The whistle factory that Bean works in has many visual references to the classic science fiction film Metropolis.
Bean's number in the factory is 124C41 ('one to foresee for one') which is a reference to 'Ralph 124C41+', an early science fiction novel by Hugo Gernsback, after whom the Hugo Awards of named.
When Gunderson orders more beer in his office, it is delivered by a woman Bean thinks she recognises. The woman is Harriet, who was working with Skybert Gunderson and outlined the plan to assassinate Zog, in 'The Electric Princess'. She recognises Bean immediately and states to Skybert "The boss is gonna kill us!". It appears she was instead demoted to a serving person.
Richard Ayoade (Gordie) is the fourth cast member from 'The Mighty Boosh' to lend his voice to this series, following Matt Berry (Merkimer), Rich Fulcher (Turbish) and Noel Fielding (Stan).
In the cafeteria, just before Gordy Stewson introduces himself, we see a sign depicting a bowl of food that reads "Stew's On!" This is obviously an intentional joke on the part of the writers. You can also see Gordy glance up over Bean's head and, presumably, at the poster just before he introduces himself to her.
