One of the rare gem from Marathi film industry
gauravdtulaskar23 March 2021
If you are from Konkan you will relate to detailing

If you are from Maharashtra you will understand the art work

If you are docu-drama follower you will enjoy the movie

If you are viewer from any other state who doesn't understand the language you will know why Marathi cinema is known as one of the best film industry...

It is not a masala potboiler but musical drama, it won't make you feel cry but it will make you feel sad for the central character and then make you smile at the end..

1:13 mins long this one is not lengthy at all, performances are excellent, realistic set-up and locations.

At the end movie is dedicated to Dashavtar an ancient art form of folk theatre which began in 12th century A.D. in the South region of Maharashtra and Goa.

This movie is tribute to all those artist those who still struggle and depend on the people's patronage these performers, singers, writers and musicians are truly talented but never gets recognised for their true work..

Must watch for theatre lovers..

Marvelous Ode to Traditional Folk Theatre form "Dashavatar"
PrathameshNaik0720 March 2021
First of all this is not a typical Indian " Masala Movie". Director have cautiously tried to interlink usual aspects of movie with theatre form of "Dashavatar". Protagonist of the movie aptly showcases day to day difficulties faced by these artist while trying to preserve this art form. It was great to see so many local Dashavatar artists featuring in the movie. Throughout the movie beauty of monsoon cladded Konkan is captured beautifully . Like a Picasso, you need to understand certain nuances in the movie by reading between the lines. I felt that time span of the movie could have been enhanced by 10~15 minutes to create better emotional connect with the central characters. Overall I feel it is a great movie with a simple story line and beautiful execution!

An artistic portrait of one of the earliest folk form- Dashavatar in original format.
SAMTHEBESTEST23 March 2021
Picasso (2019) : Brief Review -

An artistic portrait of one of the earliest folk form- Dashavatar in original format. Picasso is very much contented with its title which defines the artistic values of creative art forms such as painting and sculpture. The film is about Gandharva, a 7th grade student, very well mastered painter who gets a chance to go ahead to next level with his skills but is stucked by the financial conflicts. His father, once a great artist at his teenage has faced the similar financial issues, is now working at a theatre and sculpts lord Ganpati idols as well. While the film tells a never dieing message of 'Never Give Up', the sideline of old folk form Dashavatar adds a great cinematic touch to it. Prasad Oak is fine artist already and he gets another fine role to explore a different side of his talent. Child artist Samay Sanjeev as his son is excellent in every frame. His performance looks natural and matured which a big thing considering his age. The supporting cast does well according to situations and less screen space. These on screen things are certainly notable but the real victory of Picasso lies in off-screen materialism. The writting, the direction and the cinematography these three things make Picasso look more classy than what it is. The way director holds the narrative with his beautiful storytelling, the way cinematographer captures eye-pleasing yet creative frames and the way writer keeps the essence alive throughout the simple storyline is truly overwhelming. If there is anything Picasso lacks then it is the long time Impact in the story. A little bit more fascinating climax, and may be Picasso would have ended on a Classic Level. The runtime is short enough to tell this story and that's the soul of the film looks tiny. Nevertheless, it fulfills all the expectations one can have from a quality cinema. Picasso is more like a film festival material than a mainstream film so better make up your mind before entering this museum of musical art.

Have not watched something in many years, very soothing
rohitjoshi119 March 2021
When I began watching this movie, I expected it would be one of those movies a boy rising from humble background and then achieving something big, happy ending you know. But , more than that, it surprised me with such a unique folk theatre art. To watch that was mesmrising. The movie is just perfect, could not find any flaws in it, almost sounded like a true story. I am not a Marathi speaking person and never had a chance to be resident of any city in Maharashtra, however I must say the content of most of the Marathi movies is way better than Bollywood movies.

A subject worthy of receiving a national award
pratikdalviub19 April 2021
The theme and content of the film was very good but the story needed to be a bit bigger The language would also be Malvani. It would have been nice to see pure Malvani Prasad Oak has done a great job It was like acting to get a national award The film does not show the depth of the subject.

Misleading Title
keshavkale-9424010 June 2021
The movie in general is good, acting is ok and characters are simple. But the title is not true to the subject. The great Picasso was more famous for his abstract paintings, and not for realistic drawings. More time of the story is focused on the local Dashavtar drama part, which is portrayed realistically. Father of this gifted son is also a multi talented personality. But due to poverty, he cannot give justice to his natural skills. He dreams big for his son. Then the director should have concentrated on his drawing and sculpture skills rather the mediocre acting in traditional drama. Overall, the team of this film is good but they have missed their goal.

Masterpiece, which gives new way of thinking
chetanpatilcp-8095918 April 2021
One of the best marathi movie, which shows great emotional depth and how much it is difficult for common man from rural areas to achieve their simple dreams. Movie has great cinematography, a good length, a very simple but heart- touching story and has a background of local folk called 'Dashavtar'. If you are sadden by your failures, then watch this movie. You will get new energy.

Struggle of folk artist (Dashavtar) from southern Konkan
Mayuresh_Bhise25 May 2021
One of the best creation in Marathi cinema. This movie shows the issues and condition of folk artists. These artist are surviving without any support from government but yet they perform and nourish their culture. The kid from movie, just reminded me my childhood. There are multiple students who have many talents but they cant pursue it further due to their financial situation. Hope this movie will at least bring government attention.

Complete let down
amitmujawar17 April 2021
The movie lets you down due to a very slow storyline revolving around a completely different topic from what is described in details and title. It is actually a dedication to dashavtar play actors in konkan. While i appreciate the efforts to portray their olight the movie has also did very bad justice to this topic too.overall a complete waste of time.
