Five Men in the Quartet
Here's another of the Edison Kinetophone shorts that the company issued in 1913. They're singing on a stage decorated with an anvil and horseshoes, when the mailman delivers the mail, so they sing a song about him. Then Shirley Mason (credited under her real name as Leonie Flugrath) enters with their lunch, so they sing a song about her.
It's a nice little short that shows off the technology very well. They sing in choral style that suggests a barbershop quartet, even though there are five of them. A close observer will notice the care in positioning the actors, since the recording rig was bulky and immobile.
Because the cylinders the recording was taken from are worn, there is a lot of hiss in the soundtrack.
