I've really enjoyed the previous two seasons of "Get Shorty" and am happy to say that despite the time jump for this run, it finds a natural way to keep all the characters circling each other without repeating the plot of the previous seasons.
Miles Daly (Chris O'Dowd) is released from Prison after a two year spell during which he lost not only time with his daughter Emma (Carloyn Dodd) but also the producer credit on his movie "Wylderness". With a plan for revenge in mind, he heads back to Buddy Boy productions and cajoles Laurence (Steven Weber) into hiring him as an assistant. Rick (Ray Romano) has been to Guatemala with Amara (Lidia Porto), but comes back to the US with ideas for a screenplay in mind. Gladys (Carolyn Dodd) is looking for work as an actress and Louis (Sean Bridgers) starts to wonder if his talent management role is a little too easy for him.
So we're well settled into the world of "Get Shorty" now and returning to the characters is a familiar warmth, even if the characters themselves, such as Goya Robles' Yago or Isaac Keys' Ed haven't always been the most likable of people. This series only really adds a couple of new characters, most notably Michaela Watkins with a nicely done conflicting performance as Ali Egan, the executive at Buddy Boy that Miles is assigned too and one that may become more important if we run into a fourth season (as yet unconfirmed, as far as I can tell) Mike O'Malley playing a Homicide Detective.
It's another funny, well performed, well written season of what remains a massively underappreciated show.
