Exclusive: MRC Film, through its Elizabeth Cantillon-led romance label, has optioned feature rights to the bestselling Nicholas Sparks novel The Return. The Notebook is being adapted into a musical with music and lyrics by Ingrid Michaelson.
The film will be produced by Cantillon, Sparks and Theresa Park.
“I’ve been a fan of Nick’s novels and jumped at the opportunity to acquire The Return,” Cantillon said. “Its depiction of an injured veteran in a modern love story is both insightful and sensitive, but most all hopeful. It’s a great story to tell any time, but especially right now.”

“The thing that we really tried to achieve was just to keep a very naturalistic look for the whole show,” original director of photography Jo Willems reveals in his exclusive interview with Gold Derby about the cinematography of “See” (watch the video above), which is set six centuries from now, when humans are blind and live primitively in tribes. “The tricky thing about the show that you have to understand is nobody can see, nobody has vision, so people don’t really need light to see, so as a cinematographer, that’s quite a tricky beginning, as people don’t need windows, people don’t need lights, candles.”
“It was really important to use the sun in a strategic way,” Willems notes as such for how he set out to achieve a look that was “quite lush — colorful, where nature has taken over again.” He adds about working on the Apple TV+ drama,...

Trish Summerville looked six centuries into the past for inspiration and research when designing the original costumes for the new drama “See,” which is set six centuries into the future. She explains in her exclusive interview with Gold Derby about the Apple TV+ series starring Jason Momoa and Alfre Woodard (watch the video above), “I took our time period now and went back 500 to 600 years to look at: How did we live then? What existed then? What forms and habits do we have from then till now that we’ve maintained? What are articles of clothing that we’ve kept? What are different crafts and trades that we’ve kept? So I just took that time frame and went back to what we would have had five hundred years ago and then just pushed that forward for us to make rhyme or reason out of it.”
