Another character bites the dust

This show by this point is pretty much indestructible it seems, as yet another cast member bows out, i'm sure to be replaced quickly.
Florence had a hard act to follow,replacing the much loved Camille, but credit to Josephine Jobert for making her equally as liked during her tenure. The DI to the Inspector is a bit of a thankless task, but the dynamic between her and Jack was particularly strong.
I agree with other reviewers, this episode, much like the first part, is darker than this series normally goes, and actually it's a nice change.

After "Beyond the Shining Sea: Part 1" was so engaging, I was really looking forward to see Part 2. Thankfully, my expectations were justified, because this episode is even better than the previous one. "Beyond the Shining Sea: Part 2" is easily one of the best episodes of the show.
Let's start with good aspects first, shall we?
. The episode looks and sounds wonderful. The acting's strong all around. Ardal O'Hanlon is very likable as Mooney and continues to be a major hit after Kris Marshall. Saskia Reeves, Angus Deayton and Alistair Mackenzie are good and Josephine Jobert gives an extremly emotional performance- I was truly impressed with her!
. The murder mystery is one of the shows most engaging. There is minimum amount of humor, which indeed feels like a breath of fresh air for the series, there are clever plot twists andthe story is full of emotionally gutting scenes, which were powerful.
But...
. There were parts, when the writing could have been better. Especially the scene, when Mooney find a cushion that was used in the murder of Patrice.
Overall, a great entry and a powerful ending to Florence.

The nonsense of the early episodes this season seems a million miles away from this episode. If I'm honest I can think of no other episode I've enjoyed more. Intriguing, thrilling, hugely moving.
Joséphine Jobert was the standout performer in this episode, which included some top notch actors in the form of Saskia Reeves and Angus Drayton, she gave a powerful, emotional performance, and had me close to tears. She was much missed this series.
The tone and pitch of this episode, as with the previous, was the real winner, a much more engaging story, more grown up in tone, devoid of any Carry on movie scenes.
The most I've engaged in an episode for some time.

This fun and entertaining show took a dramatic turn
It was interesting to see and I am happy to say needed for the lead actress as she has not always been used well (in Marshalls run)
Was a nail bitter because of the situation and the knowledge the show can kill
Concepts can be shifted as much as writers directors cast and crew people do get promoted married etc so they move
The key to this shows success is how they handle the new faces and so far for better or worse it has worked OK

Forgot to say, that those of you who, don't like the new season,no one is making you watch it. Everyone has their own opinions, but if you don't like something find something you like better. Simple solution, right???

By the end of Part One we heard two shots and DS Florence Cassell was lying on the floor.
As soon as the second episode gets underway, there is further tragedy for Florence. The second shot was meant for Patrice.
For DI Jack Mooney this is personal as Florence is rushed to hospital. The team trace who Patrice had phoned. Some rich people living off Saint-Marie in a small island, all living in a big house.
Mooney soon scents that all three people are lying but which one of them shot Florence and Patrice. It might also lead to a reinterpretation of the events in Part One.
This was another enjoyable episode. It was good to Commissioner Patterson getting involved. The actual method of getting away from the island and returning was both brazen and clever. I actually felt part of it was inspired by the Robert Redford film, All Is Lost.

It's a shame this episode didn't feature the funeral of Patrice. This special episode, which farewells Florence, has twists and turns for sure. We see primary suspects Ewan Boyd, who divides his time between London and New York with his "bolthole" in Saint Marie, his coach Frances Compton (Saskia Reeves, who many years ago starred in Close My Eyes with Clive Owen) and Martin Stow (Angus Deayton, erstwhile host of Have I Got News For You). Talking about dividing the time, usually "dividing the time" is used for exotic locations.
The departure of Florence was very sad. Hopefully she can return. So far none of the departing characters (who survived) have never returned for a special episode.

Great episode with an interesting story line.
But this new girl Officer Ruby Patterson played by Shyko Amos is too annoying and needs to go, she is no replacement for the brilliant Danny John-Jules as Dwayne.
So sad to see Joséphine Jobert as DS Florence Cassell leave the show, she will be missed.
Please get rid of Officer Ruby Patterson and bring back Dwayne.

The BRILLIANT series created by Robert Thorogood has ended with 8.1 being the last episode that remotely adheres to the concept.
The most important part of the concept has always been to reveal just enough details for the clever viewer to determine the killer before the detective. The grand reveal is made for the viewer - not for the possible murder suspects. Okay, there were a few episodes with Kriss Marshall that broke the concept, but never five in a row.
There is nothing interesting about the show anymore. Just another mainstream show with cast being replaced on a regular basis.

Josephine Jobert has no acting ability. I'm glad she's gone. Very glad. How many times per minute does she just look up and move her eyes then turn her head down to pretend a scribble in a notepad? The answer is as vast as the cosmos. That's all she has. That's all she is capable of. That's all she is capable of offering. I skipped past seasons just to be rid of her.
