Cobra Kai

The 80s hip and happening cultural shot gets a love letter it needs, not the one it deserves, though. The creators of this YouTube series are clearly fans of the characters and their legacy more than they are of the film itself. And that very passion of theirs is what drives the series and holds on to us even when the series tends to lean towards the cheesiest note of the storytelling. The romance between Ralph Macchio and William Zabka is turned to 11, and with no bars held and well justified deeds, these couple of hot heads surprisingly keeps offering us new profound information and tactics, to the skill they worship and live for. As much as three dimensional and absorbing these leads grow, the younger character are often under cooked.

They are the victim of a huge misunderstanding which, yes, usually can be the case among the virtual generation who are apparently highly sensitive and easily influenced in here, but overloading this very piece of note just seems like lazy writing. Another major friction in this spinning wheel, is the performance, with carrying absolute zero empathy in their actions, there is very little for us to care about in their well choreographed fights.

Also, the production seems either underfunded or has focused very less in details that makes it look sketchy along with loud incongruent background score that is not only off putting but often annoying. The storytelling is good if considered as a prime time news show but if scraped its surface and look deep into its structure, there is actually no rhythm or flow to the beat, it is good in parts just as their training is good in bits. Cobra Kai is a match to the Miyagi-Do, the dice has been rolled and no matter where it lands on, the game breathes 80s rock music, which could never be disappointing.

Season 02

With still the looks of an underfunded play and the references to appeal the teenagers, the effort of the creators is something that outweighs its flaws and fumbles, and no matter how much short handed the series may feel on performance level, the history of these characters that we have been part of, does make us groove.

The Moment Of Truth

The confrontational and revelation based theme never fully grasps the rhythm of it, the confessions are forward pass while the amendments a major halt on the process, the lexicon of the series remains stereotypical.
