Ring of Deceit Parts 1-3
Taggart and his team are hunting for a serial rapist called The Mechanic. He disables his victim's cars before attacking them.
The latest victim is a young woman called Julie Smith, a research scientist. Her body was discovered in the city dump but she was not raped.
DS Jardine appears in a current affairs show where he faces hostile questions regarding the women of Glasgow being in constant peril.
A suspect bought in for questioning works for his family jeweller's firm. His car was seen near the area where Julie Smith was last seen alive.
The next victim. Jamie O'Hare is male who has been shot dead. He worked for a waste disposal firm and had been in contact with the same television current affairs team that Jardine had participated in. O'Hare also had links through his family with Irish terrorist groups.
As the story progresses, it becomes clear that this is just more than catching The Mechanic. Not all the killings have a simple explanation. Otherwise why have shots of a dodgy waste disposal firms and the Jewish jeweller's.
Like other Taggarts there is a streak of black humour, you also need to punch in the least likely suspects and this one gets rather convoluted. It is an an enjoyable adventure with good pacing.
