Overwhelmed!
mamad-rajabi10 January 2022
This review is based on two episodes I just noticed about this show from Jimmy Kimmel Live show. Nasim Pedrad is originally Iranian and so do I checked her parts in SNL. And they were great. So I assumed I am this show is for me. And you know I like to support hommies :D

I had no idea what type of show it is. Is it something like Malcom in the middle but with some immigrant parent flavor or something else?! Anyway, I said I had to watch it.

However, I cannot bear this show. The main character is very annoying, cringe and awkward in so many levels that I cannot continue watching it.

Being cringe and awkward is not inherently bad. "Dumb and dumber" and "Borat" are based on awkward and cringe comedy but the movies work. But Chad has nothing to attract! He's not funny. He's rude. He's behaving beyond any border. He does literally anything to make me mad! Is it intentional to make me dislike Chad for each aspect of a character?! The problem with Chad's character is that he is not dumb. If the show introduced him as a dumb character then I would at least somehow digest the struggle of this character! It could be even funny like Dumb and dumber movie. Being an immigrant kid also does not make you unlikable for each measure and aspects of the universe!

I prefer to watcha sitcom about the uncle, the mother and the mother's boyfriend.

I gave it 3 to support the diversity aspect of the series but honestly, I did not enjoy this TV show and the main character is so off that I cannot spend much more time watching this TV show.

Are You Kidding Me!

Who thought this was a good idea? What's the plan here? Did a room full of untalented artists, who have learned to do everything as a committee, get together and say, "what is the fastest way to make people's eyeballs bleed before the vomiting starts?" This is awful! Just awful!

An Awful Vision

This is the awful view from the demented mind of a 40 year old woman of what "disgusting" 14 year old boys think. It's not.

Brilliant comedy

Brilliant use of comedy to highlight struggles of a young teen from another country trying to fit it. I think it was a great idea and found myself LMAO. I'm amazed how talented Nasim Pedrad is -- I think she pulled it off, . It's a hilarious.

After reading all of the overwhelmingly negative reviews
tunkamerica-129 April 2021
I felt I had to watch this show because a vast majority seemed to focus on the actor playing the part of the main character (and smacked of identity politics and cancel culture). Many of the reviews said that they'd either not watched the show, watched only the promos, or only watched a few moments before they turned it off.

I just watched the full pilot episode and it was fine. There were some funny moments, Nasim Pedrad did a very good job portraying a teenaged boy. Could the writing have been more current and relatable to today's teens (who are so very different to teens of other decades)? Maybe?

Did the actor write the show? She did write the pilot. Is it less relatable than any Disney show? No.

Is it a waste of time? I don't think so. No more of a waste than any 30 minute sitcom. It's much better than TIm Allen's latest sitcom which has almost 200 episodes.
