A classic story that unfolds at its own pace
ConfusedRoulette23 December 2018
The movie is a compilation of short stories blended together to make a beautiful classic cinema about the societal problems faced by women in villages. The story is set in a small village somewhere near Kundapura. Ammachi is a happy-go-lucky girl and the story revolves around her friends and family. The language used throughout the movie is pure Kunda Kannada, with a lot of slangs, which can be a bit difficult to understand but the english subtitles will help. The story unfolds at its own pace with a beautiful narrative and some intense moments. But this makes the screenplay slower and makes this movie more of an art form. The cinematography is of the finest quality whether it is the Tulasi Pooje celebration or the Thottilu Shaastra ritual, every scene is beautifully captured, along with splendid performances by all the actors. Overall this movie is for those people who like to savour each moment in a slow manner with a lot of patience, almost like watching a play.

The movie beautifully entwined blend of classic storytelling and a pace which kept it authentic and Intriguing. The screenplay is top class, camera work breath taking and the acting extremely real !!! It showcases the real world with honesty and attempts to show the real part of patriarchy as it unfolds!!!

Eligible for win the national award
Usually the movies depict the point of views of only 2 to 3 characters. Whereas, Ammachi Yemba Nenapu depicts the opinions, individual feelings and point of views of at least 5 characters in it, which is great.

The story of the movie is very close to real life and most of the incidents shown in the movie have happened in reality.

Few weak points of the film are: 1. The film has no proper ending. At last Ammachi says "Venkapayya satta" (Venkapayya died). There is no information on how he died; if Ammachi killed Venkapayya, then what about the police case...; how Ammachi got money to come back from Tirupathi... etc.

2. Akku talks properly sometimes. Looking at this, the viewers think that she is not mad. But overall character is shown as mad in the movie. Her characterization is not properly depicted in the screenplay. The role confuses the audiences.

3. The story of the film unfolds around Kundapura area. In this area, the boiled rice (brown rice) is consumed only by people. While offering to god during festival, only white rice is offered. Whereas in the film, boiled rice is offered to god during Diwali (Baleendra pooja) which is wrong as per rituals.
