The plight of poor Pat.
Sleepin_Dragon11 May 2019
We learn why Pat has the arrow in his neck, the sad story that led to his demise and subsequent becoming a ghost, we also get to see his family, who of course have now moved on.

It's another funny episode, and I think we get to see exactly where this comedy is pitched, with Alison's ability to see ghosts causing all manner of mishaps. By this stage I see several options for the future, but also the limitations of the show, this week it's the turn of the builders, the builder's bums of course caused some laughs, as did Steve Oram.

Warning: Spoilers
The hapless new owners of the stately pile, that is Button House are rather lumbered with the property. Mike Cooper has saddled them with dept, by signing a contract without bothering to actually read the small print.

Now they are trapped in a situation that is not going away, for as the repair work progresses it only unearthed more problems.

Alison has to come to terms with Button House's former residents, if she is to be able to remain relatively sane.

They have become an integral aspect of the very fabric of the property, and their problems will become hers if she can't manage it.

Each persons curse is to remain in the vicinity of their demise and, Button House is the one thing they all share in common.

Pat Butcher the scout master has something in particular dwelling on his mind, as the moment draws near of a particularly poignant moment in his life.

For him there is only one person alive that can possibly help him in his hour of need, and it most certainly is not any of his erstwhile fellow inhabitants.

An Arrow in the Neck

Pat tells Alison how he died and that the next day was to be his "death" day. A day his family comes to the house to think of him. Meanwhile, the workers have decided to vacate because Alison is acting so weird. They are also a bunch of jerks, trying to exploit the couple. There is a touching moment at the end.

Happy Death Day

We get to learn more about how one of the ghosts died in this episode. As the episode opens we go back to 1984 and Pat is giving archery lessons.

Pat will never give an arrow out first again.

It is going to be the anniversary of his death and his family still make an annual visit to the place he died. His son is grown up and his wife married his best friend, it seems both were close to each other before Pat died.

Pat wants Alison to send a message to his family but Pat is unsure.

Meanwhile Alison and Mike have the builders working on the house and they have additional work to do which would increase their budget. The ghosts meanwhile want to drive them away from the house but find out that these builders are an honest bunch.

It was actually nice to have some character moments in this one and Pat's story was rather tender and Jim Howick played it well. The one sour note is Matthew Baynton's poet character is downright irritating.

Warning: Spoilers
This show is starting to grow on me. I hope they don't give us a backstory or death story every episode, but if done correctly it should be fun like it was here.
