The Jolliffe brothers were inspired by a number of films, and directors both visually and thematically, these include Ingmar Bergman, Andrei Tarkovsky, Martin Scorsese, John Carpenter and Michael Mann.
The part of Juno was written specifically for Leila Bartell.
The film won an award for best production design at the MP Film Awards. This was particularly pleasing for the Jolliffe brothers who had very specific looks intended for each individual location as well as very considered variations between reality and the flashbacks/nightmares. Even with a virtually zero budget the film was approached with very distinct visuals in mind, often achieved with simple solutions such as a 50p red light bulb during one nightmare scene.
Award winning film and also awarded for Best director and editor. Has had multiple film festival recognition.
Oliver Jolliffe has practiced filmmaking and honed his skills for the multiple roles he takes on since he was a teenager. There have been many experimental films and loved projects that were made yet kept in a 'vault' as such but 'the dark recess' marks Olivers first official film to be with the intent of playing to people on release and film festivals. It also marks the beginnings of further projects that Oliver aspires to do along with his writer /producer Tom Jolliffe.
