Gossamer Folds (2020) wasdirected by Lisa Donato.

Tate (Jackson Robert Scott) is a 12-year-old boy who has just moved into a new neighborhood. He doesn't have any friends, and there's an obvious tension between his parents.

His next door neighbors include Gossamer, portrayed by Alexandra Grey. She's a transgender woman, who is gifted with artistic design talent. She knows the world and its dangers. She and Tate become bonded friends.

Except for the strange (to me) ending, the movie worked well. Tate's father is a bully, and his mom isn't perfect, but neither of them is a stereotype.

What makes this movie exceptional is the excellent acting by Scott and Grey. Grey is, indeed, a transgender woman, so she knows what that's like in real life. She brings her knowledge to the film so we can all see it.

Gossamer Folds was shown at ImageOut (virtually), Rochester's fine LGBTQ film festival. It has a high IMDb rating of 7.9. (It's only been rated 34 times, however.) I thought it was better than that, and rated it 9.
