Season One Review
From the brains behind Horrible Histories comes, "Ghosts" and amiable comedy about a young couple Alison (Charlotte Ritchie) and Mike (Kiell Smith-Bynoe) who inherit a mansion unaware that it is haunted by the centuries of characters who passed on there. Although initially unaware, a life threatening accident gives Alison the ability to see and hear the ghosts and though most are amiable, some object to their plans for the house
Strange how late in the day the BBC decided to air "Ghosts" as whilst it's a little more adult than the "Horrible Histories" show, we are only talking a little bit and that's only with things hinted at, rather than any increase in swearing or the like. It's definitely a family friendly show. It is though, as a result of that tone something, I watched with a constant feeling of amusement rather than regularly laughing out loud at it.
The character work is strong, with most of the cast playing at least a couple of roles across the production, perhaps the character a Humphrey (the headless one) has been done before and is a bit of a one joke character, but he's the only one whose underserved. Alison and Mike are a believable couple, if slightly naive, although that's necessary for the story to progress.
So, yes. As I said, it's fine, perfect pleasant show that colours inside the lines and continues its affable way, I'll watch the second season and probably still wonder why it isn't on Sunday evening rather than Monday night.
