Unlikeable
hazangel-8991024 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Olivia is the most unlikeable character ever!!! It's the typical action of a guilty person. She was not there for her children when they were young now she thinks she can proclaim her love by acting extremely unhinged!! Very annoying and unnecessary!! Her acting is atrocious as well!! Over acting galore!!

Perez has a lot of patience. He should have just locked her up from the beginning to keep her out of the way. Being raped is not an excuse for deplorable behaviour!!!

Also want to add I hope Duncan finds peace soon. He seems to have the worst luck in life (based on his horrible choices of course)

tension building up

You have to admire Zezi, she never gives up, she's one strong young woman. I do have a feeling who is behind it, but I may be blinded by the fact the last time the actor played an unassuming character he turned out to be the chief bad guy so I'm not saying anything more We are being led to believe it is Alice but I can't see that she looks after abused women and Perez didn't give anything significant away to her. It is sometimes someone who is on the periphery of the action who turns out to be the bad 'un.

*** Mind-boggling suspense ***

Shetland continues to be masterfully written and acted. Around its midpoint, this episode shatters all records for suspense.

BRILLIANT!

Great show - moving in the wrong direction

Warning: Spoilers
Shetland is a great series with compelling storylines and amazing characters. This season, unfortunately, is moving things to the melodramatic, unrealistic, and sometimes silly territory of Law and Order. The bridge too far for me occurred when Perez refused to charge Olivia after she KIDNAPPED A WOUNDED MAN, REPEATEDLY TORTURED HIM BY STRIKING AND GRABBING HIS STAB WOUNDS, AND THREATENED TO MURDER HIM REPEATEDLY. This was many days after the same woman broke into the same victim's home and assaulted him. DI Perez, who has always been a stickler for doing what the job requires of him, avoiding letting emotions or relationships get in the way of a job he feels is so important, gives a clearly suicidal woman a pass for what boils down to "she's has a very rough life" so it's ok for her to kidnap, torture and threaten murder. It's so totally out of character for the character who, every season, is either pulling one officer or another off the case to ensure emotions don't get in the way, or insisting that no one in his family or associated with his friends be given special treatment. DI Perez from previous seasons would have threatened her with interfering with his investigation and probably had her locked up by episode 2. It's is just so disappointing and is ridiculous, all in an attempt to gains some cheap "we care points". Shetland is better than this!

I was screaming at the TV
walther-468121 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is a mirror of the clown world we now all live in.

DI Perez who as a character had qualities I admire, lets a deranged criminal go free after she kidnaps and assaults a young man, assaults a young woman and steals her car ,continually attempts to obstruct police work and is a suspect in a double murder (but she says she didn't do it so he lets her go).

No DI in their right mind would have let this criminal go but in today's world reality is stranger than fiction. Since criminals are being released all over the western world so they can continue their hate against society why not reflect this insanity in our TV series?

This 5th season almost seems as though they swapped a great writing staff for a bunch of clowns.

Episode 5.5

DI Jimmy Perez thinks he has got a break in locating Zezi by making a significant arrest.

Meanwhile Olivia Lennox has become increasingly desperate to find her daughter by going rogue again.

Zezi meanwhile is all out of luck. However hard she tries to escape, she is doomed for failure.

The action moves back to Shetland this week. Perez is testing his friendships. There is a disturbing scene at the end but I really did think that the story is now being stretched. It could had been wrapped up as a four part serial.
