Bryan Baeumler wasn’t lacking in confidence when he and his wife Sarah Baeumler arrived in Colorado to film the latest season of HGTV’s Rock the Block. With decades of experience building luxury custom homes – and having renovated an entire resort in the Bahamas – the Renovation Island stars were prepared to go all the way in the series, which pits teams of pros from different HGTV shows against each other as they renovate four identical homes and vie to see who can add the most value to the property. But the couple faced stiff competition from their fellow HGTV stars, he shared with Showbiz Cheat Sheet in an interview ahead of the show’s March 6 premiere.

How HGTV’s ‘Renovation Island’ Changed Bryan and Sarah Baeumler’s ‘Perspective on What Is a Problem’
Turns out, renovating the entire damn island was always going to be the easy part. On Season 1 of HGTV’s “Renovation Island,” Bryan and Sarah Baeumler dealt with Hurricane Dorian. And on Season 2, the bad guy was the coronavirus pandemic.
Covid-19 not only shut down the Caerula Mar Club grand opening, it made getting materials for the ongoing renovation impossible. (You think it was tough and expensive getting stuff to your home? Try getting delivery on a remote island in the Bahamas.)
“In Canada and the U.S., lumber prices have doubled, or tripled, in some cases. For our construction business in Canada as well, costs are going up, and you hear homeowners and other companies crying about the price of lumber. And I thought, ‘My God, even at triple the price… it’s still cheaper easier to get your hands on it than on the island,” Bryan Baeumler told...

Home Reno Star Mike Holmes Seals Bell Media Partnership With Super Bowl ‘Holmes Family Effect’ Debut
Mike Holmes is making it right on his biggest scale yet.
The Canadian contractor and TV personality, whose personal motto promises to “make it right,” is preparing to unveil his latest renovation series, “Holmes Family Effect,” on Feb. 7 in the coveted post-Super Bowl timeslot. But it’s the platform his series is debuting on that has media watchers readjusting their own tool belts.
“Holmes Family Effect,” which debuts on Fox later this spring, marks Holmes’ debut on Canadian broadcaster CTV. Parent company Bell Media has been plotting Holmes’ splashy debut since 2019, when it announced the new partnership at its June upfront presentation. The alliance marked Holmes’ first break from HGTV Canada (owned by Bell Media competitor Corus Media) in 16 years. He first debuted on HGTV in 2003 with “Holmes on Homes.”
At HGTV Canada, Holmes starred in nine Canadian original series and specials, amassing more than 21 million Canadian viewers and solidifying...

“Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles” may not have as much interpersonal melodrama as Netflix competitor “Selling Sunset,” but the Bravo series about high-priced real estate and the high-energy personalities who sell it is not lacking for theatrics.
Josh Altman, one of the five “Million Dollar Listing L.A.” stars, told TheWrap that his show’s success actually regenerates its own drama. This cyclical effect is somewhat unique to Altman’s industry, and it probably helps explain how this “Million Dollar Listing” installment is entering its 12th season.
In Episode 1201, Altman and rival Josh Flagg pair up to sell an insane La Jolla home nicknamed “The Razor,” one that is said to have inspired Tony Stark’s resident in the “Ironman” movies and comes with a price tag of $30 million. Altman and Flagg’s cooperation here is unusual. They’re usually battling each other — as well as co-stars Tracy Tutor, James...

“Bargain Mansions” host Tamara Day didn’t “expect to cry” on her episode of Hgtv’s latest coronavirus-era show “Design at Your Door,” but she did — and more than once. You might too.
For Night 1 of the new series — a season she guest stars on twice — Day was tasked with conceptualizing, designing, shopping for, and guiding a family via webcam in redoing their guest room. Due to Hgtv’s partnership on the program, the Kansas City native who is used to renovating mansions had to buy all the supplies on Walmart.com.
Day told TheWrap she “was really pleasantly surprised” by the “variety” of items on the inexpensive big box store’s website: “It took me longer than it should have because I got sucked into it,” she said of the furniture and decor decisions.

Life isn’t Always better in the Bahamas.
That’s a lesson Hgtv’s “Renovation Island” stars Bryan and Sarah Baeumler learned the hard way when the Canadian couple moved their four kids to the tropical paradise to rehab an abandoned 50-year-old beachfront resort and were faced with both a natural disaster and a global pandemic during the process.
The Baeumlers were renovating the 10-acre property when Hurricane Dorian devastated the Bahamas last summer. Fortunately for Bryan and Sarah, South Andros Island was mostly spared. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the deeply intertwined lives of many of their Bahamian employees.
