Defeat is an "Orphan"
20 August 2022
This is a prequel to the 2009 movie Orphan where a 9-year-old girl is revealed as actually being a 33-year old serial killer, but in the new movie she's much younger, but still played by the same actress who is now 23 which is so painfully clear even when using de-aging CGI, everyone standing on boxes to make themselves look bigger and using child doubles for the wide shots and back shots.

Sadly, no stars out of five.

NBC 75th Anniversary Special (2002 TV Special)
Should be called "50 Years of NBC TV"
18 October 2002
Although this is called "NBC 75th Anniversary Special" they almost completely ignored the NBC Radio Network which really made NBC in the pre television era and existed until 1987.

Oh if you are wondering why the clips from old shows seemed to be mostly from the late 70s and the 80s - NBC junked most of their archive in a mis-guided clear-out in the early '70s - not that they would have shown much black and white stuff anyway!

Funny and Unique
6 April 2001
There will never be another "You Can't Do That on Television". Ever.

To many who grew up in the 1980s it was the best show on television and even today it stands up as one of the most inventive and well written kids show ever made.

It was also one of the few kids shows that had respect for its audience - YCDTOTV celebrated the distinct culture of children and not the adult view of what that culture should be like as so many "children's shows" do. A classic of its time never to be replicated!

The Secret Garden (1987 TV Movie)
Good but could have been better
20 March 1999
This 1987 version of the Secret Garden is a mixed bag: on the one hand the locations are beautiful, on the other the production values and acting ranges from great to just plain awful! The best performances are given by Derek Jacobi and Gennie James. Gennie comes off as a 1980s version of Margaret O`Brien taking to the role of Mary Lennox with O'Brien-like skill.

In conclusion: Good but could have been so much better

The Bad Seed (1956)
Classic Film
22 February 1999
I first saw this movie when I was about 8-10. It scared the living daylights out of me when I saw it then and has the same effect now.

I admire Patty McCormick's acting ability. She deserved the Oscar that she was denied. A true classic and will remain so for decades to come.

Forrest Gump (1994)
Will be classic in years to come
11 September 1998
Forrest Gump is one of the best films Tom Hanks has done. In this 1994 film his portrayal of Forrest recaptures the sprit of his classic performance in Big (1988). The rest of the cast is also top notch with Sally Field and Gary Sinse turning in performances that deserved Oscars. Mention must be made of the two actors who portray Young Forrest and Young Jenny who also put in a good performance (although Hanna R. Hall who plays Young Jenny will probably forever be associated with the line "Run Forrest Run!")

In conclusion, a film which given time to mature will be a classic.
