The Matrix (1999)
9/10
The Matrix is truly a sci-fi great. For what it proposes to do for the public, it is one of the best films made in quite a long time.
The special effects are great, the acting is quite strong, specially from Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus, and the plot is entertaining.
The ending is the only thing that lets the film down, denying it a rating of 10/10.
Pariah (1998)
Not bad for a first...
Pariah is not a bad film. It has as its main good points a nice set of strong performances and an interesting plot. On the other hand, it is a very low budget, bad directed film with a very cheapish look and fell. Watch it at your own risk.
Star Trek: Insurrection (1998)
The Worst Star Trek Film Ever
I have been a Star Trek fan for quite a long time and I really enjoyed the Next Generation series, but I have to tell you this: Insurrection is the worst Star Trek film that I have ever seen. The plot is more than poor and the acting is a disaster. There are episodes from the series far better than this film - and I mean far, far better. The directing is not bad at all but it cannot, with all its excellency (in the battles), make this a good film. Frakes is not a miracle worker. Since Berman took over the Star Trek films production, the series quality has gone down quite dramatically: Generations is bad and Insurrection is worse. The exception is First Contact, which proved to be a very good film overall, with the cool Borg Queen and the better planned plotting + acting. It's time to replace the producer (Berman) so that some consistence can be obtained in the series.
The Game (1997)
Twists
In this film, you never know what is going to happen. Thrilling!
