Let's Hope the Series is starting off with a Slow Start. Warning: Spoilers
With series like the boys on Amazon Prime they've got a lot to I've up too! Quality over quantity is far more important then pushing out tons of garbage¡

Nice start.

Warning: Spoilers
For a pilot episode, it had ups and lows. Liked that they moved back and forth to the depresion for the back story. Liked the fight scenes (specially towards the end). Liked the "old" characters (specially Ben Daniels').

Didn't like the daughter's entitled attitude which could be ok for a teenager, but she is already in her twenties. Grow up girl! And.the idiotic Batman-esque no killing policy (don't kill the villain so that he/she may come back to kill multiple victims including probably members of the heroe's family). That doesn't apply when the villain is a weapon of mass destruction.

All in all, looking forward to watching episode 2. Hope it picks up the pace.

Haven't I Seen This Before?

Warning: Spoilers
Superhero expy with non-superhero hair on his head and a white suit to contrast the blood? Check.

Son with similar but weaker powers, who his father doesn't think much of? Check.

Mother who acts as peacemaker between her spouse and their children? Check.

Big blow out fight at the end, and at least three superheroes brutally killed? Check.

As is hinted at the end here, a big-bruiser super villain who is a genius has a clone? Check.

Granted, there are differences. And the above is mostly cosmetic. But as anybody in the cosmetics industry can tell you, cosmetics are important. Just ask Sharon Stone's character in 'Catwoman'.

Regardless, one figures that the production staff on 'Jupiter' Legacy' are cursing that 'Invincible' came out so recently. And that wouldn't be a problem if 'Jupiter's Legacy' had something new or novel to say about superheroes. But... it doesn't. There's world-building of a sorts, but no actual world. It's about the Sampsons, all the time. And they're just not that interesting.

We have 'Superman & Lois', and then the series of 'Invincible'. And Homelander on 'The Boys'. Now we get a fourth "Superman" with Utopian. Making him a Christian is not that big a change, and doesn't seem to be supported by the material so far. He was a player of sorts back in the 1920s, and now... he isn't. Presumably they'll reveal why he changed down the road. But that's down the road. What about the story now?

The main thing is that 'Jupiter's Legacy' doesn't seem to know what it wants to say. It's a deconstruction, great, a deconstruction of what? Superman deconstructions are pretty old-hat by now. They were edgy in 2013 when Jupiter's Legacy was first published,. But now? Shows like 'DC's Legends' and 'Powerless', and movies like 'Kick Ass', have already taken a chainsaw to superhero mythos.

That wouldn't be bad for 'Jupiter's Legacy, except it doesn't have anything new to add. At least in 'The Boys', the focus isn't entirely on Homelander. Here the Sampson family is front and center, so the episode entirely rests on the Superman pastiche. And... it isn't enough.

The acting is okay, but there's a big focus on setting up stuff in this episode and world-building, as well as the first-episode introduction of characters (like Barry) who won't play much of a part in the ongoing series anyway. Nobody gives a bad performance, and Ben Daniels as Walter is pretty good. The actors just given much to do.

And the flashbacks... ugh. They don't thematically do anything. The flashbacks just fill in the backstory on how Sheldon and Walter and the rest get their powers, and how Sheldon gets his old-fashioned "Code" attitude.

I think the comics were trying to deconstruct the ultra-violent 90s in the comics. Never mind that it was the comics trying to deconstruct themselves. The ultra-violent trend has come full circle, and now we have less gritty "teen comics". 'Jupiter's Legacy' seems less like a commentary than a relic.

But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. What do you think?

It was decent. I liked this plot, it started very, very, very slowly and kept pushing forward. I admire the way they're trying to show past blended with present time. However, the weakest point in this first episode was visuals and CGI. If you're trying to create Superhereos TV series but you're not going to keep same quality as Marvel or DC movies then I would rather pass. I hope next episodes going to be better and better.

I don't mind the cheese

Warning: Spoilers
This show feels like network TV trying to be edgy. My biggest gripe is the attitudes of the characters specifically the kids. This is just my opinion, but man these needy kids being so entitled. It's just a boring and lame scenario. 😴

This kind of writing almost ruined superman and Lois as well.

The rest is pretty fun, I'd like to keep watching.

Decent but also a bit cheesy.

Warning: Spoilers
I was quite liking it, then the big fight at the end got a bit cheesy and silly. The good guys are getting their asses kicked, one of them has already been killed and the bad guy is about to "go nuclear" and kill thousands. Then the big possible deal-breaker reveal, we find there are members of the team that can kill the bad guy and stop it all with a single punch at any time but (normally) don't because ohhh there's a code ohhh. Not sure i can get past that nonsense. I'll watch one more but it's got some explaining to do.

Show, not tell. And if you must tell, don't repeat it over and over
Tastentier9 May 2021
I just started watching the second episode, and I'm already hearing lines being repeated that were rehashed ad nauseam in the awful first episode. "He's not even close to being ready." For the fifth time at least. And it's just one of many sentiments that keep being regurgitated. You'll never live up to his legacy, you'll never be good enough, we live by a code, respect the code, that's not the code, you broke the code, blargh. No wonder the critics thought this one a stinker.

To be fair, the pilot episode picked up a little towards the end. That's why I'm giving it 4 stars even though it felt like a 2/10 for the first 30 minutes. Here's to hoping the show picks up the pace a little more and stops endlessly ruminating on the same shallow thoughts and simplistic moral problems. We've all read and heard them a thousand times before. I mean, this is not exactly unexplored territory. Everyone tries to copy Watchmen or Red Son these days. Even Millar tries to copy his own best work, and fails because he only shines when he gets to work with well-established characters. His own original characters are paper-thin with the personality of an unripe avocado.

Bottom line: In this golden age of TV, superhero shows have to do better. This feels more like 2015's "Powers" than The Boys, also in terms of acting and costume design (seriously, what's with these square angular muscle suits? Who thought the low-polygon look was a good idea?). Above all, you can't make this subject matter too dry and serious. It needs at least a little self-aware humor. Several recent shows have gotten the formula just right, from The Boys over WandaVision to Invincible. Maybe the producers ought to take note, even if it means deviating from the dry source material.

Wow

Warning: Spoilers
I wouldn't say that I had high expectations but boy I did not expect this at all, acting is terrible, all the cheesey lines you ever heard in a superhero genre is here, a guy almost killed everyone and the main superhero guy was pissed that his son stopped him?, it's also super slow, hopefully the rest if the episodes are better.

Power rangers superheroes kitsch...
fasilhayat8 May 2021
Compared to The Boys, Jupiter's Legacy seems way too cartoonish, unintelligent and clumpsy.

A Power Ranger-ish superhero kitsch TV series.

Why bother?

A joke
akaslammin14 May 2021
This is a spoof right, admittedly it's a bad one but it is so silly, so cliche and so corny it can only be intended as a joke. Clearly even the actors know it's a joke based on the their performances.
