This was definitely a very witchcraft-heavy episode, but the writing for this season is definitely uneven. The teen relationship stuff is all over the place this year and that's one of the things you would think the show could get right.

I would understand if the showrunner was Ryan Murphy, that's would've explain all the songs. Though songs would be better I suppose. Unnecessarily addition in order to chase some new audience turned everything in some kind of dark-glee-riverdale version.

The first two seasons were gleefully Satanic enough to suffer Kiernan Shipka's strange fawning one minute and wooden acting the next, but this season has been asking too much of its audience. Rarely does anyone act as if their lives are in peril. The characters walk around like they each took a massive hit to the head. If that's not enough, we're given two episodes with a musical number, both led by Kiernan (whose voice is the only thing tricky), and both unforgivable.
Poor writing has ruined a good show.

This Way Comes. The evil carnival is a complete rip off of the movie Something Wicked This way Comes. Even the head of the troupe looks like Mr Dark. I almost expected a cameo from Jason Robards (yes, I know he's dead).
Hoping the rest of the season is a little more original
