Fight Club

A week off from Arrow was likely needed as this episode seemed to reinvigorate the pacing for the last season just enough to keep my interest. Of course, it wasn't without it's flaws, but I had a great time with tonight's episode, particularly the last 10-15 minutes.

It was only a matter of time before Oliver and company returned to Russia as the last season is running through all of the show's greatest hits in the last 10 episodes. Who other than Anatoly to show up and provide further context around the search for and the plans of plutonium. The separate missions, Roy & Dig and the Oliver-Mia-William-Laurel arc, weren't always captivating, but I thoroughly enjoyed the fight scenes. Specifically the callback to when Oliver had to ring the bell in season 5.

This week also saw the return of Roy, who I guess is sticking around for a bit? Sounds good to me. Could we possibly see him in the massive crossover for the first time? And look, even if his return seems like a convoluted plot reason to bring him back, I still enjoyed his presence. At this point, I'm taking what I can get with the show.

All leading to the end reveal that Lyla has in fact "betrayed" the team. More than likely, she'll explain her reasons and they will be on her side within a week, but it was a nice cliffhanger to lead off with. However, shouldn't we be seeing more of The Monitor at this point? He's been in a total of maybe 3-4 scenes all season?

Nostalgic trip back to Russia results in a great episode
Holt34420 November 2019
This was a great episode with lots of nostalgic moments and entertaining scenes. There is lots of callbacks to past seasons as they are in Russia, it was also one of my favorite storylines in the past seasons. Also some stunning and great fight choreography and camera work, I wanted a longer cage fight though but it was still a great part of the episode. The story progresses nicely and the Crisis is almost upon us, I can't wait for the last couple of episodes before all hell breaks lose.

Colton Haynes is back as Roy Harper and David Nykl as Anatoly brings back. Anatoly is always played brilliantly by David, giving such believable and great performance as the anti villain he's again one of the highlights. So what performances were the best? In my opinion, there were no that stood out except for Stephen Amell and David Nykl.

A homage to season 5!
RahulM00720 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This episode fittingly titled "Prochnost" is a homage to the season 5 flashbacks. It had numerous noteworthy Easter Eggs and callbacks to season 5. My favorite callback was when Mia fought the Bratva goons and tried to ring the bell in the process. It is a callback to season 5 episode 2 where Oliver is trying to get recruited into the Bratva.

One of the many things I love about this season is Oliver and Mia's relationship and how that dynamic shifts this episode. The training montage where Oliver trains Mia to eventually take over the Green Arrow mantle was perfect and a great father-daughter bonding moment.

I missed Anatoly on the show. He brings a certain element to the episode that makes his appearance more likable. His interactions with Oliver were all heartfelt and poignant. The friendship between these characters have really come a long way. The episode served as a great reunion and farewell to a beloved character of the show.

I kind of suspected that Laurel will have a change of heart and not betray Oliver again. It was quite evident in this episode that Laurel was not keen on succumbing back to her old habits. I believe that the Monitor was testing Laurel to see if she is strong enough for the coming crisis.

It was great to see Roy Harper return and him donning the Arsenal costume once more. Apparently, Roy has been living off the grid and changed his name to the alias Jason Todd. This is a noticeable callback to the penultimate episode of season 3 where Thea comes to visit him. In this episode, Diggle was the one who saw him out and asked for help. Roy is still dealing with his bloodlust and the guilt of murdering two people. Could this be the reason why Roy exiled himself to Lian Yu?

To conclude, this episode hit all the right notes for me. It was a fun and invigorating episode that further builds up the dynamic between Oliver and Mia. Mia is truly is the epitome of Oliver and Felicity. She has the wits, beauty and intelligence of Felicity and the strength, compassion, selflessness and stubbornness of Oliver. I am enthused to see how the last couple of episodes before the crossover pan out, now that Oliver knows that Lyla is working with the Monitor. What is the Monitor trying to accomplish?

Father & Daughter Fight Club
highmarksreviews20 November 2019
It's shocking how quickly the tables have turned for the better on Arrow this season. How the show's weakest link has turned out to be its strongest asset past the mid-point of this season. Now, as Oliver (Stephen Amell) and company travel back to Russia for a bloody Bratva stroll down memory lane, we are left wondering just how much more we can get before Crisis rolls around to rock our multiverse.

"Prochnost" was undoubtedly the briskest episode of the show to date. It zigged and zagged a lot. Not just in locations and with its many characters, but with its tone. On one hand you have Oliver, weary of a looming cataclysm trying to connect with both his time-displaced kids. On the other you have Laurel (Katie Cassidy) doing her best to hold her redemption arc down and then Anatoly Knyazev (David Nykl) cracking a funny one-liner. It's all over the place. When you factor in the Russian fight club element, things get even more intense.

Speaking of intensity, it's was kind of fitting for accomplished director Laura Belsey to take the reins this episode. The showrunners and producers massively underestimated her talents as a director in season four and squandered her talents again in season six. It's good to see her in her element, especially when it comes to those satisfyingly brutal brawls. Considering how intense episodes like "Kapushion" and "The Slabside Redemption" where, I could have used with a bit more blood though. Or bone crunches.

The family drama was also a great element that continued to yield its rewards after that killer twist from a couple weeks back. The dialogue and the emotions hit the right notes. I dare say I actually like the future team of heroes now. When paired with their dad or other members of Team Arrow, they shine and make sense as characters.

Roy Harper's (Colton Haynes) return was welcome, but completely unnecessary in my opinion. At least in the context of this particular episode. He had no thematic connection to the Russian happenings and his little stint with Diggle (David Ramsey) really wasn't that enjoyable, minus that slick yellow-green lighting that illuminated the two in some truly cinematic ways.

I also found that the Crisis aspect was sorely lacking. Moreover, the whole idea of "we have to stop the Monitor" dimmed out quickly. That development never made too much sense at all. Why not have Oliver just do as he is told when he knows so much is at risk? Send him to another Earth, that worked amazingly well in the premiere.

The ending though, once again is a pretty neat one, so keep your eyes and ears open...

So, while imperfect with its tone and uninteresting with its re-introduction of Roy Harper, "Prochnost" hit the right emotional notes with the Queen-Smoak family and did it with a dash of brutal Russian fisticuffs along the way.

This season is awesome
aopek3 April 2021
We had some terrible seasons on Arrow (season 4).

Season 7 was not very good either. It was so boring.

But this final season reminds us why we fell in love with Arrow.

Five very good episodes. Five more to go.

Another Brilliant episode of Arrow.
EddyTheMartian00720 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Arrow keeps hitting the tennis ball just right this season! Arrow's Russian storyline is one of my favorites on the show, so when I heard they were doing an episode focused in Russia again I was very excited. I'm glad to say my very high expectations were met. This was another fantastic episode of Arrow. I loved all the callbacks to previous seasons again (like dislocating thumbs or the bell ringing), there are just so many, it makes it feel rewarding to have stuck through the series. The first 5 minutes were already awesome when we see Oliver train Mia, and all the different types of trick arrows! It's been a long time coming, I wish we got to see more usage of these arrow's in previous seasons. I also have to appreciate that for once they actually made Mia not be perfect. It makes sense she wouldn't be as good as Oliver, and usually she's been made to seem to skilled already. Really one of my only problems with this episode has to be Mia. I think last episode she was an improvement (despite still being somewhat annoying). However, Mia's personality is just annoying, she has an attitude similar to Earth 2 Black Canary, but without the nuances that balance out her strong personality. I'm just hoping that her character changes to be more tolerable as the season progresses, but I digress. Moving along, it was also really great to see the return of Roy! It was kind of disappointing to see that Roy returned last season and he wasn't here at the start, but he's finally back and was given some strong development with Diggle. I just really enjoyed their scenes together, they definitely have some good interactions, and more Roy is always a plus. Then getting Anatoly back too! Wow I'm so happy Anatoly came back for this episode, as he has been one of my favorite characters on the show. His camaraderie with Oliver is always a delight to watch, and I loved the send off they gave them. There's just a lot to love this episode. There were some very strong fight scenes, and more heartfelt moments. Many characters were given good development, like Mia, Oliver learning to open up about his past and the surprise redemption from Black Canary. I'm so glad they didn't make her betray Team Arrow again as it would've felt reduced at this point. Giving her that moment shows how much she's developed as a character, and it made for a great cliffhanger. If I really had to mention any critics other than Mia, I have to continue this criticism I have for the entire season so far. There's just a lot of things that have been left unexplained and some significant inconsistencies. This is really hurting the season as a whole, because while all the these moments have been very cool, they're undermined by the holes left in the plot. This is still one of my favorite episodes of Arrow though. Perhaps I'm being a bit biased since I love the Russian storyline so much, but once again I was just very happy with this episode. It just excites me to be looking forward to Arrow this way again.

The 80 pound walking attitude is ruining the season
larosaj-2666620 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The actress and even worse character is ruining the season. Cringe inducing fight with 4 guys was laughable. Getting shocked and still winning? Please kill her. Oliver is looking more like a hobo with that grungy beard. Decent ep but any entertainment is void with that horrific character. At least Roy was ok.

What is the monitor planning?

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was a really solid one. I love that in a way it was a tribute to season 5 and had a lot of memorable callbacks and the drama is engaging. The action also feels a lot more brutal in this episode considering they were fighting in fight clubs. I also love that Roy came back. I really miss Colton Haynes playing this character full time. It's also cool to see Anatoly again, like the old days of Arrow. And that ending, like WTF Lyla??!!?? Overall really good, can't wait for Paul Blackthorne back as Quentin next episode.

mary sues ruin shows
dambsk8029 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
With the show focused on marry sue's, no wonder it went downhill. Just as they got rid of 1,they brought a new 1 in. Same s** every time, marry sue's play all high & mighty/know it all's & when they scr** up always blame others. 1rst she got her friend killed with her idiotic plan, in this ep again didn't follow oliver's plan & got them in to trouble, & both times blamed him/others. & don't get me started on attacking her father constantly. What a b**. When you have a show called arrow, the focus is on him, not a marry sue, yet it went the other way around & that was it's downfall. Same scr** up happened with flash & legends. No wonder all went downhill & 2 got axed.

Fight Club Bonding
Anonnamus7 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I love a good fight club storyline to bring together a father and daughter. Warmed my heart. This episode is keeping with the theme of throwing back to the past this season and I loved it. Although a little slow at times, it kept my interest from start to finish.

  • Boy, Mia sure is strong, flipping 200 pound men upside down. I get that she's a fighter, but can we at least TRY to make it look plausible? She was only screechy tantrumy part of the show this time, not the entire time.

  • One last goodbye to my favorite recurring character, Anatoly. I will miss his wit and I throughly appreciated every minute he came across my screen. Thank you for bringing him back one more time.

  • Yes! Roy is back! Arsenal was always one of the better characters of Team Arrow and also one of the better fighters.

  • Best line of the entire show: "Isn't your family constantly injecting each other with tracking devices?" Come to think of it, Earth-2 Laurel always has some great snarky lines. I appreciate sarcasm and she's full of it. With her facial expressions to match.

  • Lyla seemingly betraying the team doesn't come as any shock, as she's shown numerous times in the past that the end result justifies any means necessary.

  • Did I mention I love Anatoly?

  • I'm not going to lie, I really wanted to see a shirtless Oliver. I was more than disappointed he kept his shirt on.

I have yet to watch a bad episode this season thus far. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this doesn't start out as promising as season 7 did, then descend into pure crap. I think any fan of the earlier seasons of Arrow probably like this final season as much as I do.
