads are just getting started. I found some of the potential themes, using such concepts as the Flag Smashers and the desire for a new Captain America symbol to be more intriguing than the characters themselves, particularly when cast against the highly divided world we live in today. So I think it will be interesting to see where the writers go with it.

As for the new characters that it introduces, such as Sam's family and Bucky's friends, it's a bit early to say if they will add any value to the MCU world, but they all felt genuine and connected to the story in a plausible way.

Regarding the spectacle, as with most MCU products it does action sequences with thrills and top drawer effects.

Performances were good but there didn't seem to be anything hugely challenging for the actors so far.

For me it was a 7.5/10 but I like to round upwards.

Very meh
SHU_Movies19 March 2021
A very meh first episode. There were some really sad, epic and funny moments, but it doesn't make up for most of the episode being boring

Grounded and Relatable

Warning: Spoilers
Really enjoyed this episode. It focused on the daily lives of the characters and the very human struggles they deal with. Some may find that boring but I find it intriguing. Particularly, Bucky's storyline. The therapy scene, him making amends and going on a date. I love it!

New World Order
Prismark1019 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The opening sequence featuring The Falcon showed more promise than the first episode actually delivered.

The series could had been truly cinematic. Showing that a streaming platform could elevate episodic television above that of normal television and cable stations.

Instead it became a slow burn episode after the breathtaking opening that features villain Batroc.

Sam has money worries and is looking for a bank loan along with his sister. Being a superhero for hire doesn't pay enough.

After the blip, the world economy is not doing as well with half the population suddenly returning.

As for The Winter Soldier. Bucky has PTSD issues after decades of being an assassin. Haunted by all those people he killed.

The big surprise was that both Sam and Bucky do not yet meet up.

A nice touch, the first scene is Sam doing the ironing. Iron Man!

Warning: Spoilers
How does a guy with superhuman strength stomp on somebody's head and in the next scene that are more or less fine, they should be dead with a boot crater in their skull and one eye hanging out, terrible directing. Yeah it's only one scene, but it's an action scene, and I expect more realism from marvel.

At one point Falcon says to his sister when talking about getting a loan "you know I don't play with these white folks" and it just made me cringe, why does race need to be written into the lines of every black character, I don't remember 90s Will Smith having cringy out of place race one-liners. Then they head to the bank and to reinforce this weird narrative there is a clueless white guy who rejects their loan, so I guess black guys don't work at banks?

I don't appreciate this writing, it feels very cheap and makes black actors seem like 21st century caricatures of themselves and takes away from their acting. I know it's just one passing line but this cringy trend always happens if the actor is black. The set up and premise of the bank scene could have been done just as easily without that cringe racial undertone.

Or maybe I just don't get it because I'm not American?

I'm not liking the feeling of this show already, lets hope it gets better.

Good job at establishing the life of the two main characters, a nice mix of action and story related sequences.

It was 'okay'
grztxks21 March 2021
Ok, the episode gave me what I expected. Action! Yeah it isn't Wandavision, it more goes back to the classic Marvel movies. This first episode however, I don't know I just didn't like it that much. The acting is great but the show is called 'the falcon and the wintersoldier' and they don't even share one scene together. Yeah this is just the pilot but it could've been better.

A pretty darn good start
maxglen19 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Falcon and the Winter Soldier opens with one hell of an action scene in the vain of Captain America: Winter Soldier and it's awesome. After that it becomes somewhat of a slow burn which I'm not complaining about, I think we actually need that little lull to help us breathe and really get to know these characters behind the scenes, where they've been after everything that's happened and how they go about their lives when there isn't an Avengers level threat to deal with. Both Sam and Bucky's stories are equally heartbreaking for completely different reasons. We see the emergence of a new threat in the form of a radical terrorist group who's true end goal is still unknown. We also are briefly introduced to the US Agent which is dope. It's not perfect but it's pretty brilliant way to open in my opinion and I like how Tony and Steve's passing looms heavily over the show. A strong 8 from me. Thanks for reading :)

Not bad but not good either
cyrax-9274223 March 2021
A very average first episode, apart from the aerial combat and pursuit scene, it was a very slow episode with a lot of boring parts with too much talking and useless characters like Sam's sister that are just there to add drama. I expected more.

Great foundations to a cracking series
russellcowling20420 March 2021
For me anything Bucky/Cap/Sam related is on to a winner anyway. Love the characters and storylines and this, for me was an almost perfect episode to what I'm sure will be a great series.

Different to Wandavision of course, but then what isn't?....... but the pacing after the initial 5-10 minute all action blast was good. We are just building up nicely for future episodes. Can't wait to see the rest

Super lame
MegaMaexn2 April 2021
Nothing super about this episode, just lameness... good action packed start, but then a boring half hour without any direction or promise where the show will go. Doesn't feel like Marvel, more like a poorly copied attempt downloaded off the internet...

Marvel doing political drama?
krkkoala20 March 2021
This episode is a promising start to what could be the most intelligent project marvel has made thus far. It teases us with themes about racism, nationalism, anarchy, and forgiveness. These are serious issues to handle in a canon that is usually more focused on the action spectacle rather than the storytelling. However, marvel is starting in the right direction by developing two characters I never thought I would be invested in. Fingers crossed for the rest of the show!

Boring
supersam577619 March 2021
Between the meaningless action and the dialogue that went nowhere, it felt like no plot was being developed as it crawled forward at a snail's pace. Nothing horribly wrong with it, but definitely nothing great either.

Feels good to see them again
philipglenna-7748319 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The episode starts with an epic action scene, and you can see some of the flying suit jumps were actual jumps from a plane/heli. We see Batroc back at it again for the first time since 2014 (I think)

The rest of the episode has a slower pace and shows us that even though they saved the UNIVERSE, they're not being compensated the way they should be and Sam struggles just to get a freakin' loan, which is sad, but also a great way of showing us they're real people.

Bucky is trying to make amends, and the guy he tries to tell that he actually killed his son is the sweetest, old man I've seen in the MCU, and you really see his struggle, with the nightmare and everything.

All in all this episode made me craving the next one, which is all I could ask for, the only thing I really think Disney+ should do, is to set the actual episode time and not the full time, because we get 1 minute of intro plus the 7 minutes of end-credits (with no mid- or post-credit scenes yet.)

Ending of the episode was very antagonizing because the shield does not belong to that wacko of an imposter, but SAM, another way they show that the governments of the world don't give a s**t about their real heroes...

Unstable World
junaidbadar-1625319 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Solid start of the series with strong performances by the cast. Good build up of the Flag Smashers. Explored the back story of the leads and their Post Blip & Post Endgame struggles. They mixed real life struggles of the POC with the Marvel storyline in a nice way and they will explore this issue even more in the coming episodes. Looking forward on how bucky will tackle with his trauma and how Sam will take the announcement of New Cap & the unjust behavior of the society with him & his community. Also it will be interesting to see how Sharon Carter will fit into the storyline. How the world will response to New Cap. America? Action was really awesome. Supporting cast was good too. All the characters get enough screentime to built their character's narrative. First attack of the Flag Smashers was so cool and the last 10 seconds really started the Fire.
