Oh, God. The enfant terrible of animated comedies is delivering unto us a Season 22 finale of biblical proportions. Because after Family Guy’s near-quarter of a century on the air, nothing is sacred! “I never thought I’d hear myself say this as a writer,” confesses Richard Appel, a showrunner alongside Alec Sulkin, “but the Standards and Practices department at Fox is easy to work with and pretty good with us.” Due in part to the sheer success of the cartoon, as well as its consistent ability to push the envelope without inspiring boycotts (anymore), Guy has gotten away with decades of gags other shows wouldn’t dare to attempt—like tonight’s trip back to the days of Jesus. A travesty, you say? Even the respected drama The Chosen has a sense of humor—witness its Jesus (Jonathan Roumie) cracking jokes! The episode kicks off with Brian the dog...

You’ve seen Luke Dimyan in shows such as Better Things and the Viaplay original streaming series Home Invasion, but he might have just taken on his most memorable role to date.
In his latest project, Luke bravely tackles the controversial Bible figure Judas Iscariot — yes, the one who betrayed Jesus — in the hit faith-based series, The Chosen.
Born and raised in Torrance, California, in a very close-knit family, the actor has seemingly been preparing for this role his entire life, thanks to his Coptic-Orthodox upbringing.
The Bible was one of the first books and stories he delved into, so he was more than equipped with historical and biblical knowledge years prior.
Monsters and Critics had an insightful chat with Luke about filming the show and what he wants viewers to take away from his character.

We just got some disappointing news for fans of The Chosen eagerly anticipating Season 4.
Sadly, it will be some time before the series is made available on streaming platforms, and right now we don’t know when that time will be.
However, it’s not all bad news — at least for those in the U.S. and Canada because the series will be shown in theatres over the Easter weekend.
Theatergoers can buy tickets to watch all eight episodes over the three-day weekend, at a discounted cost.
As for international viewers and everyone else waiting with anticipation to see the show, it will be available on The Chosen app at some point, and yes it will be free.
However, fans will have to exercise a bit of patience because no date has been given for that.

Exclusive: Fox Nation is lining up more religious content ahead of Easter, snapping up the rights to both The Chosen and The Passion of the Christ.
Passion of the Christ will be available beginning March 8, while Seasons 1 through 3 of The Chosen are set to debut on Fox Nation on March 10.
Both titles will be available through the peak viewing season, with Passion remaining through Easter and The Chosen staying even longer, through April 21.
In addition to these titles, Fox Nation will also be hosting a roundtable discussion to dissect both programs, led by Fox & Friends host Ainsley Earhardt. Details on guests for the roundtable are coming soon, Fox says.
The Chosen has become somewhat of a hot commodity lately, with The CW picking up the first three seasons last summer. The series about the life of Jesus is from creator, director and producer Dallas Jenkins and stars Jonathan Roumie as the King of Kings.
The Chosen is described as the first multi-season series of its kind. Set against the backdrop of Jewish oppression in first-century Israel, the seven-season show shares an authentic and intimate look at Jesus’ revolutionary life and teachings. The fourth season hit theaters in February, and Season 5 is in production.
It began as a crowdsourcing project on the Angel Studios app and turned into a global hit with over 110 million viewers in 175 countries, with plans to make it available in 600 languages. The series has generated 6.5 million followers across social media, made $35 million at box office in special-event theatrical releases and has spawned an apparel line, best-selling books, DVDs and an upcoming series of graphic novels.
Directed by Mel Gibson, The Passion of the Christ is a 2004 film about the last 12 hours in the life of Jesus of Nazareth (Jim Caviezel). The film opens in the Garden of Olives (Gethsemane) where Jesus has gone to pray after the Last Supper. Jesus resists Satan’s temptations. Betrayed by Judas Iscariot, Jesus is arrested and taken back to within the city walls of Jerusalem where the leaders of the Pharisees confront him with accusations of blasphemy and his trial results in a condemnation to death.
The pic remains the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time domestically, with $370.8 million. It was No. 1 at the North American box office for five nonconsecutive weeks.
Fox Nation has been building its platform on faith-based content, including the docu-drama Jesus Crown of Thorns coming in 2025.

Angel Studios, a small production studio operating out of Utah, has swiftly ascended as a significant player in the entertainment industry with its unique approach to distribution. A Malaga competition contender, Antonio Chavarrías returns to the festival with “Holy Mother,” (“La abadesa”). His latest venture, sold by Film Constellation, transports us to the 9th century where Emma, a newly appointed abbess, is tasked with the formidable challenge of repopulating and revitalizing frontier lands on the edge of Muslim territorie,s at the bequest of her powerful family.
The film was set up at Chavarrias’ Barcelona-based Oberon Cinematográfica with Wanda Visión, Icono 2020 Aie, and Saga Film.
At the story’s center is Daniela Brown’s portrayal of Emma, a young abbess whose divine conviction is matched only by her unyielding resolve. “Emma always thinks that her power emanates directly from God; in that conviction there is a certain naivety,” reflects Chavarrías.
The portrayal illuminates Emma’s journey, as she navigates a maze of societal expectations and political intrigue, her every action surrounded by doubters.

Lionsgate Vice Chair Michael Burns said the company is set to split in two by year end with a first step in early April as the studio merges with a Spac and starts to trade separately from Starz on the Nasdaq under the stock symbol Lion.
For tax reasons, the parent company will retain 87% of the studio stock at first, along with all of Starz, and the plan is fully separate the studio from Starz by the end of 2024, he told investors at the Morgan Stanley media conference.
The operation has been pending for some time and is designed to unlock value as the share price hasn’t reflected the full value of all the company’s assets for some time, execs believe. Both companies would also be digestible acquisition targets in a media landscape that’s consolidating — or trying to.

It's no secret that the 2024 box office has been off to a slow start. Moreover, the theatrical side of the movie business as a whole has been trying to figure out what the long-term future looks like in the Covid era. The recovery from the 2020 shutdowns has been slower than expected and theaters are in need of wins, wherever they can be found. To that end, a somewhat unlikely savior has emerged: TV shows.

Netflix is doing its best Angel Studios impression with “Testament: The Story of Moses,” a three-part documentary series premiering on March 27, 2024. Angel, the studio behind surprise box-office hit “Sound of Freedom,” is not actually involved; “Testament” is a Karga Seven Pictures production.
Unlike “Sound of Freedom,” “The Story of Moses” will not have a theatrical release. Even if it were cut as a feature-length film instead of a docuseries, that’s just not how Netflix rolls — it wants longterm subscribers, not a one-time box office boon.
“Testament: The Story of Moses” explores the life of Moses and his rise from outcast and murderer to prophet and liberator of the Hebrews, according to the logline. Netflix released the trailer on Tuesday, March 5.
The docuseries’ presentation is part scripted drama, part documentary-style interviews. There are the locusts and the sea-parting and all the greatest hits from the Bible, the Qur’an, and the Torah.

Monday Am Update: It looks like Dune: Part Two had an even spicier opening than expected, with Deadline reporting that the film actually ended up making a million bucks more over the weekend than anticipated. It’s adjusted weekend gross now stands at $82.5 million, meaning it had a bigger opening weekend than Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. Will it end up crossing $300 million domestically? Word-of-mouth and time will tell!
Original Post: The final numbers are coming in, and Dune: Part Two is defying earlier predictions that it would open in the $75 million-ish range with a strong $81 million opening weekend. This is just slightly above what we predicted a few days ago. Why is it coming in so much higher than the trades predicted yesterday? The universally positive word of mouth (an A CinemaScore rating) propelled it to a stronger-than-expected Saturday night in sales. This, or course, is great news, with the...

Exclusive: By his own admission, Angel Studios CEO Neal Harmon does not fit the bicoastal profile of the typical film executive.
At the start of an hour-long interview with Deadline at New York’s Greenwich Hotel, the Tribeca venue owned by Robert De Niro, Harmon acknowledged that he was on only the second trip of his life to New York City. Asked for his impressions, he marveled, “It’s amazing to see so many people coming together and creating something like this city.”
The exec is the third of nine Harmon children raised in a Mormon family on an Idaho dairy farm. Two of his brothers are also execs working at Provo, Ut-based Angel, and another runs one of its episodic series. The family business has hit new heights over the past year, releasing left-field blockbuster Sound of Freedom and helping to foster episodic series like increasingly popular Biblical epic The Chosen.

Malaga — Opening last Friday with “Dragonkeeper,” also in competition, Spain’s Malaga Festival, its biggest dedicated event for movies from Spain and Latin America, is studded by latest films by Isaki Lacuesta – “Saturn Return,” reportedly fun, broad audience and radical – David Trueba – “The Good Man,” small scale but almost certainly ingratiating – and Antonio Chavarrías’ “Holy Mother,” about an extraordinary real life female figure in Spain’s 9th century Reconquista.
Also in the running is “Rest in Peace,” from notable Argentine writer-director Sebastián Borensztein (“Chinese Takeaway”).
All are front-runners for some kind of award next Saturday. Prominent also is a bevy of first or second features, featuring from Spain three titles from women directors – gender abuse drama “The Snows,” “Nina,” reportedly a Western set in a northern Spanish town, and tragi-comedy “We Treat Women Too Well” – plus a clutch of debuts from Latin America.

A new film stands on top of the box-office weekend as Dune: Part Two debuted with an overwhelming $74.1 million margin of victory.
The long-awaited sequel Dune: Part Two opened with $81.5 million in its first three days in release for Warner Bros., easily taking the lead of this week’s top ten. In its third weekend of release, Paramount Pictures’ Bob Marley: One Love fell to second place where it brought in $7.4 million to raise its overall total to $82.8 million. Holding steady in third place was Ordinary Angels which added $3.9 million over the weekend to bring its two-week tally to $12.6 million. Sydney Sweeney is still riding the shockwave that came from "Madame Web" bombing spectacularly hard at the box office. Though the mystifyingly terrible film set in Sony Pictures' own strange Marvel universe took the fourth place spot at the box office this weekend, where "Dune: Part Two" had no problem dominating, it just barely edged out the Fathom Events' special presentation of a couple of season 4 episodes of the Biblical series "The Chosen," and that's playing in nearly 1,000 fewer theaters (via Box Office Mojo). But that didn't stop Sweeney from cracking a joke at the expense of "Madame Web" and having a great time hosting "Saturday Night Live."
Though some would argue that Sydney Sweeney's range as an actress feels like it has limitations, her performance on "SNL" revealed that she has some eclectic comedic chops. In addition, despite not being known for her comedic skills, she had very little...

“Dune: Part Two” (Warner Bros.) did its part to launch what needs to be a comeback March for theaters. With an estimated gross of $81.5 million in U.S./Canada on its first weekend — about double the initial “Dune” in October 2021 — Denis Villeneuve’s sequel had the best opening since “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” (at a higher average ticket price), “Barbie,” and “Oppenheimer” last July.
Meantime, A24’s “Problemista” with $140,000 in five New York/Los Angeles theaters had the best platform start since the holidays nearly a year after its SXSW premiere. Written and directed by Julio Torres, he also stars opposite Tilda Swinton in a comedy about an El Savadoran toy designer who must confront the vagaries of the New York art world.
Propelling “Dune 2” are premium formats with elevated prices, which provided 48 percent of the gross (23 percent from IMAX). The performance is a critical boost to the idea that an expensive sequel,...
