Truly a masterpiece of modern cartoons, and edited recently to address the most common complaint about this episode (PLEASE READ THAT PART!)
Reckno6422 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I created this account just to write this review. The episode was just THAT good! I've had my gripes with the show since I started watching in 2016 which range from occasional animation problems to its picking up steam only to stop for a slice of life episode when things are getting good (not really against them, just wish they were placed a little better in the series). But this episode was just fantastic in every every way. The show gets hate for the reasons listed above (and many more) but episodes like this.....MAKE UP FOR ITS FLAWS ENTIRELY!!! (Okay maybe not ENTIRELY but episodes like this make the show worthwhile in my opinion). I hope more people begin to give this show a chance cause this episode was the best thing to air on Cartoon Network for a LONG time. They even stepped up the animation in this hour long special! I grew up on classics like Teen Titans and Powerpuff Girls and still appreciate those shows, but Steven Universe is easily a classic CN show of this decade and this episode proves that. No spoilers, I recommend you see this episode for yourself! It's even more special if you've been watching the show up to this point! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and came close to crying at the very end. Already wondering if this would've been the proper finale to the show, but hey I'll wait and see what else this show is ready to offer me!

EDIT: The music too. It'a just outstanding in every way. I've always loved this show's music and it was some of the best in this episode!

EDIT 2/20/2020: I decided to come back to this after a year as I have seen many of the episode's criticisms, but especially the one that claims this episode was "Sympathetic to the space Nazi's, which is bad". To that I have to say, I don't think that was the point of this episode. Like at all. Yeah I understand the frustration that is the fact that these space dictators that did many horrible things are going to get away with it all (and trust me I want them to face SOME consequences too), but....what exactly are Steven and company going to do to enforce that? White Diamond is quite literally GOD in this show. How exactly are you gonna punish God? There is quite a power difference between the Diamonds and The Crystal Gems, and I just don't know how this conflict could've been resolved better. Sure they COULD'VE engaged in battle (and I mean they kinda did.....) but how well do you think that will go??? My guess is.....not well. Like at all. Would've been a one-sided massacre no doubt.

In my opinion, peaceful resolution like what we saw in this episode was the only way this series could've ended happily. I get that "space dictators" probably can't really be reasoned with, but it can't hurt to try.....right? And If he hadn't gone to homeworld to try to resolve things, nothing would've changed. None of the corrupt gems would be healed or any of that, which would be unsatisfying for everyone I think.

Another point I want to touch on is the Diamonds "redemption" which I don't agree with either. At no point are they "forgiven" for the atrocities they committed. But Steven and the gems realize that there isn't anything that can be done to undo the past, only change the present and future, and that's what they set out to accomplish: Make the world a better place for everyone RIGHT NOW and the future, and that's what they did!

It also really brings home the message of "it's never too late to change". Nothing will EVER forgive the atrocities they commit over several millennia, but what are you gonna do, just let them keep doing it? There were only 2 options to end the conflict: Go to war and hope to win (which like I said is highly unlikely) or establish a peaceful agreement. The latter is obviously the better choice as A: It has better chances of succeeding (even if the odds still aren't "favorable" necessarily) and B: No one has to get hurt. War has only one way of ending: With many casualties on both sides. The show has established a very anti-war message from very early on. In Season 1 "Rose's Scabbard" Garnet says herself to Steven that the Strawberry war (the war where the colonizing of Earth was overthrown and corruption of the rest of the gems on Earth occurred) was a horrible experience that NO ONE should ever have to go through again. It may have been necessary to establish peace on Earth at the time, but no one should ever "want" to go to war. So that option was likely out of the question and only deemed a last resort to The Crystal Gems. The peaceful ending we got was the best way for the show to end, and I am surprised so few people were able to see that......

Well that's just my opinion after all. I still thought this episode was a masterpiece and sent home an important message of resolving conflicts peacefully rather than resorting to war where many will be killed regardless. I hope you all understand! 10/10 Just an all around beautiful episode! :D

Sometimes even someone who is busy watching art films and boring modern movies gets to indulge in pure joy. This is what "Change Your Mind" was to me. I haven't felt this way in years. For anyone who has managed to stick with SU from the beginning, this is the payoff for years of filler.

An Absolute Masterpiece.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode has officially raised the bar for animation TV episodes, along-side many others. Everything about this episode is incredible. From how the story was handled, to how much effort was put into this episode. The Crew behind this show truly put all they could into this episode, and it really shows.

Not only did this episode showcase things i've been dreaming of since the very beginning of this show, but this episode practically resolved almost everything the show had unanswered. My heart was pounding throughout the course of this, because this was mind-blowing in how good it was. If you have not seen the episode for yourself, please watch it as soon as you can. it's THAT GOOD.

The best show ever gets the best episode ever
RubenGoMoRadioboyplus22 January 2019
At this point Steven Universe is not only the best animated show. With this last (?) episode Steven goes to the top of the best TV shows list.

Don't you believe me? Just watch it. Don't be afraid of it a cartoon, or to it having a lot of funny relaxed episodes that seems out of place (you will be surprised. Everything in this show is there for a deep narrative reason. Even the most little detail). Just watch the whole series if you wan to see the best show ever made for TV. Not kidding. You will not regret.

Masterpiece on every aspect.

EVERY SINGLE COMMERCIAL BREAK KILLED ME
rblxshootingstar23 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was amazing.. Though those commercial breaks made me die a little inside. From Steven and Garnet's fusion and then being stomped on to White Diamond removing Steven's gem, I was on edge throughout the entire episode. The animation during the entire episode just took a huge step up, especially when Steven and his gem were separated and then reunited. Every time I watch it makes me tear up because of how heartwarming and happy it makes me. The expressions on their faces are more flawless than White Diamond thought she was!

It has issues that SU fans can't see
jebyvyson26 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
If you enjoyed this episode, good for you. Many Steven Universe fans will love this episode due to it's soundtrack, visual art style, and animation. Heck, I enjoy this episode myself (just a little bit), but I'm not going to ignore the writing of the episode like most fans do. I have a problem about the gems forgiving the diamonds. The diamonds are the ones who tries to take over planets and have destroyed countless of gems and this episode is unforgiven. In my opinion, Rebecca Sugar seems a bit obsess with anime, she turned this whole show into a anime without a good story. I get making visual art style makes your show better, but it lacks good linear storytelling. I mean, making White Diamond, the biggest gem of the whole show we been waiting, be forgiven for her actions...because of feelings. It not just White Diamond, it's also Yellow and Blue, too. Listen: "YOU CAN'T BE SATIFYED WITH PEOPLE'S ACTIONS BECAUSE OF THEIR FEELINGS." That's some SJW stuff right there (and it's no surprise that almost everything in this show is like that.) Also, my next problem is that it's rushed and seeing new fusions were cool but not interesting to watch. This episode makes it feel like this is the last episode of Steven Universe, but there's one more season coming out so I don't know how is that going to work. It's a okay episode, but once you been paying attention to the story, it has issues.

A real disappointment
leopma13 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
As said in other reviews, it was a rushed ending, the actions of some characters did not match what was pre-established for them. The "Redemption" of diamonds was just a 3 minute speech given by Steven. The biggest antagonist of the series barely had a screen time of 4 minutes, several things that changed the pre-established canon were done. I can't stress enough how much this ending was a disappointment to such an amazing show.

Framboos22 January 2019
Definitely one of my favourite episodes! Seeing White Diamond's powers was awesome and terrifying at the same time. The Diamond's reaction to Steven being, well, Steven, and finally understanding him was so important. The last couple of minutes really felt like closure from the last 5 seasons, so I'm wondering what next season and the movie will be about!

BEST EPISODE EVER!
lukuswolf22 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This is the best episode of Steven Universe EVER! Everything in this episode is what I wanted! I love Peridots' and Lapis' new outfits and stars (they're my favorite characters now.), the fusions (Obsidian was awesome!), and the ending was an emotional rollercoaster that we see the corrupted gems now healed along with Jasper. I love the crystal gems' new outfits better including Lapis and Peridot because it suit their personalities more. This is my new favorite episode along with Reunited. Can't wait for the movie and season 6! Steven Universe is STILL the best to me!

A heart warming episode
lilliangordiana23 January 2019
What I just watched made me cry. This episode had everything I always wanted from a Steven Universe episode. I am so glad that we got this ending for the season and oh boy, it was brilliant. Steven is one of the gratest role models in cartoons, not just for kids but for everyone. In this episode we saw it clearly and probably we all found something from us in this episode. Gems were great, storyline was great, everything was great. 10 out of 10. I hope to see more like this episode in the future from different cartoons, this episode was too inspirational.

The only part I hate about this is that it's over
pledgerock10 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I cried a whole lot at this finale. It was absolutely perfect in every way. I thought there was another season and then SU Future and didn't realize this was the last ep of the original run. So when it was over it really hit me. It felt like a finale. I love how all the gems had a perfect redemption arc and the final scene with Steven being separated from his gem was so emotional. There were a few questions/theories I had that were never answered or explained but I guess that's fine. Seeing all the fusions especially the four of them together for the first time was so cool, I SCREAMED at my TV. This show is so well done and cute and emotional and I can't believe it's over.

Thank god there's Future and the movie. After that's over I don't know what I'll do.

Beautiful and emotional
politicalfisheyeball28 January 2019
What a wonderful show. From the first episode to now, I've seen every characters growth and their character development, and every moment has made me fall in love with this show. Each scene was created with amazing quality, smooth transitions, and the emotional impact it had was truly inspiring. If this is the shows last episode, I wouldn't even care because this episode was just so great.

Speechless (for all the wrong reasons).
tgrgjii29 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
(I know this is going to get down voted by the swarm of braindead Steven Universe cultists, but whatever)

This episode proved one thing in my mind: Rebecca Sugar doesn't care about plot consistency. This whole episode was fandom pandering to an embarrassing degree, and after Sugar realized she actually had a story to write just hastily rushed a conclusion. Nobody is complaining because the new fusions and new forms are just a pacifier given to the fans. So that they don't question the Diamonds, so they don't question Steven, so that they don't question anything.

White Diamond getting redeemed was the last straw for me. I tried to stay calm when Blue and Yellow got redeemed in Reunited, I tried staying calm when Steven was revealed to be Pink Diamond in a Single Pale Rose. I can't stay calm now. This episode tries so hard to paint White Diamond as misunderstood. Tries to paint White Diamond as sympathetic after losing Pink, tried so hard to make her seem worthy of redemption, and it's just so disgusting. White Diamond will never answer for the gem war that killed millions, the forced fusion experiments, the fusion in the Earth's core (which is made up of MILLIONS of semi conscious gems forced to turn into a monster), the two separate acts of genocide upon her own people, mind controlling innocent gems and disfiguring them for life. She will never face trial for any of those atrocities. Blue and Yellow can at least have the excuse of 'White Diamond forced me to', but White Diamond has no excuse. She is literally the wrath of homeworld in one gem. She created all gems, she created the army, the soldiers, her fellow Diamonds, and she had the last say in everything. And the show tries handwaving all of that away as 'oops won't happen again!' or 'that was because nobody reached out!'. The Diamonds are literal space Nazi's, from genociding other gems they see as flawed or impure, to performing disgusting tests on their forms. And, even with all of this behind her, even with White Diamond not having any excuse on WHY she did that other than she is a pure and unfiltered fascist dictator, she is forgiven. The fact that this show can depict fascism so clearly only to have the closest example to Hitler being kissed and apologized to is so gross. All these seasons of hype and speculation for this? Disgusting.

Other than that, what do I say? The fights were alright, the James Baxter scene was the best thing in the episode, Lapis and Peridot arriving made no sense and was only there to show off their new forms, Yellow and Blue having a pity party bored me to no tomorrow. I want to be nice, I really do, so this gets a 4/10 when the animation and fun scenes are taken into account. The episode mostly played out like every other arc, but this time Steven got off his fat butt and did something pivotal. I stayed with this show since 2014. God, how long I waited, for the Diamonds, for homeworld, for an epic climax. I guess I wished for too much. I am dissatisfied, disgusted, exausted, pained...

But here is one feeling I am left with after watching this episode, that will stick with me throughout the rest of the series:

Disappointment.

I truly have no words to express how amazing this season finale was!!!
nicolebalicki28 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Although this episode was a season finale rather than a series finale, it closed almost every plotline the show has been building towards (ex. the corrupted gems arc) in such a beautiful way. One thing that I really loved in this episode was that we finally got to see the fusion between Steven and Pearl (Rainbow Quartz 2.0), Steven and Garnet (Sunstone), as well as the fusion between the four Crystal gems (Obsidian) all of which were so amazing to see in the span of a few minutes. The bit of animation drawn by James Baxter; who animated for films such as, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast, was so clean and well animated it almost felt like that scene came right out of a Disney film. And closing this wonderful finale off with a song by series creator Rebbeca Sugar titled, "Change your Mind" closed this arc so beautifully to the point where it brought me to tears. Overall this season finale was so amazing and I can't wait for what this show does next with the Steven Universe movie and in the coming seasons!!!
