Galadriel's brother Finrod addresses her as "Galadriel" while she is still a child. In J.R.R. Tolkien's writings, Galadriel's husband Celeborn gave her that name as an adult. Her original names were "Artanis" (chosen by her father) and "Nerwen" or "Nerwendë" (chosen by her mother).
The opening words of the series, "Nothing is evil in the beginning", are spoken by Elrond in J.R.R. Tolkien's novel of "The Fellowship of the Ring", in which Elrond goes on to say, "Even Sauron was not so."
The origami swan boat young Galadriel makes in the first scene is similar to those used in Lothlórien under Galadriel's leadership in "The Lord of the Rings".
This episode is the first to show events from the novels' First Age, with the depiction of the War of Wrath where Elves and Men defeated the Dark Lord Morgoth together. The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings movies depicted events from the Second, Third and Fourth Age, but the First is rarely referred to and never shown.
