“Queen Rock Montreal” will make its global streaming premiere May 15 on Disney+ as the first concert film available with Imax Enhanced sound by DTS.
When it arrived in theaters in January, the remastered 1981 concert was Imax’s biggest exclusive engagement. Now, it will debut on Disney+ alongside 18 Marvel films that will also be offered with Imax Enhanced sound on supported devices, Imax’s senior VP and head of Imax post and image capture Bruce Markoe announced during a panel Sunday at the Nab Show in Las Vegas.
The original concerts, featuring Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon, took place over two consecutive nights in November 1981, and were arranged specifically to be filmed for a full-length concert film to document their live show. The performance includes classics such as “Another One Bites the Dust,” “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Somebody to Love.” It was restored for Imax by Mercury Studios.

In a recent New Yorker interview, experimental electronic musician Daniel Lopatin noted that he finds most of the hand-wringing over A.I., specifically in the context of creating music, to be overblown. What’s more interesting, he added, is seeing how A.I. “creates these insinuated arrangements that don’t sound anything like any music I’ve ever heard.”
This tension between the organic and the synthetic—or, more specifically, between what sounds “natural” and what’s trying its hardest to be perceived as such—defines Again, Lopatin’s 10th album as Oneohtrix Point Never. It’s an album that, like much of Lopatin’s work, sounds as if every single MP3 file on a hard drive was corrupted beyond the point of recognition. But there’s still a wealth of grace and unearthly beauty to be found in these glitched-out compositions.
There’s an abundance of allusions to Lopatin’s past releases throughout Again,...

Feeling somewhere between classic Canadian sci-fi Cube and the more recent Level 16, Control is a stunning film that plays things very small scale but ultimately ends up being an epic tale of sci-fi horror.
Locked in a mysterious room and commanded by an unknown voice, Eileen must complete several tasks in order to save her daughter’s life. As the tests and the stakes intensify to the point where succeeding seems well nigh impossible, Eileen is forced to discover she has some unexpected skills and kinetic powers. Armed with a new confidence and commanding forces, alone against an unknown army, she plans a daring escape…

Humans with enhanced powers are being hunted down and captured by an Above Top Secret government agency. As one of them fights for her freedom she realizes one of her own kind may be an even bigger threat. The New Mutants or another new X-Men film?
No, it’s Enhanced, the new film from director James Mark. He’s teamed up with co-writers Matthew Nayman (Betrayal) and Peter Van Horne for a semi-sequel to Mark’s 2017 film Kill Order. Neither the film’s poster or any press materials refer to Enhanced as a sequel to or even in the same world as Kill Order. But the connections are obvious. The mutant’s powers,...

"They're not people, they're weapons!" Vertical Ent. has released an official trailer for an indie sci-fi thriller about mutants, of course, called Enhanced. There are so many mutants films nowadays, it's becoming a dime-a-dozen and they're not that original anymore. A young woman with "enhanced" abilities finds herself hunted down by a sinister government organization. But when an even stronger mutant serial killer emerges on the scene, agents and mutants are forced to question their allegiances. Alanna Bale stars, with George Tchortov, Adrian Holmes, Chris Mark, Eric Hicks, Michael J. Delaney, and Patrick Sabongui. This is made by a former stuntman, so at least the action looks cool, but not sure the rest of it'll be any good. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for James Mark's Enhanced, direct from YouTube: George Shepherd is part of an elite private military unit that specializes in capturing mutant fugitives. When David, a super mutant,...
